After a few updates it ran fine for me, no crashes. Bugs was a different story of course. Nothing major as far as I can remember. I liked the combat.

Traveling in the forest is something I enjoy doing in game. The forest hunt with Hans was great. Alone in the woods, nothing but a bow and hunting hare. Even bought a famous hunting book "The hunting book of Gaston Phebus" which is a cool 1300's book with pictures depicting the hunting of all kinds of game in Europe. Its about letting your animal use its cunning ability to escape, rather than killing/trapping the animal without a chance or any knowledge.

The addition of the Tournament in the southeast town (forgot the name) was fun. Couldn't win, the competitors were too tough.

I had almost no interest in the medieval before this game, now its one of my favorite hobbies.

I actually went and changed the xp gain for a lot of things that I didn't care about and increased damage a lot. Some mods which make the combat harder are necessary to have fun.

Other than that, it's a nice game where both you and your character level up and get better.

I pirated KCD all the updates and all expansions currently, I enjoyed every single minute of it. Granted I got to play it months after release so I only rarely experienced a glitch or a crash.

I even had to restart the game at various intervals but finished it and now all I need to end is the last expansion

My biggest gripe was the fucking insta-lock combat and the AI cheating on the combos, if 2 people attack you its game over since it can be difficult to outrun opponents when 2-3 of them can charge you and begin a combo while the remaining enemies again surround you and beat you to death without giving you a break to parry or shield yourself.

I loved the towns and the castles, the characters and the script. I wish there where more RPGs like that.

Yes, Gothic 2 still benefits from the systempak (and DX11 renderer), but G1 is capped at 25fps by default and is all kinds of fucked up on modern OS. Both of those are fixed by the systempak. I play through both every year, and haven't had a single problem on 7 or 10 with the systempak.

That was the biggest problem with the game for me, Henry was implicitly sympathetic to every instance of secularism (for instance, the game highly encourages bending over backwards to try to protect the heretics from prosecution). As well, he was immediately incredulous of superstition (he instinctively disbelieves in the "demon skull" for instance), when a real medieval slav would have had a lot more fear of God in him, as well as fear of the possibility of the demonic, even if he wasn't certain. The combat was poorly designed due to low level enemies being pushovers that never defend themselves and high level enemies the ones you meet later on with full plate, klappvisor helmets and combat jupons will block literally every single one of your attacks while your only way to break their defence is to force them in a clinch push against them mid combat, they will have an animation where they will hit you back shortly after. The game never told you you can win these by spamming M1, M2 or space, win the clinch and then spam away at that M1 or M2 key until they die. If they don't die, backpedal, wait for your stamina to regenerate and repeat.

It didn't crash often when I played it. I think I got about 2-3 crashes at most over 30-40h.

Aside from some quests having script bugs and not closing and a weird bug where open doorways had invisible walls it worked fine. A scripted battle also did not trigger a cutscene needed to progress one time. Pretty much everything was fixed by loading. Not perfect, sure, but not unplayably broken.

I backed this game, played the alpha, and was looking forward to it. Then the game releases, bugs out the arse, non existent optimization, had to restart the game three fucking times due to game breaking bugs, finally come back to it nearly half a year later, put over 100 hours into it, finally reach the end of the game, cannot complete it due to Hans bugging out and walking back to Rattay. Fuck this game and fuck that cunt, Daniel Vavra and the rest of Warhorse studios.

The only bad parts about the combat are when it's indoors due to the camera and when it's not 1v1. I don't bother fighting more than one person at a time because of the way the AI works. If it were only more like Way of the Samurai, for instance. All is fair in war if you're in Europe, I suppose. The most important part of combat for me is everything except for the fight. If I don't initiate, I run away and find favorable ground. Fighting is hard, so killing seems more serious, so I try to avoid it. I don't consider myself very good at combat yet, but I used to think it was a completely awful system until I learned more about it. It's not helped by the lack of explanation about combat at all in the early game but you're supposed to be an illiterate, unskilled peasant. The auto lose battle early on is complete crap, though. That aside I've had no crashes and I am in love with the world. The game is really good for a first game and a kickstarter game on top of that. I hope there is some kind of sequel to this.

Do people really have trouble with the fighting? I found it enjoyable. It's true that it's difficult fighting multiple people, but that's the fun of it. The parry chain you're complaining about happens because parrying doesn't drain either of your stamina, leading into a cycle of attack -> parry -> attack -> parry. If you want to take enemies down fast you need to do a few things:

>Feints

Feints have an abysmally low chance of getting parried. By feinting I mean holding the attack button in one direction, then swapping directions and swinging at the last minute. Done properly you should start landing hits against tough enemies instead of getting parried all the time. At most you'll get a block from them, which drains their stamina.

>Master striking

Unblockable counters that you should always be aiming for on the defense.

Staying in combat with the same guy all the time will get you killed. The key to fighting multiple enemies is more than the usual RPG method of focusing on the weak ones first: it's keeping all attackers in your view for easy countering, and it's putting the enemy melee attackers between you and their archers so they don't have a clear shot. You can only do this by disengaging so you can take a clear look around you and how to use the environment to your advantage, such as natural chokepoints.

Any solid hit from a feint or master strike usually unbalances the enemy, which is when you bring the combos in to kill them. Hell, just positioning the enemy in between yourself and his gung ho archer friend at the back can sometimes land you a free unbalance from friendly fire.

Naturally, armor makes everything easier since without it you get unbalanced a lot yourself, but endgame equipment tends to make the game too easy. Give the game another try knowing these and I doubt you'll be as disappointed.

I don't think feints fly so good with most enemies you need them to. Learning and learning how to pull off certain combos, especially those that land on the head and with certain perks is where it's at. Sword and board approach also got me in more shit then I'd first assume from something so naturally defensive. I mean, sure, you can parry but going cassius clay on their ass and dance in for a longsword head chop dance out payed way more dividends.

On the launch patch, feinting did quite literally nothing. It didn't matter if you feinted or not as any high level enemies would still just parry and master strike all of them. The game touches up on that point a bit when you have to infiltrate the bandit camp. They just don't speak a common language, being Hungarian mercenaries. The language barrier dehumanizes them.

I am glad this game did well if only so the developer might do their next game right. I can only recommend the game as investment in the studio. They falsely advertised it as an openworld sandbox like Bethesda's rpgs but it's boring in its' linearity and permits no saves between crashes.

You're just salty that this game is well-received. It's an indie title that was kickstarted and it did a damn good job for being a historically accurate RPG. It's a refreshing addition to the genre and I say that as an RPG fan who's played Might & Magic games, Ultima games, old school d&d DOS games like Menzoberranzan, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment. Shit I've even played Kingdoms of Amalur, Two Worlds, and the xbox Baldur's Gate.

As an RPG fan this is a good addition, definitely better than a number of other failed additions to the genre, and you're just QQing hard right now probably because you got BTFOd by not using traditional combat strategy.

Gothic may not have polish but it has charm. While the voice acting is often criticized as amateurish I like it because it's actually German and not some rubbish translated to German. That's a great feeling not just because of the language but because of the gestures and behaviors that come with it.

And it doesn't constantly crash when you aren't cheating and has character. The protagonist isn't a fucking hero. There are people there which try to rob, trick or kill you and multiple ways to solve problems. Many modern games lack that completely and everyone just wants to help you because you're the hero and they have nothing better to and no work to go to.

The background music is also great and unforgettable.

I didn't even bother trying to kill the first "enemy" during the escape, I tried for what I think was an hour. And I thought it was really nice.

I kept thinking "now that Ive kileld bandits and took their armor I can kill cumans", but I had never thought of going back to train with the captains, it's cool how you need to wise up for this game with the combat but the insta-locking and fighting groups makes me hate it if it's more than 3 enemies at a time or 2 if they are heavily armored.

I play RPGs all the time you fucking faggot, I just find historical ones boring no matter how often I try and get into it. Throw in all the fucking cutscenes and walking sections and I was literally falling asleep trying to play the game. Instead, the game played me.

This is why text-based RPGs are superior.

I got a copy of this for my brother months ago The PS4 version because his computer is a toaster. In the ~15-20 hours I've spent with him while he's played it, we've come across a total of 2 softlocking bugs, both involving the horse. The first involved the horse running full-speed into the guard's camp and getting stuck on one of the tents. The other involved the horse going into a river and getting stuck. In neither case could he dismount or move.

Aside from that, armor clipping issues, and a shitty lockpicking system It's much worse on console than PC, PC's is okay, he's generally been enjoying himself. ESPECIALLY with the alchemy minigame.

I don't remember where I heard or read this, but the longsword was historically designed to be a more defensive weapon (you can obviously block and parry with it or use it like a shorter polearm) while having much more cleaving power/impact compared to shortswords due to their mass, which is why they were also used vs enemy cavalry. Sword-and-board was actually considered a more offensive setup than longsword since you can attack a lot faster and even use the shield as sort of a blunt sidearm. And KCD's usage of these weapons also seem to reflect these historical tidbits.
