Even assuming the benefit of the doubt, that this was all concocted by EA's marketers in some 4D chess move, it clearly didn't work considering how horrendously the game bombed, causing EA to cancel all DLC for the game and shutter the studio. Woo, that was a wonderful success, ironic memes saved the day.
Frankly, I'm not sure you were even here when that shitshow happened, because I sure as hell was, and I don't remember practically anyone saying they bought it, especially in an ironic "just for memes xddd" way.
