That was fucking bullshit. At least Matador had the decency to teach you to use buff. Here the game just show you how terrible the smirk mechanic is and that RNG will fuck you up if you get the wrong assist for a boss.
I suspect this was to incentize people to see that you can pay real money to ressurect yourself for a lot of macca. And, oh look! there's a DLC to get you lots of macca really quickly.
