Last Light was already occidentalized as fuck with the retarded "make friend with a nigger kid" plot, "muh evil nahthzee larpers can fight the remnants of the Russian army" and a happy ending full of hope (despite being loosely based on the events of the second book and the second book being so much better than the first. And the ending being literally "man lose hope he didn't even know he still had"), with barely any of the "ambiance RPG" that made the first one so cool.

2033 is a "light novel", 2034 is an attempt at a proper novel.
Literature-wise there is 0 doubt 2034 is waaaayyyy better than 2033, so of course it was not well received by english fans of light novels and vidya, but it's still far too weird and too pulpy to be deemed worthy by people liking proper English novels, so it's not surprising you have heard bad things about it.
The result of that + the vidya popularity led to Last Light """plot""" and 2035, which is hot garbage (it's fan-fiction tier), and now to Exodus.

The Witcher 3 critic stem from it's gameplay compared especially to the 1st RP-wise (with everyone forgetting the 2 is an abortion of a game half done, and combat being terrible in all of them).
The rest of it is quite good at making a credible version of the existing lore, stories, ambiance and environment, which has a "kind of" RPG is a non-negligible part of what makes a game.
Metro 3 only hope is that the gunplay isn't shit, because the rest IS bound to be shit.
