On the one hand, I'd generally recommend starting with the first game in one of the two series (Arland/Rorona, or Mysterious/Sophie). On the other, the first games in both series are by far the worst. Sophie has retardedly small maps that basically amount to exploring a single open field with a couple of wandering monsters, while Rorona is only slightly better and has an insanely basic alchemy system with no depth at all, though I honestly don't know if the series improves from there or not (mysterious does)

These games are stressful time management sims and you'll miss all the events unless you use a guide. At least that's my impression from playing Rorona. Cute girls or no cute girls, I wouldn't bother.

Mysterious games don't really give a fuck about time. Sophie has no time limits at all, Firis gives you a 1 year timer for the first half the game (which you will probably finish in 5 months), then unlimited. Lydie and Suelle I think only has a timer on one quest halfway through the game, they give you a month but you'll probably be done in a couple days
I'm not using a guide for Rorona so I don't know what I'm missing, but I doubt there are any miss-able town events that actually affect the story or gameplay except maybe in the last couple chapters.

Anyway i'm not even sure if i will play more than one game. So is kinda pointless talking to me in terms of "trilogies".
If what >>16107710 say is true then i should go for Firis or Lydie/Suelle (bonus point Suelle for being a gunner). And considering the design of the Arland saga kinda put me off especially Totori.

Firis is the best of Mysterious easily. The only major flaws are how recipes are unlocked (it can be really obtuse sometimes) and a general lack-of plot. I don't know anything about Totori or Mururu, I'm only halfway through Rorona.

Sophie is a good place to jump into the series if youre interested in the newer games. sophie is generally linear, it explains itself well, and its story is self contained but expanded over the next few games (firis & sue+lydie).

Any of the ones with a time limit; so for PC that's Arland. The Atelier games with time limits can also be split into long-form and short-form and you may like one and not the other. Personally I think the long-form games (Totori, Ayesha and a bunch of the older untranslated Japanese titles) are better than the short form (Rorona, Meruru and countless others) games which have you constantly running errands.
d90635 No.16115496
>>16115485
In my limited experience, the time limit games lack any real challenging content that would force you to really master the crafting portion of the game. You generally win based on monster grinding alone, which seems odd since you would think the time limit would limit grinding, but it really limits crafting more especially if you spend your field time efficiently. The unlimited games have more post-game content that requires well-crafted equipment and items.

I've never heard this opinion before. The games without time-limits are considerably easier and most don't even have a post-game. I think you're talking out of your ass.

I haven't played many of the limited ones yet, so that's where "my limited experience" comes from. The Mysterous series however all three games have post-game shit that require good item builds.
ebbeee No.16115760
>>16115496
What are you talking about? Time management is part of the challenge of the time limit games. The games that lack time limits are stupid easy and they're the most lacking in content. Sophie was broken from not limiting you, sometimes I would get stuck because events required to open new areas and move the story along would "build up" and I would have to go in and out of several areas over and over again to catch them up. Firis was so bad I didn't even realize I was already doing "post game" because the game itself was arguably pointless.

Yes rorona plus, play the arland plus trilogy on vita if you can, it's almost like these games were tailor made for it.
If you don't have a vita there's also the arland DX rerelease for PC, it contains the three games and all their DLC in a single package, no extra content over the vita versions though, iirc it also got a switch port in case you have one of those.

If we're talking the NA versions, NISA localizations for all of them except Ayesha. And with Ayesha Kekmo apparently thought they didn't need dual audio at first, so it only has a dub (the Vita re-release has dual audio though).
