also continuing talking about military craft, it is unbalanced as fuck, mainly because there is an move where you jump on your polearm, making it so you have even more reach while dealing splash damage. but generally every weapon type gets neat things like this, and it is up to you if you want to abuse it. its not like anyone in the game uses polearms anyways.
other thing that is kinda wrong with it is as already mentioned hackers, heavy and blunt weapons have moves where you spin around dealing damage around yourself. this pretty much means one canibal scav can hit all of your guys at once
in short, its inbalanced as fuck but its FUN

Currently hunting beaks around Catun.. bought a small house in the city, set up 2 stoves and 3 leather tanners to process the hides and meat. Everything is quite good, only thing is that there is an Elder around somewhere and last time he jumped me he ate my entire group. Cannot figure out why, I've killed Elders before, it's not easy but full out wiped, maybe hes killed so many things hes skilled up. I had to reload
I'm keeping my crew at 30 this run, that being the normal squad limit and all default settings, hunger rate 1.0 isn't that bad once you get used to it.
Question though, with 30 guys how many should be doing crossbows, right now I've got 4 and I'm thinking it could be as many as ten. What should they have as backup weapons, npcs usually have blunts?

as many as you want. with crossbowmen l usually go for longsword, as they have naturally shittier melee stats and that +2 to defense actually does something. otherwise one handers are all equelly good/shit. get one you like. technically short cleaver should be the strongest but you wont be able to find a blueprint for it in catun, unlike for longsword

I usually have squads of 10 people, 2 being crossbowmen since in combat i select them and move around fucking people in the back to help my melee fighters to keep numerical superiority and take down the tougher ones or keep them busy, but only i micromanage this on harder fights.
Of course you can make cuhrayzee squads of 10 crossbowmen or even your whole faction of /K/rossbowmen full of commando tactics there´s a mod that add guns to the game, hell, there´s a AK 47 that´s basically a automatic toothpick

Don't know if anyone else uses Neko's Clothing Overhaul, but I just finished applying all of its changes to Mediocre Black Armor. Can upload it somewhere if there's an interest.
Mediocre Black Armor has versions of some stuff that coloured clothes doesn't and even the things that are included in both, MBA takes a different, edgier approach to making everything black.
I nerfed and buffed MBA items to match Neko's but I let them keep their stealth buffs, and in the cases where Neko's had more stealth, I added another 5% to the MBA item.

doge sucks in vanilla if you don't speed up the doge animation its better to be hit than to have it trigger and essentially stun you for the half second of time it takes up. BUT that being said most armor "balances itself" by coming along with hoards of debuffs that outweigh the benefits of wearing it on higher level characters. chain mail is not worth these debuffs and leather is easy enough to abandon for 2x limb health. repair kits can be difficult for early squads thew just in availability if you don't know where to look. biggest drawback is the dex learning speed modifier. as dex is a bitch and a half to grind already.

There's a mod called 'Moisture Farming' which adds a building which can be put both in the interior and exterior which could help with this.
You can also have a dedicated character to carry and grind wheat to let the farmers farm and the cooks cook.

I actually found something. So the body sliders use an .xml file as reference (Kenshi > data > editor) and these do not only have min and max values but some also have mid ones.
I've played around with them a bit and my theory is that if there's no 'mid' value, they go completely random but with one they'll randomize around it a bit more.
There's also some lines in the greenlander male xml file specifically that I don't see anywhere else which seems odd. Stuff like

Quick update, holy fuck I was right.
If you want to affect the random generation of NPC's (quick way to test it is to start new game or go to plastic surgeon and spam randomise) you simply need to add 'mid' values.
Now all female randomised models come out much more attractive.
Pic is my changes to the JRPG mod, I've added mid values to everything and I also increased the max values of some things like mouth angle for even happier waifus. Probably going to bump it up even further.

You simply replace the normalmaps which the JRPG mod adds with vanilla ones (but keep the name change of the JRPG mod intact) so that the nude mod can overwrite them.
The vanilla files would be the following, found in Kenshi > data > character > skins > human_female
>human_female_body_normal
>human_female_body_skinny
Find the JRPG files which have the words 'skinny' and 'normal', rename the vanilla once to match the JRPG mod, delete the JRPG mod versions and drop in the renamed vanilla ones.
If you want to take it one step further (sounds like you don't but I'll mention it anyway) you can actually make the JRPG mod completely overwrite the vanilla races instead of creating sub races, it's very easy actually.
Pic related is all the changes you need to do to a vanilla Greenlander to turn them into a weeb,after which you can delete the sub races JRPG mod adds.

Female mesh - is the JRPG unique mesh, needed for them to look good.

I'm afraid I need to disagree with you partner, Black Scratch is a super comfy city is has fucking everything AND THE great library, I lived there for a long time once, grinding out out iron and simple crafts earning the cats to buy patterns. Your potential house is at the gate, next to the iron mine. The shop sells 20 or so iron plates a day, it's a good city, BETTER than Catun. Go check it out, the four cities I've normally got a house in nowadays are in are Mongrel, Black Scratch, Catun and Hub. (locations are great)

Tried that out, I didn't really care for all the extra hoops to jump through to accomplish the same thing.
It had some good things about it, some bad, some pointless: 400 to 600 cats for selling slaves comes to mind, a venture that stops being worth your time very quickly.
Biggest problem with it is that it's too big of a mod and it's bound to clash with other mods based on how it does "a little bit of everything".
Recently went back to the smaller mods I'd deleted just to accommodate it. I imagine it comes down to preferences.
Already downloaded the cannibal/shrieking expansion so that's already clear.
Right now I'm mainly wondering if Lords Armory is functional enough to bother with/replacing its parent Euro weapons mod.

I´ve installed the "tame beasties" mod and now i don´t know what to do, i didn´t expected it.
Following the success from another anon i did the same and captured an elder beak nigger. Nigga it´s fucking broken and deals a lot of damage against every raid and it´s hunger rate of 5x doesn´t help too much. I don´t know if i should free it because it made the base too secure and it feels like cheating, but on the other hand looks like a trophy for spending an hour punching his face (I forgot to take a crossbow).
Also for some reason it screamed "Hell yeah!"

"nests" have a population in a region that they maintain by spawning in new ones once one has been "wiped out" there is a bit of a gap but any nest wiping turns into wack a mole, BUT you can drive animals away from your base by repeatedly wiping nests from your immediate area. this will also happen naturally as they die on your walls/gates/turrets.

Mining copper is essentially THE way to get starting cash. 2k cats per inventory load, there's a couple rocks right next to a bar north of the hub.
After you can beat dust bandits or crimson sabers or whatever that becomes a good choice, too.
Starving niggers barely pay for food costs.

**If you are in early game just pick a city gate and scavenge the corpses of the fuckers who decide to rush it. If it's too slow choose another location. Hive towns are great for this. There is a lot of ruin(ed) villages and outposts in holy nation and Shek and other places that have good shit, like chainmail and weapons on the ground as well as building supplies. There is a certain farm that has an uprotected shed with tons of loot/food, Later Looting labs often nets 100k from CPU and robots alone, labs and armouries go from totally unprotected to needing an hour to clear out so look around. Crafting weapons (weapon smith 1) with weapon grade 5 (early game tech) just need iron ore -> plates.. can make money forever (stuff like wakazukis sell for over 1k, even at shit tier) people always suggest to make grog/hash, sounds legit, When you get a tech like "plate armor" (tech level 2 or 3) you can just use the bench that produces the sheets, this raw product stacks and can be sold at a good profit. Copper alloy plates also sell well, but if someone is working the plate station that is armor smith skill, not just labor. Killing animals is my favorite, six to eight hide drops means 1500 cats and food if required.

Get T2 crossbows. The difference between them and T1 is ridiculous.
Get your walls up first around a stone area. Go in with enough food to survive for two weeks or so. Pump out construction material to slowly expand your walls.
Get a ninja. A good ninja will be able to KO an entire raid at night. They'll wake up one by one, and the peasants will hack them to pieces.
Have skeletons on isolated wall segments with crossbows.
Actually gain some combat skill first, and make sure you've got proper beds for fast healing. Remember that people who are sleeping use less food.
There are a fuckload of ways to deal with cascading raids, and even then it's rare for them to show up at the same time or in sequence. Most of the bandit raids will just steal your food and bug out. And you can always evacuate an outpost. Be fucking creative, it's a game that allows you to do pretty much anything - you just might need to, in order to survive.
And most importantly of all, git gud _______________________________

Crossbow AI is a bit retarded at times, but in this case you can actually select the "Hold" option (it's in the bar with Sneak, Jobs etc.) and they will stand still and only shoot at things in their line of sight.

I used to build there myself during the same 3/4 era but after 1.x that area became shit, literly every major faction claims it (parts of it), and it's fucking infested with bandits and ninjas. (not comfy). If you want a comfy base head over to Shem, there is no tax day and no holy day. You will still see raids and lots of beaks though. Personally I wouldn't build a base before killing the black ninja clan off in anywhere near borderlands/shem. I also highly recommend spending some time in a city building up your tech (try mongrel, black scratch, catun or even clownsteady). That is just how it is now. Still kinda shocked to hear your level 50s getting overworked though. Weird. (I was you a couple of threads back, tearing out my hair wondering why I would getting raped so much).

I may have got up to some hijinks in Admag, after a failed theft in the Traveller's store brought the wrath of every guard, Esata the Stone Golem and the Five Invincibles down on my expeditionary team as we tried to get the fuck out of dodge. Rane the Giant and another Shek each lost their right legs and a pack bull lost a front leg. We did manage to knock out Esata which I think is great considering the flavour text of Rane:

Not getting it to work.
So I put the normalmap of the pantyhose into gimp followed by the normalmap of the 'sexy chainmail'.
I hit export (and remembered to generate mipmap)
I did the same for the diffuse files.
In-game, it only shows the chainmail.

I don't understand this retarded modding system at all.
I thought files in a mod folder, such as textures or mechs were only references used by the mod, then the individual mod settings would determine if those actually end up in the game.
So if I have textures that could overwrite ones in the game, I'd have to open my mod and go change the vanilla armor item and replace them with the ones from my folder.
But it seems the mere presence of these files does this all on its own.
So I changed their name to something else that is not vanilla, thinking it might fix it.
Nope, the textures in my mod file with no settings affecting vanilla items still overwrites vanilla armor. But not only does it overwrite vanilla armor, it does so with new items I've created, although I've created them by making copies they have new textures and everything and should not be affected by things aimed at vanilla armor.

How do I do that? I'm guessing you don't mean right click > show references on the finished item. It only shows the research and crafting station I've tied to it. Even vanilla items only show those things, some vendor lists and which NPC's may have those items.

Where can I find an image or something showing what part of the body mech the different colours hide in the 'hide part' option of armor in the FCS?
Trying to find some way to 'fix' the Assassin's Rags body clipping issues, there are barely any body shapes you can use without hips clipping. I can play around with stomach, hips, chest and leg thickness sliders to get around it, but I can't do that and get an appealing body shape.
The other thing I'm thinking is that you could create a vest texture specifically for the Assassin's Rags where it turns the potentially protruding skin into the same colour as the clothing.
I'm also wondering how to turn down the gloss of vest items since they don't have a material on which you can turn down the specular multiplier.
I nigger rigged a pantyhose and underwear combo from a mod with the mediocre black 'slave' texture (loincloth/shirt) which got the colour more or less right at least.
In my hunt for /fa/, I think I like the Armoured rags the most out of these three, the first picture. The pantihose look a bit 'off' and are unflattering to the hips for some reason.

OP here, I got my old pc fixed, and so, new ID and luckily I found all my Kenshi games going back to version 93, including my squad of 28 with all 50+, phew. I've played a lot of squads since then but I've never actually surpassed that with 28 guys or even close.
So, I came to the conclusion today that the game only has 2 skeleton recruits. The "unique recruits with random names" one for 6k and one for 2500. I have never seen one for 3k, or just some random fucker who wants a job. I was thinking about this for awhile and I'm wondering if it's a balance issue, I've got 10 skeletons (5 nobody start = picked skeletons) +5 recruitables, but I feel like it's as strong as 20 guys in some ways and I don't have to feed them and they can heal fast enough to get back into a fight if they go down early. Correct me if I am wrong, but has anyone ever recruited more then 3 uniques plus the 2 recruits with unique dialogue in vanilla? I want to be wrong
As for my current run, I'm sick of Clownsteady, the fucking NPCS never respect the private setting on the house and I'm tired of running for iron and fabrics, time to move on.

Normally they will attack you on sight, but sometimes instead their squad leader will ask you "Give us food, or we´ll rip your nuts off"", something like that and you can talk to them. Then choose the "I can help you" option and you can pay them to fuck off 200, 500 or 1500. Each time i payed them 1500 it increased relations by 5 points. At 20 positive points they will always ask (But ignoring them will trigger an attack) with different dialogue lines like "I heard you help the poor, is that true?" and from here it´s easier to gain rep.
TL:DR: Savescuming until it triggers the conversation, then choose 1500 always.

Speaking of modding in buildings/towns, I've finally decided to work on adding a town to Shem, because why wouldn't one of the most pleasant biomes with access to water and plenty of resources and no presence of other factions have a proper settlement.
What faction to you guys think should be the inhabitants? I definitely want a neutral one, don't think I want to create a completely new one and instead keep it very vanilla friendly.
Top contenders would be Tech Hunters, Drifters or Nomads.
Tech Hunters already have one in The Lagoon, it doesn't make much sense for Nomads to have built a whole town and again, not sure if it makes much sense that random Drifters have organized to a point of building a town.
So I'm thinking that maybe making an off-shoot of a faction would fit best, something like 'Dune Drifters'?
What would you prefer to see in a mod such as this?

I recommend either editing your JRPG mod or making a patch for it that does the same thing.
Open the JRPG race as reference then apply the changes it does to the regular green/scorchlander except for the skin changes. If you set 'nm female strong' to human_female_normal_body_normal, your characters wont become buff by levelling certain skills.
Picture shows all the changes you need to do, add the head presets and remove the vanilla ones.
Then you delete the green/scorchlander jrpg subrace.
Now your weeb race is compatible with all nude mods (which is why you don't add the jrpg skins) and mods that change animations which only reference base game races by default.
You can also tinker with the editor limits and increase their maximum/minimum sliders (second picture), I especially recommend raising the max of 'mouth_angle' to maybe ~250 for better smiling capabilities.
If you add mid="###" after the max and min values you can make the game's random NPC creation centre more (but not entirely) around those values so that they're more likely to spawn with your preferences and not like abominations.

Go to 'Characters' and search for the name of the NPC's you wish to modify, in this case I'd guess 'Drifter'. Then add a shirt of sorts to their inventory

So, I think I fucked up allying with the Crabfolk.
I got a pack of 50 Skinbandits (with 50's stats) headed my way. Tried fighting them once, since I have two squads of mercs guarding the place and 6 turrets plus some half-decent 40's fighters.
End result: a lot of limbs flew around, half my guys died, rest were taken.
After reloading, I have 1 day and a half before they arrive.
I know that if I leave with everyone, they'll just go up to my frontgate and won't start the attack properly until I'm there. So I'm thinking that I can leave Beep inside, he'll "greet" them and then quickly escape through a secondary gate. This will allow the attack to start properly, most likely the 30.000 cats I invested into Merc's will be cut down and captured, but I managed to "survive".
What I don't know is if the Skin Bandits will be happy with just that: will they actually capture my outpost like other Bandits do, forcing me to recapture it? I've got 2 million cats, I can go around sending pacs of mercs back to wear them down slowly until I can pick them off, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.
For the record: yes, usually two packs of mercenaries are more than enough to beat back anything, but these poor guys have been here almost a month, most lost a limb already, some have no weapons (looted by enemies, or me thinking they were enemies) so just picture 20 guys limping around, swinging noodle arms as my current defense force.

Graphic settings to minimum, don't install max population mods (hardest hit on performance).
Also: always keep your group together, if you have them on two different places, your computer will either run out of memory trying to keep both locations open, or if you disable that in the options, you'll lose patience with the "LOADING" every time you switch.

The only impact on gameplay is that it might tend to take a minute or two to load diferent areas if you jump from one group to another (in this game, you can send half your guys one way, half another, leave some in your base while you go explore).
I used to lose patience with waiting, so I got a new CPU. It's not THAT bad, but it's noticeable. You'll mostly tend to play with smaller groups/squads or travel together. That's pretty much the only gameplay impact.
There's some Textures Compressed mod that some anon posted above, that helps immensely with the loading times.
Other than that, gameplay is unaffected. It plays like a mix of RTS with Baldur's Gate, so it's not like your reflexes are tested and what not.
Just be advised: it's a game that's pretty easy to break (gameplay-wise) but simultaneously pretty easy to break YOU (gameplay-wisely).
Until you go full Super-Sayan (and that might take a while), you'll contantly have moments where you feel like you're Fucker #1 of the Wasteland, kicking chins right out of their face only to have some 15 feet tall Shek clobber you with a giant sword next. It's great because you can return later and clobber him back. Which will cause a war with his faction. Which is even more fun.

Not looking forward to re-capture a fort on top of a hill with crossbows and 50 angry skeletons inside.
Also: if EVERYONE leaves, the raid doesn't actually start. I did that once for a Reaver raid. They get up to your gate (you can see the dots on the map). They stayed there for DAYS, until one my guys popped near. THEN it progressed the invasion to the "War Leader Shittalks you before attacking" phase.
I'm guessing I'll try that one. I already had a bunch of research, but my walls are so fucking shit, I'm thinking of removing all of them and rebuilding them up. Their positioning is kinda shit too.

I've been playing the Israelite strategy where I go to other cities, drop half a ton of drugs on some trader and use the money to send goy Mercenaries back to my base. I got that mod that let's you hire people for a month with 30k cats, and it's been working out pretty well.
I thought against it, early raids are important training after all, but I settled on the Southwest, and early raids there aren't training at all, they're death. Currently, I have a main squad with 10 buckos loaded with some really good Old World Crossbows and katanas hitting Dust Bandits for target practice. I might journey over to the Dust King and shoot him in his stupid face. Using crossbows has been a lot of fun, against weaklings, I just have a line of them fusillade enemies like it's court-marshaling day. Against bigger groups and tougher targets, I actually came up with a couple different strategies and formations to take them down. A Ranged unit is very different than a melee unit, I tell ya that.

It doesn't work like that. It doesn't scale per-se.
It goes something like this:
I have Blood Reavers near me. Then Iron Bandits a little ways off. Then the Crab people are quite far and finnally the Skin Bandits.
Now, the Reavers visit me every couple of days to have a friendly conversation with my fists. They send about 30 dudes with stats in the 40's. But 10 of those 30 are slaves that try to escape as soon as the battle starts, so the rest are easy to handle.
Iron bandits come once around, they beat me up or I beat them up, it's usually a fair-fight, but they leave without killing/kidnapping/murdering. I guess they just want to fight. Stats also average in 40's but there's actually 30 of them.
Crab Raiders came every now and then for the Crab Tournament. Their stats also average on 40 but the Crab's themselves were a bigger threat, hence, why I have turrets.
Skin bandits however never showed up because they were too far.
Basically: when you settle somewhere, the closest another faction is, the more frequently they'll raid you with some cut-off point where they won't raid you at all because they can't be arsed walking that much.
Now at some point, I grew tired of the Crab Tournaments, travelled to their town and talked to their chief. Made allies with them.
Crab people defending me, what's not to love?
But the moment I did that, relations with Reavers, Iron Bandits and Skin Bandits lowered to -75.
And that's when shit hit the fan.
The reavers are pissed enough to send 50 dudes with stats in the 60's, and they send them every other day. The Iron Bandits come once a week, but it's another 60's rape fest.
And the skin bandits decided they don't give a shit about how far I am, they WILL get here and kick my ass with over 80 guys with 60's stats.
I might have fucked myself with a mod that randomizes enemy squad sizes.
Basically: if you ever make a base, don't make enemies. Make walls. Make turrets, make weapons, make soldiers. Arm them, post them on the walls, post them at you gate.
Only then, make enemies.

If you have problem with raids you have 2, or three options:
<Train your squad HARDER.
<Train a character in stealth and assassination, an scorchlander for maximun efficiency and equipped with ninja pants, dark leather shirt, assassin rags, swamp ninja mask and wooden sandals, then send him to knock out the raid before they arrive and if you didn´t knocked out everyone probably the raid will reduced to 1/4, and their reinforcements will arrive in order 1 by 1 so tecnically you can defeat them easier. Yes, you have to micromanage the entire event like an autist, but this game is a comfy autism simulator so i see no problem.

the traders backpack despite the debuffs that it has is incomparable just because of the stacking and the bullshit amount of space that it gives. just stack in there every type of cash item that stacks from research material to pearl cups. nothing worse than ending up having to revisit a location only to see the world state change before you finish your looting. the large thief's backpack doesn't even compare other than it can fit the extra long weapons inside. so if you're mass producing pole arms to sell then yea large thief's backpack. also good for looting downed samurai of their nodachi.
extra long read go for the large thief's backpack or the thief's back pack for solo early game but you will want a few loot whores for larger squads with traders back packs, or you know a pack bull.

Thoughts on how my Shem Town mod is progressing? I still have a lot to do but I think it's taking shape nicely.

I found a bug in the Jrpg race mod that only loaded dark QTs as random hires, so I've changed that on my system atleast.
Here is my partially restore Hub, just added some basic shops, I think it's balanced, if you want weapons or armor you still have to travel, but now Hub is comfy for living and would make an obvious starting point.

Going to foremost build it to look good and stay somewhat true to how other towns are built so if a player takes it over they'd probably have to close of one gate and probably improve the defence of the other. It's mainly a mod to add some life to Shem but I want to have the takeover be an option in case that just so happens to be someone's favourite spot.
On the upside, there are both copper and iron resources alongside farms (and good stone potential I think) within the city. That's more for the realism aspect but will be nice if someone wants to make it their own outpost.

It does work. The new test mod I made adopted the changes made by another mod and seems to now be able to apply those changes to the game independently of the original mod.
It might work differently if the mod uses new assets not already in the vanilla game but for this I'm just copying and changing a bunch of furniture to also be placeable in the exterior.

What the game doesn't tell you is that slavery is actually a top secret training regime that puts you on the path of becoming a master ninja of the highest rank.

In essence, if you get your ass kicked but still manage to survive, that just means your character comes out stronger than he was before.
Otherwise stay near cities so you can run to the guards like a little bitch. Earn early money by mining copper (or iron) near the city and sell it. Get a recruit or two and buy a small house in town, get someone to start crafting. Bad money at low crafting skill but will quickly let you buy materials and sell finished products at a profit.
You could also steal stuff from town A, run to town B that is the closest and not allied with town A to sell your loot. Then steal their stuff and run back to town A. Rinse and repeat.
Though thievery is a bit OP and it's more fun to use it sparingly in my opinion.

Also "Random Enemies Squad Number's" is a nice mod, makes it so that squads like hungry bandits (etc.) can spawn with as little as 1-2 people, making it easier to find fair fights. What keeps it balanced is that they can also spawn with way more people than vanilla.
But the mod still keeps the same 'average'. A squad in vanilla that spawns with 9-10 units now spawns with 1-19, both being 9.5 on average.

You don't. You learn to take it and enjoy it. As you start, your focus should be on surviving and grinding your stats up. Get into a bunch of fights but make sure you come out of them in one piece, which shouldn't be too hard if you pick your encounters. Stay close to a city for now so that the guards pick up your slack. Getting beat up raises your toughness too, which allows you to take more hits and for stay alive longer. Find a way to make some money and buy some gear. Try to reach a state of sustainability. Also make sure to sprint all the time, if you want to live you need to be able to book it when faced with a threat you can't handle, and that's going to be a regular occurence. So from here on out leg day's every day, fucker. Go fast.
Also as >>16189645 says, stealth and most importantly, lockpicking are very useful to level. Pick all the locks you can, but make sure you aren't seen or you're in for a thrashing. For stealth just sneak around groups of enemies.

With high burden (preferably 70%+) you'll gain strength when running. With low (preferably 0%) you'll gain athletics when running.
If you hit "R" (cancel action button) while doing your job as a slave, the AI simply decides on a new task which depending on the RNG, is likely to be somewhere else. This means you'll do more running and raise your strength and/or athletics faster.
If you don't do that you'll get to learn either farming or labour depending on what slave camp you're in.

I've had both quicksaves and autosaces cause it. I'm not sure if it's related, but it happens whenever the save occurs while I'm doing something other than travelling with my selected character. It kept happening when I was training on a dummy for example.
It will be fine for a while, until it tries to save like normal, and it will save "save failed" then from then on both autosaves and manual saves will both not occur. Even if you hit the button nothing will happen. You can either exit the menu and keep playing in the game you can't save in or Ctrl shift esc and kill the program because the exit and load button in the esc menu won't do anything.

Carrying someone doubles you strength experience gain. So ideally be at 70% or more over your carrying capacity whilst carrying a corpse or squad mate.
Using a weapon that weighs 20kg more than your strength level (40kg weapon with 20strength for example) maximizes the strength gain experience per hit. That can be good to keep in mind if you're training other things too, but for pure strength training just running is probably the best.
Another thing I didn't know when I started was that there is an experience penalty (of 90% IIRC) to skills if fighting an enemy 25 or more lvls below you. A character's level is calculated solely by their Melee Defence (if wielding a weapon) or Martial Arts (if not) skill.
And I think even things like strength, dexterity and toughness become penalized in this way if you're 25 levels or higher.

Click on a few units of the squad and look at their stats. You can't see quality of their gear but it tends to be somewhat matched with their stats.

Those 'other dudes' are pretty nasty. Especially many of the factions that start out neutral (such as the slavers) have rather strong units and should be kept friendly until you have the ability to fuck them up.
How many recruits do you have, quality of gear and general level?
Also crossbow turrets are really good for base defence, if it's early game and you haven't set up a strong gate defence just putting some on your main building and have your workers fight outside it works good.

I usually use dustcoasts or ninja rags for this class of troop, BUT one thing I do know is that if it is in the game, it should be entirely possible to mod a crafting recipe to give rights to produce something in the game. Because people are modding item recipies into the game already, like colored armor.

I don't think it is a number per say. It's really the strength of your guys, back about 5 versions, npcs didn't target (scripted) to visitfuck up your base, but now they are.
Second it's not about number so much as location. Some locations need more strength to hold.
It's also a matter of, did you for example wipe out certain local gang bosses who if dead won't be raiding your ass all day long.

Yeah you're not really doing anything wrong if you get fucked up by the previously mentioned units at your power level. Maybe check out Mongrel, it has nice shops and the Fogmen roaming the area could pose as decent 'training partners'. Just don't let them carry away your unconscious units..

It's really not, once you get to ~40+ skill you can even make a profit from buying materials and selling the gear you craft.
You'll be able to craft clothing and leather items without ruin research and unlike weapons, their quality scale entirely based on the crafters skill so you can even create masterwork items at really low tech level.
But yeah to increase the maximum weapon quality you will need to dive some ruins. But the shops in Mongrel for example offer really nice gear of all types. They often have at least a few speciality grade items in stock and if you're lucky a mastergrade or two.

In the FCS you can set a number of variables or download mods that do it for you. I set squad and faction size to 256 and number of max attackers TO 3 from just 1. Using a mod that does the same thing or just opening FCS clicking global settings and applying these changes yourself will be advised.

Absolutely, play vanilla for a bit first. You need to form your own opinion on certain things and understand why some mods change the things they do so you can make an informed decision on whether to install it or not.
But my 'Must have tier' is something I can recommend even to people that haven't spent all that much time in the game yet, with the only exception of 'Attack Slots'.
Also the 'Highly Recommended tier' is mostly furniture and gear additions which don't change the balance or core of the game.

Yeah definitely adding a merc squad.
Will have to do a decent amount of tinkering to add HNO guards and police since they're not in vanilla but seems like it could be fun.
I'll also add a bunch of custom dialogue to them and some of the NPC's I deem more important like one of the inkeepers and such.
Took assets from the 'Functioning Market Stalls' mod and managed to add street vendors, really livens up the town. Not sure if I'll take something from an armour mod to make the HNO (especially the guards) look a bit more unique.

I made an outpost too close to one of those campires on the map (it's literally right outside the wall), I assume they spawn from there.
Every once in a while I'm getting attacked from 1 or 2 bandits from inside the wall, inside the outpost, and the gate is locked, I don't know where they are coming from.

I notice sometimes it bugs out when I load a game and a couple of bandits will get teleported inside my walls. I'm not sure if there's any real solution but if you have a slightly earlier save often it wlll fix it. Also yes mounted crossbows work from roof's. I'm not sure how LoS or anything like that works though all I know is that they can generally only fire in 180 degrees.

I need some input/advice.
Working on my Shem town mod and I really like the idea of giving the Holy Nation Outlaws an actual headquarter that they managed to put together with some help from the Swampers, in order to make them feel a bit more like an actual faction.
But how do I properly enable law enforcement and bounty hunting? From what I understand slave traders and the like act as 'cleaning crews' by buying NPC's the town police have captured.
However HNO are inherently anti-slavery and I don't want to change such a major faction setting.
Should I just have them throw fallen enemies out of town? I still want the player to be able to turn in captured bounties, but without getting bought by slavers the prison will just become full.
I'm starting to think it might be easier to have another faction be the owner, maybe Drifters for that true neutral.

For example if I let let them sell captives I'd need to enable some wandering slave traders, but if these spot an ex-slave from say, the holy nation, they'd try to capture them. If they do that within the town the guards would go after the slave traders since they're committing a crime against an NPC they don't consider hostile and it would make sense for them to defend escaped HN slaves from a lore perspective.
This in turn would put bounties on the town guards and any future slave traders that visit would attack the guards leading to further escalation.
So it seems like my two options are to either:
>Not have guards imprison enemies and have no place to turn in bounties
>Make it a different faction like the Traders Guild or Drifters
I guess it would be neat to give the Drifters a town of their own as well.

Actually both Drifters and Tech Hunters don't trade in slaves and are allied to the anti-slavery faction.
