I dunno how to express this thread, so bare with me.

I'm watching a video about the book of the mythical man month, which is about project management.

What I wanna now talk about is how poorly managed are videogames from a software engineering bussiness sense.

It seems to me after watching this video, all we complain about how buggy the games are and how shit they are, beyond the greedy practices, all have in common about a shitty planification and organization (related to the book I just mentioned).

It seems just shocking how inneficient games are made, you would think they would learn from other software organizations.

the problem is time. 2 years is not enough time to develop a AAA with state of the art(or close enough) graphics. this, and the fact that every game must include 'rpg elements' 'multiplayer focus' and 'open world' regardless whether of the game is or isn't better with them is a recipe for disaster.

I think one problem is they constantly drop people after a project even though their next project is going to basically be the same template.

Actually, they did move to some new-ish software development models back in the early-ish 2000's. I don't know for sure what new ones they've adopted, but if I had to guess they haven't quite yet, because the popularity of system based games is just a retooling of their previous structure. I have no idea why this thread is anchored, I'd really like somebody who knows what they're talking about to chime in and explain software development. The best I've got is watching LambHoot on Youtube. Most people fall into one of three categories, never worked on a game and just talk theory, worked on an indie game and have some degree of no idea what they're talking about, or worked in the industry so long ago that they don't know anything new.
