im gonna go into spoilers here, you shouldn't read if you havent finished the game and are intending to.
at the end of the game, the 5 legendary knights, both the ones in your party and the ones used by the villain, are "taken away" lets say. but during the game (WKC2, not 1) your Silent protag gets a Prototype knight developed by the magic scientists guys. this knight, unlike the 5 legendary knights, is not connected to the rest, and as such it does not get taken away like the others at the end of the game.
that is why your silent protag has a purpose for being in the game
the villain survives at the end. you hurt him enough to send him into healing. he raises his ancient city from the ground using powerful magic. but since the knights are his, there's nobody left to fight against them. when he decides to start wrecking shit again, the world is fucked. However, since you, the silent sidekicks (and all the other silent sidekicks of the world) now have Prototype knights developed by magic scientists or whatever the fuck, you have a chance of finally defeating madara uchiha the super anime wizard for good. this is where the story mode ended and the online story mode began, where you were supposed to play with other silent protags and run the many stages of that wizards city against enemies you wouldn't stand a chance with your NPC party. with the final boss of the online mode being madara at full power with his completely restored evil white knight against your rag tag team of silent protags with protoknights
never before i had seen this type of game progression. where your character is just the sidekick who becomes protag after the story together with other silent protags. it was an interesting concept but it failed miserably because of mismanagement. people just weren't interested enough, the game was
-grindy as fuck
-PS3 exclusive
-a new IP that people were sketchy about
-not really advertised much. i dont even remember hearing about it until i went digging down the PS3's library
-poorly monetized, oriented around selling the better weapons and armor as DLC.
-most DLC didnt even leave japan. D3 publisher most likely made a cost-benefit analysis and deemed the rest of the additional content that the japanese version had unworthy of bringing over to the west
-servers weren't that good in terms of connection
-released the first half of the game as a stand alone title, and then the full game as wkc 2. making people buy two games instead of one if they wanted to see the actual end of it. the first game ending somewhere around 40% into the full story, on a cliffhanger.
there's a prequel on the PSP, white knight chronicles Origins that plays during the ancient war against the wizard, if you want some extra lore on this dead franchise, but yeah, thats about it. RIP WKC you didn't stand a chance.
if you guys have change, go give a listen to the OST. its definitely worth it. inb4 reddit spacing. i made a long post nigga leave me alone
