Okay, I've broken this down bit by bit.

That really only goes to art assets. If they keep all the scenes and intent the same there is some wiggle room. Xenoblade 2 was especially given some leeway because it was a massive improvement for Nintendo. As one of the faggots who probably followed GoG a bit more than most, I can at least explain a little bit about what might be going on here.
GoG ended up firing Sean in October for the whole incident, the article says they've been "rearranging teams" since then, implying drama and struggles erupted and emerged.
GoG also did something around their 10 year anniversary. They basically ruined Galaxy, turning into an obnoxious Windows-8 tier joke. Its absolute garbage, pretty much un-runnable on older computers, and taxing on new ones. It was in-your-face, ugly, loud where the old Galaxy was lightweight, modest and clean. Its basically screeching at you every second to buy shit, but it has the opposite effect as a result. You click on a game and all you can see is a screen-covering video thumbnail for the trailer, you can't even see reviews and score till you go to the bottom of the fucking page, which is fucking stupid when compared to the old GoG.
They've also been slowly removing shit like deprecated functionally like the GoG Downloader (or whatever its called, not their usual thing but a different alternate one)
And now recently they (supposedly) didn't allow Grimoire on their storefront for what appears to be political reasons, given that the game's content would be in a perfect style for the storefront. They cited it as "too niche" while the developer claims they did it because he was too spicy, and he says for 3 years he's received emails from GoG saying about how excited they were to receive it.
Now couple all this with an incensed community about Sean's disappearance, an increasingly censorious forum in the wake of their only good forum moderator (with the leftists doing their best to take over in the meantime), what's more, their lack of attracting any large japanese devs didn't help their case, and they got outdone by Steam in terms of them allowing more NSFW stuff so they lost the advantage they had with censorship (until Steam started deplatforming again).
In any case, its a fucking shit show and points to terrible management.
There's also Thronebreaker, which wasn't nearly as much of a success as they were hoping for with all their advertisements for it. No reports have really come out speaking to its success despite them plastering it all over Galaxy, even doing an in-client obnoxious ad for it iirc. People were pissed at what GoG was doing, and GoG's audience usually doesn't take shit like Steam's does, so they're fucking off and taking their games with them it seems like.
What's more, GoG's audience having higher standards for them fucks them over when shit like this happens so they're pretty much guaranteed to go into a death spiral unless some major shit changes. They're pretty much relying on GWENT and Witcher 3 to save them, along with the momentum that overall word of mouth and their credibility for being a refuge during the waifupocalypse granted them, but… that probably won't be enough.
