No. I tried to get into it when Stormblood came out, but you can't get into over half of the raids or dungeons unless you queue with a full party. I've never queued for so long for story content as a tank in my life. I quit during Heavensward content because the side content was physically impossible to play because of it. When I did get into things, it was "follow the speed runner" because people get rewards for random queuing, so half of your party has played that instance hundreds of times and is only there for the completion reward. If you have a friend or three to play with, it'd probably be worthwhile, since the game itself was actually one of the best MMO experiences I've had when in the actual world. Otherwise, prepare to queue for silly amounts of time in order to continue the main quest while you spam channels asking for people to queue for said instance with you. I'd hate to see how long DPS have to queue.

There are a few ways to catch up: The main story will take you pretty far pretty quick but up until about Leviathan or Ramuh it's mediocre and full of bullshit like Tataru goes mining or dude thinks chocobos stink go get him a scented bandana to tie around his face. You'll need to slog through this anyways unless you want to be a good goy and buy the story skip potion but then you miss out on the exp and a fantasia to turn you into a bunny in Shadowbringers. The story line from level 1 to 50 is very safe, tame and generic final fantasy/jrpg story. After you beat dungeon called The Praetorium, the story starts to take more risks by throwing in some mildly interesting plot twists and political intrigue. Also the game's tutorial ends at level 50 once you have access to all the important core aspects of your job's kit.

I would say that HW was really the last good expac. SB started off ok, but it then it took a turn for the lame pretty early on. HW just gave up with the Sultana quest line, which sucked. Ilberd felt like he got tossed away as well rather than giving him necessary closure. I think the soundtrack, atmosphere and location are really what sold HW. SB got split between two locations and it felt like we were being ping ponged between them. As soon as Zenos murders everyone at Rhalgr's Reach, we just fuck off back East. Both wars lacked any impact in comparison to the clash with the Archbishop, but that's also because Hien wasn't built up as well as Aymeric. We go on a journey with Aymeric from the beginning. He has to stay and maintain peace at home while we go with Estinien and Alphinaud. The whole thing just feels like a real journey with both real ups and downs. Characters die and don't just get washed away to return again (except for Nanamo). The intro to HW is easily the best they've yet to do.

The burn is where Azys La came from, there is a installation they restore that makes a 5000 yalm high barrier stopping the empire from breaking into the east again, alphinaux is travelling the empire with Gaius Van Baelsar who is hunting down and killing Acians and name drops 'the 3 primari ascians' which are Elidibus, Lahabrea and some other guy who the scions comment on never hearing of. Meanwhile the old emperor didn't die, he is an asican, garlemalde was founded by ascians to generate war and he has a thousand young clone bodies. Meanwhile all the scions start dropping basically dead as some dark echo rips their soul out and screams 'a calamity of unrivaled proportions is coming, throw wide the gate' and right now only you and Krile are left. The current patch ends with the alliances of east and west going to war as the new emperor tells the leaders the truth of garlemalde but also that there used to be one world with one race called 'mankind'/'humanity' that was split into many weaker races as the world was split into 13 shards. His plan is to restore the literal master race that the ascians cannot combat against.The leaders call him a fucking psycho and war begins, in a WW1 style trench warfare battle you fight his meltigemini judges but at the end Allisae is taken by the dark echo and you retreat as the only scion left on the battlefield still truly alive. All you know is 'the final calamity' is coming and some voice keeps telling you 'throw wide the gates'.

ARR story suuuuuuucks, Then the 7th Astral era shit that follows really really suuuuuuuuuuucks until half way through where it improves rapidly right up until the end which is fucking great. Heavensward is pretty engaging and fun but felt really short and the final boss fight is anti-climactic as fuck because by then you have a pretty good idea what the mechanics are and everyone is just going to melt the bosses. The Dragonsong that comes after is pretty damned great and that is where I am right now.

If you want to play and you are not a batshit crazy or tranny or political sperg and you are on Exodus post your character and I will try to get a hold of you.

Voice acting doesn't even get good until Stormblood, but that alone really elevates it just because it makes some of the cute supporting roles more likable, like Nanamo. They also finally get bold enough actually start killing important characters, not like in Heavensward either (where they would introduce characters just to have them die, basically raising stakes without actually putting main characters at risk). Stormblood also is pretty clever in the way that it kind of lets your actions in the quests permanently affect the main map (soldiers are replaced with bandits after clearing out an outpost, or more cleverly having bases that get destroyed in the story that you can't see or access until after that point in the story). It really sells you on the idea that you're leading a rebellion to reclaim a territory.

Because you don't bring a paladin for dps, and paladin has much better defensive options than DRK. Warrior on the other hand does much higher dps to the point where it's basically the only OT you want for a vast majority of the content.

The issue is DRK is trying to be a middleground, but the game isn't built to support a middle ground, because all content has to support all the class combos. So you end up with DRK being the best at nothing and has absolutely no niche to fill so it's just useless to bring along. Everything else is pretty much a wash compared to other tanks. You don't have any knockback mitigation but tanks in general don't have much beyond "hold your gap closer and press it at the right moment". Your DPS is pretty much in line with the other tanks, so long as you don't waste any MP. The hardest part is coming to terms with The Blackest Night being an ability you need to keep on near-CD in order to work at your best potential.

It's a gimmick job, yes. Since it's capped to 50 and can't do any group content without a premade party, you're limited in what you can do with it unless you have a group of friends/strangers to play with.

You can do stuff like make an All BLU party to run Coils or ARR Raids synced, if you want. BLU has some meaningful stuff to contribute under those conditions, like a 10 second magic vulnerability debuff, an instant cast silence with no cooldown, and a healing spell that's complete overkill 60% of the time.

Unsynced, BLUs are dead weight to an overpowered party and are really only there to snag 130 BIS gear from Final Coils or to learn spells that have a <1% drop rate from Hard/Extreme Primals/Trials.

Finally, there's the Masked Carnivale or whatever, which is a solo instanced thing for BLUs only. It's like 20 or 30 or so puzzle fights where you need to figure out a working spell combination to win. I wouldn't be surprised if at least half the fights were easy enough to just Water Cannon your way through, though. I wouldn't know, since I quit BLU altogether after learning Ifrit's spell. The grind wasn't worth it to me.

BLU is basically like an early access thing now. Its not going to be capped at 50 forever and we currently only get 40+ spells when they said the list in shadowbringers tops 120.

Right now its just a fun diversion. You have just under 50 spells to learn and a chance to revisit the ARR zones while the carnival is basically a slight variation on WoW's brawlers guild. Each fight is a puzzle and if you get the right combo of moves you can end it in seconds.

Its not for everyone but i had fun doing that while my friends suffered in eureka chasing a relic that at best is going to be as good as my Omega weapon i got a couple of months ago.

The best way to describe DRK right now is "clunky." It was nice in HW, but the addition of DA on Syphon Strike makes a lot of the oGCD juggling a lot more stunted in feeling. Regardless of their reasons for wanting to make DA usable with SS, I just find it gets in the way the majority of the time.

Sadly, many people believe these idiots, even though simple math stats that the more often you use the higher potency move, the better your DPS will be. Given that DA is mostly a 140 potency gain, and a popped TBN amounts to at least 400 potency for the same mana cost, it's easy to see that as DRK's highest potency move, the more you use it the better your damage will be. But there is still a very vocal contingent who insist that TBN is a DPS loss and should only be used to soak tank busters, and they spout their trash often and loudly.

Not too bad. First boss puts a weakness on 3 sides of your character and nukes the room from one direction. You have to face your one non-weak side that direction. He also repairs robots that nuke the room in a certain way so you just have to look at what is being repaired and find a safe zone. It's one of those things where if you don't know you can follow the group at this point.

Second boss generates aoes that give you a duty action when you walk into them. Shield is channeled and must be used facing her.

Third boss is arguably the hardest and the first time I fought him on release week it went to a vote abandon. He's basically Ozma 2.0 and nothing he does is really that complex, it's just watching out for them. If there was any boss to watch a video on it should be this one.

Last boss is a clusterfuck and there may be some important things to know if you're not playing as DPS, but on the whole it isn't that hard.

I'll say, it is more "balanced" so to speak. From the first to last bosses there is a sequential increase in difficulty. Mechanics-wise, each boss has their own unique mechanics which help to make them feel unique. Nothing too crazy but I liked them. Last boss in particular can get quite chaotic, as it uses mechanics of the bosses of the other two raids at the same time. Hope you like dodging pillars, water hurricanes and timed explosions all at the same time I think there isn't any spike of difficulty like Construct 7 but the 4th boss can get quite tricky because it just throws tons of AOE attacks, old and new mechanics all at the same time. It is also a very impressive fight. I died quite a lot my first try, then again, I'm not very good so maybe I'm not the best to judge the difficulty. It really punishes people failures, so if someone screws there is usually raid-wide damage.

Sorry, posted that just before going to bed. There's only one optional challenge (the achievement "Something Borrowed") that requires a primal spell, and then even then that one only requires Garuda's. (The boss is immune to knockback so using Typhon's Snort won't count as hitting him with a wind spell and those two are the only two spells). To get the achievement you need to hit the boss with every element, all three physical damage types, do it sanic fast, and do it all without the boss dealing damage to you. All it rewards is the title "Perfect Blue."

There's a bit more to it in actual fights. The real power of TBN is to allow you to end every phase, every boss jump, with Souleater as your last used combo move. Ending it on the other two combo moves is a big DPS loss compared to that. But that's only for personal damage. TBN's raid advantage is that it soaks up tons of boss autos, which means the healers can spend more of THEIR GCDs casting damage spells. People who don't press TBN are making their healers' lives worse for no reason other than "I don't like pressing it waaaaaaaaaah"

You can always become a crafter/gatherer. The crafting/gathering skills are fully fleshed out classes. The only thing about that, is you have to level at least one combat class to.progress through the main story to unlock all the zones and such. Raiding is not the real end game. The real endgame is to become a massive jew and buy up actual property to deck out as you see fit. Or just buy up an entire ward like someone did on gilgamesh and do nothing with the houses. Houses are finite, so a lot of people get pissed. The g as me is pretty laid back though. there are some mad lads I see running around who have level 50-60 on ALL classes, but not a single capped job. As for the multiple character slots, I have no idea. The only thing I can think of, is to have more free retainers.
