Anyone at all?

It seems like everyone i know, even people that were playing their games back in the 90's are suffering a kind of 'studio fatigue' and have this sentiment of "DS3 was a mess of recycled shit from bloodborne, Not-Tenchu will do the same to DS3" and looking at enemy animations in the trailers i can't say i think that sentiment is going to be proved wrong.

I mean personally i still like the 3rd person take on NES era castlevania gameplay that the souls games brought back. I'm somewhat excited for Noih 2 and The Surge 2. But i have played 5 fromsoft releases in a row over 10 years and they have all been roughly the same idea on repeat. For ten years.

Is it just burnout? a form of brand fatigue for the studio? or are they just stuck as a meme dev now who are only contracted to make one thing?

Because lets be real this is an Activision co-venture and they need an original IP to shill into the ground with RMT microtransactions now they are losing Destiny and this is all they have on the backburner waiting to release.

Are you excited for Shadows Die Twice?

I'm looking forward to it but not getting hyped. Will be interesting to see how From handles a pure action game though there are a few too many Souls throwbacks. DMCV coming out two weeks before doesn't help the game too much either, as it will almost certainly be a far better and fun game. Sekiro probably has the art direction and story down compared to DMCV but Itsuno and his team have the better game.

An Armored Core with better physics and controls would be nice and is something different. Sekiro is a bit too similar to Souls I guess so people feel a bit of fatigue. Fags like Vaati are fighting to crawl into its ass though and I hope the game is shallow as fuck with lore and story so they can't make any videos about it.

bc4f33  No.16018138

Bloodborne shows From can make good dark souls without being dark souls since its far better than any other souls game

I don't care about no multiplayer, I haven't played any online since Dark souls so that Is no big deal, as long as they make it actually unique like Bloodborne and hopefully expand on single player experiences with something like Chalice dungeons or the abyss in nioh then it will be alright

From really wants to make an action game instead of another DS. Bloodborne started to replace some of the mechanics and Sekiro has vestigial parts left. It looks like an even more aggressive version of BB since there's no stamina from what I can tell and breaking their shield gauge or whatever opens them up to a critical hit like in Nioh.

d94fda  No.16018176

>>16018168

the difference though was bloodborne having a very unique look. Last time we got a game like it was Nightmare creatures in like 1998. We all signed up for 'beast souls' in a city during a werewolf outbreak and instead it turned into reverse lovecraft with a really good story about a culture of ancient humans calling down old ones to fuck them over leading to a nightmare bloodcurse.

Meanwhile Sekiro keeps getting confused for other games which isn't something you want to hear when making anything.

What do you guys think the big death twist is going to be? Its said that dying has an effect on the game and it will be personal to every player. Some speculate it affects your ending or they are bringing world tendency back. A cool theory I read was that dying too much spawns a dark version of you that stalks you and acts as invaders as Sekiro is offline.

Personally, I'm just waiting and seeing how the game turns out before I decide on getting the game in any capacity, especially with modern Activision also sitting at the helm.

At the same time though I worry people are going to be all over it whining that it isn't another Souls game because people nowadays only seem to know From for Dark Souls (and maybe King's Field because it inspired Souls) over any of their other IPs (which they've been seriously neglecting, like Armored Core or Echo Night) and it's all they come to expect of them. The fact the game was originally a Tenchu sequel (which has been confirmed in interviews, and the gameplay takes several design elements from Tenchu right down to animations) is going to go largely ignored because all people will be thinking is 'Wait, why isn't this Souls?' when the game looks to be something different from the established Souls formula and wants to do something different.

Maybe the industry would be a better place if From continued being a niche company that produced a bunch of niche titles. Maybe the industry would be a better place if Souls didn't get so popular and all their IPs have gone neglected for a decade or more. I just wanted a Tenchu sequel, instead I get a 'spiritual successor' that's going to be plagued by people whining it's not Souls.

>people keep talking about how great Demon's Souls is

>only ever played the first Dark Souls

>wonder how different it could be, all of those games seem pretty damn similar

>play it

>it's absolutely amazing

I haven't finished it yet, but I'm stunned at how good the overall design has been so far.

I'm especially surprised at how level design in particular can elevate a game.

It really shows the degree of effort that was put into every part of it to make it as entertaining (and challenging) as possible but not frustrating.

Looking back at DaS, it seems like they got it into their heads that their games should be "SUPER HARDCORE" (with the "Prepare to Die" edition being the cherry on top) so they fine-tuned certain parts of the game to either annoy you or slow you down as much as possible.

It also goes to show how a lack of dedicated levels can hurt a game. The interconnected aspect of the world is very nice, but it's a poor substitute for they had in DeS.

In comparison, it seems very disappointing.

Regarding Sekiro, it's the only upcoming game I have any interest in. It looks great, I'm glad they are trying away from the pseudo-RPG style of Souls, and a Japanese setting that actually incorporates folklore and mythology is a nice change of pace.

Also dedicated singleplayer games that actually focus on gameplay are sort of uncommon nowadays.

64bd64  No.16019824

I'm tired to death of soulsborne to be honest; I loved 1 and 2(meme me idgaf) but 3 was just dull and tired, like a flanderisation of the formula. It was two button combat by that point, spam circle then spam R1. I'm a huge Tenchu/Shinobido fan so I'm interested to see what they're going to do from that perspective but frankly, fast paced, hectic action isn't what I'm looking for theses days. I also can't really figure out what they're doing with the combat system so I'll wait on the reviews. I don't think so. Dark Souls has basically played itself out, and anyway, this was never really a problem to begin with. Over the years I've noticed that most people who didn't take to DS (even if they liked the premise) are those who get hung up on dying. It doesn't even matter if they don't lose anything, they just hate seeing "you died".

Death in DS is incredibly forgiving, it's not like your progress is wiped. Just spend your souls and do some trial runs. Most bosses and some areas aren't designed to be first-timed. If you're really struggling to tank hits just level HP or something. I often make tanky characters, spend 10 to 20 hours learning patterns and the early game then start over from scratch and then breeze through the rest of the game.

Sure, I mean, Bonfires and Lanterns were basically checkpoints as well. I just think it would make sense if your revives were limited and/or consumed a resource with other uses, so that you have to think about whether or not it's worth it. It would be super lame to just cheese a boss to death with respawns.

There are a lot of potential creative uses for this mechanic, such as enemies moving your corpse to an inaccessible area then reviving, so I'm really hoping it's not just an easy mode.

I think that the shortcut porn in DaS was a nice answer to the Archstones. If they'd worked just a bit harder - just a little! - on DaS's overall level design it would be glorious. (Levels that need work are the Depths, Tomb of Giants, Lost Izalith with a fucking bullet, and maybe some parts of the Basin and Valley of the Drakes.)

Looking back it's shocking how actually small some of these areas actually are and how little there is. I absolutely love DeS and the archstones. The game as a whole is a nice package.

The game looks nothing like asscreed as far as gameplay is concerned I doubt combat is just wading into a horde and spamming invincible counter animations, and actually in almost every other way (such as aesthetics) as well.

Did you play the original release of it? People bitched there were too many enemies but it worked better than Prepare to die has. Having to plan your route through a horde of giant enemies while walking through lava made for a unique challenge. When they rebalanced the place post-release it lost all identity. Instead of a cluster fuck nightmare it became an obvious route with bland encounters. The most interesting enemies are only met once on the main path.

There's nothing wrong with Bed of Chaos. If anything Dark Souls 3 should of taught people to better appreciate it as an encounter. It's a hell of a lot better than the generic mess every boss in 3 is. If it was in 3 people would of praised it for it's differences instead of bitching it wasn't another generic boss battle.

Kung fu kicking dragon ass hell. That was if you didn't have covenant that let you skip that part of the area, and at release you had to cut the tail off of the centipede demon to get the ring that granted resistance to lava otherwise you were fighting a highly aggressive group of tanky enemies that had huge reach on a tiny area. While now the dragon asses are pretty much pointless since they are so far out that it is much more difficult to aggro them.

Bed of Chaos reminded me of a Demon's Souls boss, in particular the more "puzzle" bosses like the Storm King or Dragon God. However, it isn't as well put together as either of them, or any of the Demon's Souls bosses.

Complaining about "generic boss battles" in Dark Souls is sort of like complaining about "generic monster fights" in Monster Hunter. Those fights are supposed to be one of the main selling points of the series, replacing one with a bad platforming section is AT BEST good for a one off. It's not something people are going to want to replay continuously.

55b916  No.16022138

>>16022133

Excuse me, I might have phrased that wrong.

A bad fight is a bad fight, regardless of whether it's the right kind of fight for the game. However, assuming they are actually good individually, "too many" of that type of fight isn't a valid complaint.

1ebb69  No.16022161

>>16022138

Bed of Chaos isn't a bad fight though, it's just more of a puzzle boss than a straight up fight. There's 22 bosses in Dark Souls. If we're generous we can say Moonlight butterfly and Ceaseless discharge are not the normal boss fight but then you have 19 other generic boss battles. Is that not enough for you? Wouldn't you rather they threw in a few different boss encounters to spice things up a bit?

Dragon god is a damn good boss encounter who only becomes bad retro actively. You enter the fight and oh shit he's huge and terrifying. Then you make your way through the boss scared of him until you solve the puzzles and he dies. That's way more interesting than the Old King from DaS2 which is a similar sized opponent but a generic fight.

I don't think it's a bad fight because it's not a generic souls boss fight. But Dark souls 3 was nothing but generic souls boss fights and most people hated it for being the same bland experience over and over. How many times can you roll roll roll before you just get tired of it? A few puzzle boss fights and unexpected twists go a long way to make up for it. Bed of Chaos's biggest flaw is not it's design but the games pacing. By the time you encounter it you're already wanting the game to be over, you have multiple bosses to get to it and you're just about done. But I feel the same way about Seeth on that front.

Maybe it's the burn out speaking but a good boss fight isn't a "good" boss fight to me. I don't care how good any of the DaS3 bosses are. i just don't want to repeat that same gameplay loop again and again. The fact that BoC isn't just a generic blob of the same 3 hit combo, gap closer and AOE scream is refreshing going back to it.

Bed of chaos is a fucking awful fight, regardless of whether or not it breaks the monotony or if said monotony needed breaking. Maybe if the boss "damage" didn't persist through deaths, allowing you to death zerg it it might be slightly better. But if that were the case it would simply stand out even more for how bad the mechanics are.

Dragon king is a better example because at least that fight works the way it's supposed to. You don't just run through three times to get a free kill and you don't have to fuck with weird pseudo-platformer shit in a game that is NOT built for it. Either way I still don't like it. I want my boss fights to be real fights, and 22 isn't nearly enough. Of course when you get down to it DaS 1 doesn't have nearly that many real fights, you can count the number that come down to mechanical execution on both hands. The rest, like Neeto, Pinwheel, Butterfly etc are all either gimmicks or they are done before you begin.

There's no platforming unless you consider falling off of a ledge to be platforming.

Nito's a generic boss fight but he has 2 companions. No different to Capra demon.

Pinwheel's problem is they underestimated what the average player would be doing. He's supposed to be an early game boss but you never had a reason to fight him early game and so he gets steam rolled for it.

Every Dark souls boss fight is the same. You learn the combos and roll when needed. I've invested probably 1,000 hours into these games and it's cool at first but you quickly realize every boss is the same boss slightly reskinned. The bosses were never the games strong point, it was always the exploration and later games did away with that. Too many close bonfires and senseless short cuts removed all sense of adventure.

If you don't believe DaS has monotony problems then you're incredibly autistic. Once you get the lord vessel the game crawls to a halt in pacing. The later areas are half finished or annoying as hell. The stairs in the Duke's archive, the tomb of giants, slippy ice platforms. Once you leave Anor Londo the game shits it's self and only the 4 kings can be considered a decent end game area. If you add in the DLC then the pacing becomes even worse.

>Pinwheel's problem is they underestimated what the average player would be doing. He's supposed to be an early game boss but you never had a reason to fight him early game and so he gets steam rolled for it.

I always took it as a kind of bonus, if you had the balls to take on the catacombs early you got a cool reward for the rest of the game. You're right about the rest though, the system just wasn't made for handling shit more complicated than hollows and it really shows. Furthermore Dark Souls level design was pretty great pre Beavis and Butthead, and dungeon crawlers with well designed levels are so rare these days. That's the main reason i ended up hating Dark Souls 3, the whole world is effectively a straight line with a couple detours.

Back on topic no i don't care much about Sekiro at all. I am how ever just starting to get into Armored Core, so that should keep me busy a good while.

The DLC is far better than anything the base game has. The fact that 3 out of 4 DLC bosses are actually decent fights is a big part of that. Level design is far better than anything post-anor-londo too. You can go fuck yourself with your "pacing" complaint.

Like I said, DaS1 only has a small handful of good bossfights. O&S, three from the DLC, maybe you can count Gwyn. That's all I can really think of tbh. DaS2 does much better in that regard, and I'll bet DaS3 further improves but I haven't actually played that (was waiting for a "complete" edition so I didn't have to play it twice, but that never happened).

Remember I compared it to Monster Hunter. You can be just as idiotically reductive about the fights in those games, but anyone else will tell you that in spite of everything boiling down to a big creature trying to smash you while you roll around, the fights are (almost) all very different and nuanced, and also that 22 isn't nearly enough, not when World has 34 and that's still insultingly little.

0e683f  No.16022417

>>16022366

World needs at least like 2-3 more monster skeletons. Hopefully Iceborne gives more than that though.

O&S isn't really a good fight though unless you want to use summons or casting. There are hardly ever any openings when you are solo so it is gonna take you forever to dodge and weave till you can get that single hit in with a melee wep and immediately retreat. Also Ornstein has that long spear dash and the lightning projectile that can both go right through Smough so you can't see them coming if you have bad luck and manage to have them group up too much/distort the line of sight. DaS combat isn't designed for double boss combat. It can work with multiple small enemies since you can kite them fairly well or just flat out brute force them but with bosses that are going to 1-2 hit kill you it is a bad combat mechanic to put you up against 2 bosses. The only reason it works with the gargs is that you can get most of the damage in or even fully kill the first before the second one spawns.

Bloodborne is better than Dark Souls for me purely because bosses have different weak points like how darkbeast paarl is a fast moving, high damage nightmare unless you learn you can repeatedly break his backlegs which causes him to collapse into a pile of bones, but everything at that point as large as him has taught you to go for the head or arms.

>making games console exclusives cripples them

Yes.

>he also told you why it's shit in terms of gameplay

No, he didn't.

Console games will often get bogged down by performance limitations which is why they have to come up with all sorts of tricks to cover up that 3/4 of the level aren't even loaded.

You could argue that this affects design (which is true), but if the dev is at least moderately competent, they can overcome that problem (to an extent).

As dumb as it sounds, placing some limits on what hardware can do in this day and age would not be such a bad idea if it forced developers to squeeze every last bit of good ideas and performance that they can to make it work and look good.

PC got swamped by lazy devs who make awful games and don't optimise them in the least because "just buy a new graphics card, mang."

You have insane performance which is not being put to good use.

What I want to say is that you can make a good game on any platform as long as you know what you're doing.

Are consoles shit? Absolutely.

Does that mean the games are shit too? Not at all.

That's how you beat him, you bait his attack, and when it's done then hit it once and dodge away I think it's the only one it does too, it's predictable as fuck. "Taking up your entire screen" doesn't matter if safety is just one roll away. Or you could 4 firebombs and stunlock it to death. Everyone agrees the DLC is the best part of the original game. It's the model every other souls game is based on. But it's also a rehash of an area in the main games and it does have pacing issues. The DLC it's self isn't an issue on it's own, it's an issue with the entire game around it. Just playing the DLC would have no pacing issues. Having explored most the world and then getting a +1 extension to every area is an issue with pacing. The DLC being added adds more of the same where you're playing Dark Root +1, same as Anor Londo +1 and Catacombs +1.

I don't like monster hunter so I'm not going to get into a slap fight with that. It's a game about grinding so you can kill the same generic style bosses over and over. I don't play games for the bing bing wahoos so it doesn't mean shit to me.

DaS2 is objectively the better adventure but it's disjointed as hell. Each "set piece" is superior. But it doesn't flow as well and the game mechanics are fucked. It's still the only Souls game outside of Demon's souls I'm willing to go back and play. It's broken but interesting.

The boss fights can be the cherry on the cake but they rarely are. The sewer in DaS1 is one of the few areas that pull this off. Seeing Gaping for the first time is an oh shit moment. His difficulty doesn't matter because he's a visual boss not a fighty boss. Which supports my point. Bosses don't have to be fun fights, they have to serve different purposes and fit the area to make a larger adventure. Capra is a good fight, but most people hate him. Gaping is a bad fight but people like him. Different bosses suit different parts of a larger whole, which newer souls games have forgotten.

>>16022939

The PS1 was objectively a superior machine to the PCs at the time. PCs lagged way behind in 3D graphics which was the newest technology of the time. You cannot make a universal claim that PC is superior when consoles have been superior.

To dismantle you a bit more. How about I want to run my windows 10 game on a windows 95 PC? Is PC still superior there? What if the PC version has endless bugs and runs at 30 FPS but the console version has 60 FPS and is bugless? These things happen. If you spent any time around PC gaming pre-Steam you would realize what a mess PC gaming is and always will be. I like PCs more than consoles, but PC isn't always superior. Especially if you want to leave your mother's basement and play some games on the go. A Vita is superior to a PC if you're rarely home and want to play some games on a bus ride.

>>16022950

Autism. Same reason people speedrun.

First time through a souls game should be played with melee and a bow only for pulling. Anything else is too broken and spoils the experience.

>In one of the first areas of DS 3 there's an enemy that's standing atop a ladder just out of sight even when you're at the very top. That enemy is there just to bushwack and kill you with you having next to no chance of escape(since it immediately pins and stunlocks you against the ledge).

Good, this is something missing in later souls games. Traps are a big part of DeS, you can't just rush through or you get fucked up for it. Traps were put in 1 area in DaS1 and the games never brought them back universally. Traps put you in the mood for a dangerous adventure. You're not supposed to be the gallant hero who strides into duels over and over. You're mostly a thief looking to loot and murder people. Adding traps to your castle only makes sense if you're uber powerful and constantly have plebs wanting your souls. Especially low level plebs who keep respawning. Instead of fighting every single undead who walks in you just set a spear to stab them in the dick when they step on a stone. All the respawning hollows walk in, die and then respawn until they lose their mind. No risk to your soldiers or yourself.

You never said it had to be a brand new high end GAYMING PC. You only said it had to be PC. Many people used to have desktop PCs bought from Dell which would run games at 20-25 FPS if you were lucky. That's how I first played through Half life 1, complete with long ass loading times.

You can't just say the latest and greatest PC is better than a console. That isn't how PC gaming works and we all know it. Even if you bought a top quality GAYMING PC in 2005, by 2016 when the Xbox 360 had finally lost support your PC wouldn't be running anything the 360 would at that point.

We get you're a PC master race weenie who's never experienced what PC gaming really is, but do try to stop being a pleb. PC and consoles both have strengths. Not every sequel has to innovate on everything for it to be good. What you call "recycling" is just consistency in most cases.

Take DS2, for example. It would've been better had it had better world design, enemy design and moveset, enemy variety, better mechanics and less casualization. The fact that it had many of the same weapons and themes from DS1 isn't what stopped it from being a good game.

>>16023691

A good sequel takes the original concept and expands on it. That's why trilogies are traditionally the end point for a story. First invents something, second expands it, third refines it and concludes it. Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne are the 4/5th game in the series and are why they are the state they're in. They're usually only fucked in the sense that we hold PC games to a higher standard. DS1, for instance, was very similar to console versions; despite that, people consider it a bad port because it didn't have more options, like 1080p and 60fps which consoles never had until the remaster.

Despite this, you're right that some ports might be inferior to the console version, but they can also be the same or even better. DS1 with dsfix had 1080p and 60fps years before the remaster.

The original release which as discussed in the thread got completely reworked for the PC and is missing content because of it.

Are you going to claim Dark souls is objectively better on PC because it got made easier? That item placement got reworked to be easier, you got more souls, enemies were removed etc? PC master race can't even play Dark souls as it was at release.

I also had games refuse to work at all. Just straight up not work and no forums or tech support could resolve it on PC. A script wouldn't run to activate a path I needed to advance through and it locked my game 5 minutes in. These things do happen on PC and are much less likely to happen on console due to quality checks being higher.

I'm not cherrypicking. I'm describing my experience. I had none of the issues you're talking about and I'm usually pretty good at fixing issues myself anyway so for me, things like what you mention are usually non-issues.

However, you yourself implied there's little probability of encountering these issues, hence why you found nothing on the forums about them. This is both a testament to how problems like that can be encountered but also a testament to how rare they are.

I maintain my point that the vanilla port was the same as the console version, with the added possibility of having 60fps with some rare issues if enabled, and 1080p with no downsides at all. Having the problems you described is a rare encounter. I'm not denying the problems can exist, but I'm stating they're rare and in the cases where it works well (which is the majority of cases), DS1 was a better experience on PC.

>I maintain my point that the vanilla port was the same as the console version

And you are completely wrong as I explained earlier. Vanilla, unpatched Dark souls on PS3 was much harder than the later patches. You couldn't buy higher grade titanites from the giant black smith. Enemies dropped less souls, had different aggro ranges and some were outright removed. In the Undead burg when you come up the stairs after the first bonfire the enemies zerg rush you in unpatched. In a rebalanced patch they come at you much slower and have smaller aggro ranges. The PC version cannot access the unpatched original Dark souls game consoles had. It can only access the easier, rebalanced version which came out with the DLC.

I've repeated this point about five times now. The PC version of dark souls isn't the same as the console one. The original release is significantly harder. I can put in my ps3 disc now and play it as it was at release. I cannot do that on PC, I can only play the baby patched version which toned the game down.

783f11  No.16023913

So the patched version is the same. I don't see why the unpatched version is desirable, specially because these patches also came with bugfixes.

You don't understand why some people might like to play the game without areas having half the enemies removed? The original release plays like a completely different game, it's back breaking in places. If you don't desire that then that's fine, but some of us liked the difficulty and find the patched version an inferior game.

It doesn't necessarily make the game more difficult. The game allowed for exploits that made the game piss easy, like the infinite magic glitch, which was later removed after patching. And some PC mods allow to make enemies more aggressive, rendering your difficulty argument kind of null. There are also mods to randomize item locations and several other stuff.

Either way, this is beyond the point. I'm not making the case for the unpatched version, but for the patched one. If you prefer the unpatched version that's fine, but you're the minority and this isn't really a strong point to extrapolate to console versions vs PC ports anyway.

Just to reiterate my point, most PC ports are only considered bad because they're held to a higher standard; patched DS1 was the same as the PC port, but the PC port offered more options that consoles didn't have until much later. It still has more options even after the remaster if you consider mods.

It looks alright on it's own. As a long time souls fan, however, my expectations have already been set. You can also mod it to be more difficult and get the added difficulty you wanted. Modding is only not important when you specifically cherrypick the mods that are not desirable for you.

I'm not saying your opinion isn't important. It's even worse than that, it's not even relevant since most people don't run into these issues or even desire unpatched DS1. In fact, even desiring it is illogical when you consider that your argument for unpatched DS1 was based around your desire for more difficulty, which can be achieved on PC, with all the other added benefits.

I hope they bring back world tendency but it functions more like the change of day that happens in bloodborne;

>die in an area

>when you respawn you start at the beginning

>the battle that is on-going in that area has progressed

>the final time you can die all the enemies will be dead and it will be a wasteland

>each time you die it gets progressively easier but you get less drops from that area and the actual look of the area is different

>the side that you're aligned with/ the guys who aren't specifically trying to kill you are all obliterated and some high-tier enemies appear in specific zones, all acting like minibosses

>each progression of death makes everything get more and more fucked over time, causing more and more enemies to show up until that last time, where the battle has been won by them and they've moved on to the next area

>the world tendency of the last area plays into how fucked the next place is (pure black would mean that you start the next area with a bit into the gray heading toward black)

>If you have a gray world tendency after a black world tendency and you don't die, the next area will reward you with a white world tendency

>if you keep dying in the same area you can rack up black world tendency for all areas after a certain point

>your ending changes based on what your world tendencies were/ what your last couple world tendencies were(pure white all the way through gives you a special ending, pure black can give a shitty bad end with a shit-like final boss

These are all my thoughts, I wanted to make a game like this, but demon's souls had me beat and it wouldn't surprise me if they brought it back.

Asides from the two disenfranchised camps of FromSoftware fans ("it's not Dark Souls" and "it's too much like Dark Souls and other games"), Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice broadly lacks appeal. normalfags haven't had the Fromsoft name ingrained in their heads even after the success of Bloudsouls. While nostalgiafags can't care enough for a spiritual successor without a bigger push. And, to be honest, Tenchu hasn't aged well. Sekiro is the awkward milestone in FromSoft"s puberty before potentially becoming something bigger. Referencing both its roots and its recent successes, Shadows Die Twice is a farewell to a closing chapter in the studio's lifespan. For that reason, the game is something to try out. If not, that one VR game.

As for the gameplay, I have the suspicion that stealth will be under-utilised from the gameplay shown. The case can be made against this fear with the information available. Even so, Bloodborne barely had a stealth mechanic, and my favourite thing to do was sneak attacking the deranged townspeople. The swordplay doesn't look like nothing too special. Finally, from the perspective of someone that played the first 3 Tenchu games; as long there is cinematic kills, versatility in level design, and some horror that's enough for a successor. I'm not angry about the bosses. They were always a big part of series. These elements are mostly all that I remember anyways.

I wouldn't call it the perfect sequel. I felt like Dark Souls fell flat in a lot of places compared to what Demon's Souls excelled at. The atmosphere and consistent quality being two big ones. Dark Souls is great for the first half but falls flat on its face after Anal Rodeo and the atmosphere just isn't there for me. Demon's Souls, while also gutted in the same way that DaS is, is at the least considered a finished game and the feeling of oppressive dread almost drowns the player. I had to quit playing a couple of times during my first playthrough because it is that damn good.

Normally sequels are just terrible, in this case it was better. I understand Demon Souls does some things better, for instance there is nothing like the Tower of Latria, but the length of Dark Souls and its interconnected map, plus the amount of secrets make up for that. Taken as a whole Demon Souls is great, Dark Souls is greater while missing some aspects of Demon Souls, and then Dark Souls II which isn't bad on a replay, feels like a game that try to be Dark Souls, ironically, it doesn't feel like it has a soul, it's just perfected mechanics aimed to please people who already like Dark Souls, so it just ends up being pleasing and that's it.

d332fa  No.16057259

Latria really hits all of the fears someone could have. You have this cramped dungeon/prison with traps around every corner, lovecraftian horrors that can kill you almost instantly if you're not careful and a sense of complete isolation from safety in 3-1. 3-2 is this combination of extreme heights, open space and tight walkways with a bonus of a double penetration at the end. 3-3, if you're online, forces you to fight a player which you can potentially avoid throughout the rest of the game. Really plays into the fact that this once once great kingdom is now a terrifying prison run by a decrepit, corrupt usurper.

Too much cheap shit and getting blasted by gunship rays.

Not being able to evade the encounters and the laser ghosts standing in your way didn't help either.

I understand why you didn't like those parts, but the game never felt like a chore for me, even at its worst.

And that is the most important thing for me.

I guess it really took me for a spin because I haven't played a game of actual high quality in what feels like years.

>>16057259

I really liked the little details they gave it.

Not even opening the iron maidens was safe and if you didn't have curatives, you might have to go back to the nexus to get them (which is what I had to do).

I'm still not 100% sure how the prison guards work, but being half-blind really worked out for them.

They only ever attacked me from the front and were easy to get a jump on, provided you were patient and the bells they carried with them gave away their location and what they were doing.

Not being forced to redo any part of the level if you got killed at the boss sealed 3-2 as great for me.

You went through that hell once, now you just need to kill the bastards.
