Apparently they're updating the way they handle shared redistributable updates such as .NET and Visual C++, the updates should be a gig each though mine were all 0 bytes.

It'll still update when you go to play the game. I think you can probably get around this by just using offline mode to play it but that's a pain in the ass and you used to just be able to tell a game not to update. Ideally patches should be distributed in such a way that you can update your game to any version that has ever been released.
