I played it back on the 360. It is a terrible game with a poor localization(and this was one of the versions that was not censored) but I don't hate it. The game itself does basically everything right except the gameplay which it does extremely poorly. If you can suffer through that you will find a cool concept, ok plot, fun characters, and tons of wasted potential. I should mention it's a very long game and you can easily lock yourself out of the true ending and post game(which continues the story) so you might want to follow a guide.

In the previous games they at least tried to move away from the RPGMaker look and feel of the battle; the "overland" map is still that linear point by point crap and as far as the generations ie the selling point of the game where you handhold some bug eyed creep into popping a new character goes I believe this one has even less characters, both PC and NPC than the average Agarest game. The first one was five generations, the second three and this is only two. During each generation they screw with your party and you continue as your kid while losing most shit you earned

You aren't wrong. So far I'm liking this game because the fights are decent and require a bit of thought, bigger budget JRPGs are usually just "buy better gear and spam attack to win". It's obviously not amazing like a Kiseki game but for a game about having kids with loli-ish waifus to save the world I'd say it's fine. I also like the fact that the localization is very simple, there's no memeshit or any bells or whistles, just a simple and fairly competent translation.
This game does have a lot of CH's "sins" though, including reused assets from other games and sudden difficulty spikes.
