Ah, struck a nerve, have we Mr. (1)? Yes, I'm sure the Jews had no interest in the 'new route to India' nor the actual continent of gelt in waiting, and it was 'only' one massacre of silly aboriginal cannibals. Just the one, and the following terrorization and massacre of the entirety of the Hispaniola Arawak- both under Columbus' governorship and after- never happened. There's nothing suspicious about the mass exodus of filthy inhuman Converso and Merrano shits to the lands of the so-called Viracochas, with there being mutterings of a few still living and hopelessly out of place blonde princes with starry eyes ruling over the tawny masses, nevermind all the leftover statuary that attests to them. These dirty, rapacious creatures coming first under Columbus, and then more of them following under Hernan Cortez, are not of note.
And, I'm sure, none of Cortes exiled Jewish basically-pirates worming their way into the area under the Spanish flag, who went on to shatter more or less every civilization on two continents and erase or obscure every remnant of their history they could including physically demolishing and building over Tenochtitlan- that misguided charnel house of a city even so razed over time to nothing, rendered an urbanized sinkhole- had any illicit contact with members of the previous converso-riddled expeditions. Right? No chance for such an insular, conspiratorial community with thumbs in every merchantile pie to have been dealing under the table, planning and acting outside the prying eyes of well-recorded history. With evil intent.
I'm sure it's just a coincidence that the Jews were there from the start, and were flagrantly in pursuit of shekels and the destruction of heathen gentiles, using a veneer of civilizing Christendom and an Empire they yearned to destroy to justify their every depravity. The blood for gold, the facial mutilation, the occasional dismemberment and parading of corpses. And thereafter, the appearance of Jewish literal pirates with vengeful anti-Spanish sentiments acting on personal greed and to ingratiate themselves to what would be their next host in a century and a half in England, with the rather famous Francis Drakes' own son Henry Drake personally allying with the rabbis of the sea. That's a coincidence, too. Your next lines would've been 'that's just speculation,' 'DA JOOZ,' and 'gb2/pol.' You will now engage in a slightly different form of screeching.

Right?
This is incorrect on multiple levels
The Aztec didn't think the conquistadors were gods. The classic ppop culture understanding of this, that Montezuma II thought Cortes was Quetzalcoatl and such, only shows up in accounts decades after the events happened, and is notably absent in Cortes's own accounts of the specific incidents. It's likely a mix of mistranslations as well as propoganda by the Spanish, the first pic related goes into it in more detail then I could.
In general, though, most of the stuff about Aztec gods being white and such or there being monothesistic sects of Mesoamerican religions, making quetzalcoatl out to be akin to jesus/christ, or satan-like entities that tricked them into preforming human sacrifice is stuff either Spanish firars introduced and mixed into native religious practices to make conversion easier, or was stuff invented by the desecndetns of native royalty who were writing about their ancestors to glorify them and to whitewash their religious belif in accordance to a catholicist mindset to make them look better to the Spanish. The second image is a good example of this: You can see a clear insertion of jeudo-christian themes into the account here: Quetzalcoatl as jesus (also tying into the Cortes is quetzalcoatl thing), Yaotl as satan, etc.
The only reliable example we have of any Mesoamericans calling the Spanish gods was when Cortes was in the city of Cempoala and he ordered them to jail two Aztec tax/tribute agents, which would be seen as an act of war. Cortes's insistence they do this resulted in them calling him and them "Teules", which Cortes in his account translates as "gods"… the problem with this is that "Teules" isn't a word in Nahautl, the aztec language, or the language that was spoken by the ethnically Totonac inahbaitants of Cempoala. "Teotl" can be translated as god in Nahuatl, but it can also just meen otherworldly, eerie, supernatural, or awe-inspiring,. and, again, the Cempoalans wouldn't have been speaking Nahuatl, so whatever the original Totonac term here had to go through multiple levels of translation (From Totonac to Nahuatl, translated by malinche into chontal maya, translated by Aguilar into Spanish) and the terms it originated from or got translated to had multiple other potential meanings that could have been applicable.
In any case, Cortes states that he and his men started calling themselves "Teules" from this point on to scare the people they came across, but as seen in the first image, there's not much evidence this works, with Montezuma in particular outright calling both he and Cortes human.

Moving on from the "They thought the Spanish were gods thing", and onto "The Aztec were raiding their neighboring political states and conquered cities for captuives to sacrifice/the Aztec wouldn't use their own people/this is why the Spanish got allies"
Firstly, we need to take a pause and explain what "Aztec" even is: The "Aztec Empire" was a political alliance of 3 city-states: Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, and Tlacopan, who joined forced in 1428 to overthrow the city-states of Azcapotzalco after a successon crisis that resulted in a huge geopoltiical clusterfuck inside the valley they were all located in (all 4 of those cities, and most of the other 30 or so in the valley, all belonged to various subgroups of the Nahua culture). This triple alliance subsequently agreed to collectively wage war and to get tribute from their conquered subjects of their military expansions and conquests; though not each had equal influence (Tenochtitlan was essentially a de-facto captial, though recent research suggests that it may have been a true formal captial and the alliance as we know it was overstated by Texcocoan and Tlacopanian sources); and each specific ruling city still had some provinces that they exclusively got tribute from; since they had it from before the alliance, and many of their conquered tirbutary cities has their OWN smaller tributary cities and towns that oweed them tribute, etc.
In other words, the Aztec empire is best understood less as a large imperial nation and more as a network of tributary-vassal states, the ruling triple alliance did not directly govern their conquered or subservient cities, essentially only "asking" that they pay annual tribute, help on military campaigns and for public construction projects, and in return they would be under the triple alliance's protection. They were essentially a racket. Most Mesoamerican empires follow this or some other sort of indirect rule model; directly governed imperial ones were pretty rare.
So, with that said, EVERY Mesoamerican culture practiced human sacrifice. The triple alliance and even the Nahua culture as a whole were not unique in this; it was universal in mesoamerican culture and religion regardless of which culture/civilization you look at, from the Nahua to the Maya, Mixtec, Zapotec, Purepecha, Totonac, Huastecs, Otomi, etc. What WAS unique was the Mexica (the specific nahua sub-group in Tenochtitlan (and it's splinter city of Tlatelolco that was conquered and reabsorbed) had a specific dogma that placed a higher emphasis on the human sacrifice of enemy soldiers then other groups, Nahua or otherwise. In general, across most mesoamerican cultures (especially the Nahua) a large deal of victims of human sacrifice were enemy soldiers to begin with; but in the 1430's, shortly after the formation of the triple alliance, the Mexica's religon was re-written by a dude named Tlacaelel to litterally require the mass sacrifice of enemy soldiers for the cosmos to be sustained; thereby providing the Mexica with a justification for military expansion, since to have captive enemy soldiers to sacrifice you need to be at war.
Notice that this dogma required enemy SOLDIERS to be victims: Raiding the civilian populations of cities wouldn't fulfill this; and in general, there is some evidence that the Mexica and the Aztec triple alliance in general avoided harming cvillians or damaging infrastructure specifically because they wanted to ensure that their conquered cities still had the logistical capacity to collect and produce tribute, which was their real primary motivation in expansion to begin with. That's not to say that ONLY enemy soldiers were sacrificed: Sometimes civilians were, including domestic ones, sometimes foreign slaves or civilian captives that were taken due to a city refusing to pay tribute or from other circumstances, but the idea that the Mexica intentionally targeted civilian populations for captives is wrong; when it did happen, it was incidental.
So, in summary, all Mesoamerican groups were sacrificing people; it was not something that was viewed with disgust by any culture in the region. Enemy soldiers captured in battle were often victims of this; often enemy soldiers. The Mexica/Aztec of the capital were not unique in this regard; only in that they viewed the capture and sacrifice of enemy combatants as particularly important and did so at larger scales, likely low hundereds to 1-2 thousand people (total, not just soldiers) annually, vs other cities's single digits to high ten's annually.

So, if the Mexica and Aztec triple alliance as a whole weren't the only ones sacrificing people or raiding other cities and towns for captives, why were they so hated/why did so many other cities join the Spanish in the siege on Tenochtitilan/the Mexica?
There's two answers to this. The first is simply that the Aztec Empire a militaristic expansionist state and warmongers tend to be disliked. The second is that most of the groups who allied with the Spanish likely did so primarily out of geopolitical opportunism rather then reverences with the Mexica.
Recall what I said before about how the Aztec empire, and most Mesoamerican empires in general, are best described as tributary and vassal networks; and that the Triple Alliance didn't directly govern it's subservient cities. As such, political marriages, the threat of military action, prestiege, ancestry to prior respected civilizations, and other diplomatic and political elements was how geopolitical influence and power was mantained: But these are also fragile: If you display weaknesses or unstrustworthyness, then you lose respect and standing and many of your subserivent cities or allies might rebuke you: This indirect system was less logistically burdensome then direct governance (and when there are no horses or beasts of burden, that's a big deal), but it's more vulnerable to fracturing due to political instability: It was almost tradition for new Aztec emperors (IE, kings of Tenochtitlan) to need to re-conquer border provinces who rebelled to see what they can get away with/to test the new ruler after the prior one had died. On one occasion, the new emperor, Tizoc, did such a shit job-recapturing these cities that the whole empire almost fractured as a result of his incomptency and the loss in prestige, and he got assassinated by his own nobility as a result, and even the NEXT aztec emperor got blown off by other non-aztec affliated political states despite doing fine in his cornation campaigns just due to how bad tizoc fucked up their image:
>The sovereign of Tlaxcala answered that he was unwilling to attend the feasts in Tenochtitlan and that he could make a festival in his city whenever he liked. The ruler of Tliliuhquitepec gave the same answer. The king of Huexotzinco promised to go but never appeared. The ruler of Cholula sent some of his lords and asked to be excused since he was busy and could not attend. The lord of Metztitlan angrily expelled the Aztec messengers and warned them to take care, for the people of his province might kill them if they recognized them.
Of the main cities that aided (really, did most of the work, the Conquistadors composed less then 1% of the army involved in the siege and they continued to rely on native armies and logistics for the following decades of conquests that nobody ever talks about where the formerly Aztec cities that didn't cede to spanish authority once the captial fell; as well as the other non-aztec city-states and empires in the region were being fought against) the Spanish during the siege; those being Tlaxcala (which was really a confederate republic of 4 main city-states, complete with a senate), Huextozinco, Texcoco, Xochimilco, Itzapalapa, Mixquic, and Chalco; only Tlaxcala allied with Cortes prior to the smallpox outbreak stirking Tenochtitlan and the death of Montezuma II (Cempoala allied with them before then too but did not particpate in the siege). Tlaxcala in particular had been victims of aztec invasions and blockades for decades, and things called "Flower Wars", which I guess might be what you were thinking of when you said "raid cities for sacrifices", as flower wars were ritualized, pre-arranged battles focused on gathering sacrifices, but these would still be soldiers, not civillians, and these are best understood as also acting as sieges, since traditional Old World style sieges were unfeasible due to the lack of beasts of burden
3/4 turns out I still need 1 more

>, since traditional Old World style sieges were unfeasible due to the lack of beasts of burden
To clarify, oxen and mules can graze, human porters require carrying further supplies, limiting their ability to hold out in the field, and the greater reliance on crops due to the lack of large domesticated mammals to consume combine with the region's highly seaosnal climate meant that warfare normally could only be waged in the winter, so men could be back at the farms in summer; but flower wars were smaller scale and could be held year round, being able yo apply constant pressure on states that invariably had far less men to spare for them. Anyways, Tlaxcala was on it's last legs at this point, so after they initially beat Cortes, they spared him to use against Tenochtitlan.
In general, you see Mesoamerican states using the presence of conquistadors to their apparent geopolitical advantage quite often: Cempoala tricked cortes into helping them take out a rival city by claiming an Aztec fort was located there; and there's a theory the Massacre of Cholula was instiated by the Tlaxcallans by feeding Cortes false info, in order to take revenge on Cholula from switching sides from being Pro-Tlaxcala to Pro-Aztec when they were an important buffer city between the Valley of Mexico and Tlaxcala. In general these cities did not even view thenmselves as submitting to Spanish imperalism, they viewed the Spanish through their own city-state/indirect rule based framework, sending high ranking conquistadors women to act as political marriages to cement the same sort of political relationships that tributary captials had with their core cities; which is also why the far larger Mesoamerican armies did not turn on the far smaller conquistadors they were aiding as soon as Tenochtitlan was taken: They didn't foresee the imperial approach the Spanish would take.
On that note of Cholula, Huextozinco was also such a buffer city, and was often fought over by the two, so it also had a geopolitical incenctive to strike against Tenochtitlan. Texcoco was the second most important city in the empire; but it recently had a successon dispute where Tenochtiilan favored a particular heir, so the other heir was bitter, and worked with Cortes. The rest of the cities had ZERO greviences against Tenochtitlan, and were a part of the core of the empire in the valley, so it's not like they had been recently conquered and were assmad about it, and in fact greatly benefited from the tribute influx into the valley from foreign provinces: They likely joined purely because Tenochtitlan was vulnerable due to the smallpox outbreak and the death of it's leader; and even Texcoco and Huextozinco only joined after that happened as well.
4/4, hope you learned something. Also here are some maps to illuistrate the geography of this.
I wish the last one did a better job making a distinction between actual city-based, formal state-level socities and cheifdoms and tribes, since some places marked as normal are complex city-states while others are simple tribal chiefdoms; and some confedacions are actual republics and conefedeacies, like tlaxcala, while others are just tribal confederacies. Same for Territorio: Some are just showing the territory of tribes, while others are showing areas that contained multiple cities and towns with no clear ruling party. As a general rule, everything in tbe bottom 2/3's of mexico to the end of the Yucatan Pensisulla were actual civilizations, city-states, empires, etc; while the stuff above, like the northernmost areas here; and the whole centralamerica part; were tribal.

Mesoamerican history/culture in general is pretty interesting, it's a shame people are taught jack fucking shit about it in school
They essentially represent an (almost) entirely isolated example of complex civilization developing, and by extensionadvancing along a separate sociologically and technological pathway then what you see in the Old World as a result; not matching cleanly up with any particular Old World civilization
Which is why you see stuff like them still using stone tools and weapons and never having invented the sail; but otherwise at least being on par with Bronze age civilizations in other regards, most often/on average being comparable Classical Antiquity/. Ancient Greece; and then outright the most advanced sanitation, medical, and botanical practices and science in history till that point.
Anyways to circle this back to Mortal Kombat, i'm interested to see how Kotal Kahn's outfits end up looking. There's a lot of cool armor and clothing they could pull from actual Mesoamerican cultures, pics related.

I very much doubt NRS is filled with SJWs.
Bowing to SJW pressure? maybe, the outfits in MKX and MK11 do have far less skin, but in MKX they were going for a more realistic art aeshetic in general compared to the arcadey look MK9 and prior titles had. Personally, I don't mind as long as the end result looks good (and niether should you, hating shit on prinicpal of the views of those who made it is a big part of what makes SJW's cancerous to begin with) in MKX, Kitana, Sonya, and Mileena had some of their best outfits in the fracnhise.
Skarlet, Sonya, and Cassie look pretty shit in MK11 though. As I said, I think just giving skarlet her old hair back would go a long way towards fixing that.

So, sorry for the delay anon.
So, to begin with, most of our sources for Nahua culture (which most core Aztec cities belonged to) comes from either Spanish friars, or the descendants of native royalty or nobiity, both groups often acted as chroniclers, the former interviewing the native people and recording stuff about the history they knew and about society in general, the latter passing down information that ran in their familty or was taught to them as part of having access to elite schooling.
We actually have tens, even hundreds of examples of Nahuatl language accounts and documents dating back to the early colonial perood as a result of this. So, if you want to get knee deep, your best bet is to explore those. However, many of these are untranslated or have only been translated into spanish, and there's no good, easy to find single diecttory of all of these to see what exists: The Handbook of Middle American Indians is a compendium that has a few entire volumes devoted to listing all the different historical sources we have, not just on the Nahua/Aztec, so if you are interested in doing serious research buying that or at least the volumes that details all the ethnohistorical sources would be your best bet for a directory of these primary sources, but that's going pretty balls deep in
The two biggest, most notable one are Sahagun's "A General History of the Things of New Spain" and Duran's "A general history of the indies of new spain". Both of these have english translations (albiet i've heard said translations have issues), and I think would be a good place to start, and in general form the backbone of our understanding of Nahua history/society, though they are still coming from Spanish sources who have biases and should ideally be cross checked with other souces and archeological data: For example, both speak of homosexuality being viewed as something to be punished with brutal execution, but there's some ongoing research this may not have been the case. You really should look into finding annotations or other accompanying works whenever you read these sorts of documents. There's probably better ones then Sahagun';s and Durans for myths and legends and stuff, but I don't think they'll really involve creatures, per say, I think Duran/Sahagun';s are more likely to mention those.
If you aren't wanting to get that serious/in addition to that, i'd chek out "Mexican Bestiary: Bestiario Mexicano". I've never read it but I came across it while looking for sources for you just now, and I know the author from speaking to him online regularly. I can't say I always agree with his interpenetration of things but he knows what he's talking about and I think this is probably your best bet for info specifically on creatures and spirits and such that aren't Gods. For gods themselves, "An Illustrated Dictionary of the Gods and Symbols of Ancient Mexico and the Maya" is a pretty good resource, though it's sort of dry and more just lists the visual icongraphy of specific dieites as they appear in art and basic symbolic associations, not really myths/stories.. Note that both the bestiary book and this though won't really go too much into the larger trends of their religion so much as specific dietities and figures; if you are about the actual trends and cosmology and stuff let me know.

Cont:
Now, you've probably noticed I've only really talked about the Nahua or "Aztec": We simply do not have as many good sources on this sort of thing for other mesoamerican cultures, or at least not that i'm aware of: Everything except the Aztec and Maya are pretty understudied and have less written records to go off of. The relacion de michoacan exists for the Purepecha but i'm not sure how much of that is the sort of info you are looking for. "Stories In Red and Black" covers some Mixtec stuff, but as with tthe Relacion de Michoacan I don't think it has much of what you are looking for, though unlike with the Purepecha, who are really truly understudied, I know there's still good work out there on the Mixtec and Zapotec even if I can't give more recs then that (rather, I can, but I very much doubt it has what you want). The Maya, meanwhile, DOES have a lot written on them, arguably more then the Aztec. but i'm really not informed on what to suggest beyond the Popol Vuh, which actually just had a new english translation come out which people seem to be raving about.
I DO want to note, howrverr, that as The Yucatan, the Oaxaca and Guerrero regions, Michoacan, the and other parts of mexico are more rural and do have some inidningious communities still, some degree of pre-contact traditions and folklore still exists today. I don't know *how* you'd actually go about looking into the traditions and folklore of these communities, but it's absolutely something you could do I imagine and I think would likely yield good results for you ir you pursued it.
Lastly, i'm going to post this mega link, which is a mega I and another anon run; which has tons of resources, book scans, etc. https://mega.nz/#F!vtQ2EIKK!Z7R8gN5vTsfalKDn18jOmw Not sure anything there will be of us to you, but still. These are interesting. Now, I recall reading something, mainly that one idea that Ed has been trying to get to the front is Khameleon having a more important role. Barring this is introducing an actual Saurian Matriarch to showcase that Reptile, for all of his abilities and skill, is supposed to be infantile in knowing what the Zaterran can ACTUALLY do. Khameleon/the Matriarch would be this combination of reptile's abilities but also the more elaborate skills of the "female ninja" characters like Mileena with teleports. This would give reason for Reptile not being playable as this character would basically be the same as him and he'd be possibly akin to a summon, similar to Noob's shadow, the alien, or the Demon in Scorpion's variation in MKX.

That visual style is a complete mess. I mean, I get that they're trying to convey that he's super gay, but I can't tell if they're making him of the Butt Pirate or Butt Bandito variety.

The whole screaming death whistle stuff is a hoax, sadly. I know it's super metal and it seems like something they'd do but the whistles used historically wouldn't have made those sounds and weren't used in war for intimidation, though stuff like drumbeats and hollering was.
The idea that they intentionally didn't kill enemies in combat is sort of overstated. The capture of enemy soldiers was important, but it's not like their entire system of warfare was set up around avoiding killing people to sacrifice later: They still killed enemy combatants and were trying to achieve a tactical objective, it's just that when possible taking enemies alive was valued, such as after enemy lines broke and the battle was already won, etc
Flower wars in particular were a bit more ritualistic though so it's different there, where getting captives was indeed the goall: These were pre-arranged, ritualistic battles organized between Nahua (the larger cultural group most core Aztec controlled cities and the ruling aztec cities belonged to) city-states for diplomatic arrangements, like to cement alliances; or were used against enemy states that they wanted to conquer/wear down as a sort of extended siege
Traditional sieges were infeasible in Mesoamerica due to the lack of beasts of burden: Supplies had to be carried by hand by porters as a result, and since they coul;dn't graze like mules could, they had to also carry their own supplies, which set a hard cap on how long armies could be out i the field on campaigns for before needing to resupply, also exacerbated by the fact that due to the lack of calvary outnumbering the enemy army was a bigger deal and mesoamerican armies could get larger then european ones as a result; and also since Mesoamerican warfare was seasonal, with campaigns going on in the winter months so men could work the farms in summer, especially since the Mesoamerican diet was far more crop relient due to lacking any of those large mammals to use as food sources.
So, Flower Wars, being smaller scale, more ritualized battles, could take place all year round, unlike larger campaigns, and since the Aztec invariably had a much larger pool of soldiers and supplies to pull from, the constant use of flower wars against an enemy state would wear down the target far more then it burdened the Aztec logistically So this was a way to sort of siege and wear down enemies over extended periods of time, as well as to keep soldiers trained and prevent them from getting rusty, and obviously, having a stream of enemy soldiers to sacrifice. In geneal, the Aztec preffered to slowly chip away at more sizable enemy states, by conquering the territory around them, cutting them off with blockades and assaults from all sides over years, so this strategy worked well in that framework. If you look at maps of the Aztec empire you see a number of enclaves as a result of this.
So yes, capturing enemy soldiers for sacrifice was important, but it's a mistake to think of them as purely viewing warfare as ritualistic and not as real military strategists and as actual soldiers fighting real wars.
