a98f1e  No.16011408

Haven and hearth world 11 has been announced Feb 1st. For anons who remember our haven and hearth threads from the first exodus, we joined late in the world and got ganked after setting up a pretty decently successful village, but thats just life.

What has changed since our last playthrough:

-3D graphics

-quality of life changes

-two new skills added

-credos added which can confer amazing bonuses if you progress in them

-new animals and wonders

-quests and dungeons

-mammoths and walruses that will rape you seriously

-horses

-balance changes

-new housing such as a viking feast hall or a stone tower and a fully animated windmill with optional grist mill inside

-wood and stone and ingot material colors now affect regions of your buildings

-you can place stockpiles to hold large amounts of base materials like logs and hides

-you can now make custom art and apply it to capes, flags, knarrs, banners, shields, wallpaper, etc

-longboat (knarr) added

-you have to use a wilderness beacon with its hearth secret and light it to bring people in

-you can no longer straight up murder people, you have to whittle them down, learning rage now allows you to murder.

-the world of haven is safer than ever for a bunch of new players and player kingdoms "tax" (You earn all the LP you would have and they also earn a percentage) in exchange for a nice buff in their territory to stats.

I want to play immediately to check this out and warm up during the last two weeks of world 10

http://www.havenandhearth.com/portal/login

when you get ingame add the hearth secret "serialautist" or see if theres a wilderness beacon ready with the same hearth secret, if you have literally no idea what you are doing then check the following link

http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Glossary#Life.2C_Death.2C_and_You

What jobs are there?

Miner, smith, dedicated hermit, animal tamer, hunter, cook, archery/unarmed/swordsman/axeman cheesemaker, winemaker, farmer, silk grower, tanning, clothier, artist, lawspeaker/mayor, magician, fisherman, forager and many more.

the free account is how haven and hearth used to play, now its just like legacy haven and hearth after the community convinced jorb and loftar to shape up. The "verified account" is just donating 15 dollarydoos once to get fuckall more LP and 30% faster "civil" actions like cutting a tree down or sawing a board. It exists to support the development, otherwise a free account is just playing the game normally without restrictions.

I'd say the best thing from subscribing/verified is the bag space, if you're doing one or the other, I'd say verifying's the best since it's permanent.

Fucking hell. A story from ages ago

>join up late

>start my journey to the 8chan base

>arrive exhausted but in one peace despite a close encounter with a boar

>as I show up someone with a wagon is starting to come in

>tries to get the wagon through the door but gets it stuck

>set up on a plot of land and log off for the night

>next morning the entire base is in flames

>hyper russians raided and killed almost everyone

>immediately get accused of being a spy because I just showed up

>game of mafia almost starts where people start accusing everyone of being russian spies

>manage to dodge suspicion because I clearly don't even know how to play yet

>few fragments of people regroup and form another base

>it gets raided too

>make a daring escape on a boat while the soldiers buy some time for us to flee

>regroup with three guys

>travel for four in game hours to a new place

>set up a base there

>peaceful and lush

>thread dies

>spend almost a week building up the place being surprised at how much is being done each day

>start to realise I haven't seen anyone in a while

>get bored and stop playing

God damn those raids were something else. The sheer panic in what felt like one hell of a close call every time. Too bad it's basically an idle game without much in the way of gameplay, I had a lot of fun while it lasted.

34628f  No.16013065

the new curio system has made it much less of an idle game allowing you to do whatever the fuck while you construct, adventure, forage, etc

There are still a few things that cook off for a while like drying/tanning hides, cooking opium, and tar pits. and curios run off ingame time as well now which is nice.

Hoping you will join us for the wild ride, when the server starts there will be plenty of crashing after loftar fucks up the servers ports chaos as people with no ability to murder eachother or protect their property scramble to find a place to settle in and hold on tight. However hafen is much safer now and theres far less R U S S I A happening. Credos are also permanent meaning someone can slaughter you and you don't lose any credo progress and have all the bonuses when you return.

At first, you can only make nettle shirts and pants from nettles you collect from wild. Also iconic Spruce Cap from Spruce Boughs and a piece of string (early game this will mean a Spindly Taproot, be careful not to waste nettles as generic string.)

Once you have farming unlocked, you can plant and harvest flax to make linen cloth and use it for shirts and pants. Once you can reliably kill animals, fur and leather hats, boots, and coats become an option.

These days you also need to gild 95% of the clothes for them to give any bonuses. This is somewhat similar to the thing they had in Salem, just much better. The RNG is on whether or not you will unlock a slot for a new gilding, not if the gilding and slot will just break, wasting both.

Server is indeed going to reset in less than two weeks so you can't achieve too much, but if you're interested in joining the server launch I highly recommend learning the game during this time. If you have money to spare and like the game, verifying your account is a good idea since it's 15 euros for PERNAMENT bonuses to all characters you create under that account, on all worlds.

It was already asked about above. Game is perfectly playable with Free Account unlike back in World 8 where they had retarded system where the time you could stay logged in was limited by your account type (Verified had double the Free, Subscription gave unlimited.) Custom clients quickly implemented opposite feature from Legacy that made you automatically log out after some time in case you forgot your character online, burning the limited time. This was feature in Legacy (100%) for some reason and people generally considered it mere annoyance since you had to leave your character AFKing for Personal Beliefs (currently removed/unimplemented.)

6b1be6  No.16021964

One protip to get Learning Points early is to unlock Fishing. It will pay back half of the 200 LP spent on it immediately as you can now craft Bushcraft Fishingpole and Bone Hook, both granting base 50 LP from "discovering" them when you craft them for the first time. Every Fish will you catch for the first time will grant additional LP, very first one giving even more as you also discover "any fish."

Only problem is that you need bait to catch fish. You won't have energy to dig for Earthworms at the start, your Hitpoints are limited and you'd need energy to regenerate them so letting Leeches fatten themselves up on your character isn't too practical either. You will need to find a flock of chickens, catch them (they wont run away) wring their necks for them to take less storage, take them to base and then pluck them for feathers (useful for curiosities, can be stockpiled) and clean them for entrails that can be used for bait. Fish seem to be best when spitroasted (Drying them is an option but takes a literal RL week.)

6b1be6  No.16021990

>>16021973

Botting is still a problem but devs have been making progress to make the gap between casual player and mass botter less of an chasm. Most important one is probably the Study Table which means you don't need to have client open 24/7 to automatically refill curiosities when they finish.

>How long has world 10 been around? The early worlds usually ended after a few months, wasn't the 8ch village several years ago?

World 10 is more than two years old at this point. I think record for shortest world was 3 months but it had to do with some bug that had extreme effect on in-game economy. Sometimes world has also reset due to hardware failure on server, but these days they have proper professional hosting with backups.

On the discovery LP, forgot to mention that different tree seeds also give discovery, so pick one of each when you spawn.

The first is your soft HP, when that's reduced to zero, you're knocked unconscious, the second is your hard HP, that's reduced when you receive wounds which you can see in the wounds tab of your character sheet, and the last number is your total HP. Each wound has a different method required to treat it, but many just heal naturally over time, to recover soft HP you just need to wait while you're at 8000% energy or more.

>it had to do with some bug that had extreme effect on in-game economy.

If I remember correctly, the goons found a bug that Koreans had been exploiting for a while. They exploited it, too, and then reported it. Jorb showed up and started shitting gold bricks to celebrate with them.

They then used another exploit that they had up their sleeves a highly situational one, to boot to clone the gold bars by crafting it into nuggets and triggering a server shutdown by attempting to tame a wild Mouflon that had been fed about one hundred clovers, without sheering it. They'd figured out that items in your character's inventory would be saved before anything else in the event of a server shutdown, because they didn't bother saving the world's container inventory again, but only if the book-keeping code on the server didn't spot an item in your inventory in a container somewhere in the world. So the nuggets, freshly created as far as the book-keeping code was concerned, didn't associate them with the bars that were still in the containers they were left in. When the server came back up, they were left with both the nuggets in their inventory and the gold bars that had been left in the box that hadn't been updated prior to the shutdown.

Marksmanship only affects how fast you gain the aim meter. You would need to improve the quality of your bow and arrows to do more damage. I haven't played much with the new Hafen. Back in the pre-3D days, we used to find ourselves with five to six hundred players on the server at any given time. The front page of the website now indicates that it's around one hundred. Suffice to say that most people who safely encountered each other in the wild did so in boats, to allow a pretty fair chance of escape if the other person turned out to be hostile. Being able to type quickly and keep your sentences positive in tone would drastically improve your chances of survival. Also, knowing a few languages really helps, as well. Short of having a shitty attitude or a great deal of wealth/fighters in your area, there's probably not much anyone would be interested in killing you over.

To my understanding, this is currently the best (or at least most feature-rich) client. Notable changes include that I is for inventory as Tab has been repurposed for toggling through targets that you have aggro'd. This is, for example, very helpful if you want to rather punch one of the bats still hitting you instead of pursuing the one that started to flee. X for character sheet, C for equipment.

If you are paranoid for keyloggers, you can check out the source code and compile the client yourself.

Heyday, around a thousand players at peak, and three hundred during the slowest times. That was some three to five years ago, though.

They apparently forgot the same lesson as Blizzard. The game was mostly popular with the crowd the devs were interested in because the game wasn't incredibly resource-heavy. A toaster could handle an isometric, 2D game like Old Haven, even in Java. Then they made Salem and got stupid ideas from working with larger groups of people, coming back to implement 3D because they thought that what really got them all that attention was the game mechanics instead of the emergent gameplay.

As an aside, glimmermoss has basically been a good curiosity since curiosities were introduced. They're more plentiful most, don't take as long as some of the heavier payouts, and most importantly aren't bugged like the Golden Egg used to be, which was used to destroy quite a few villages in the past. Seriously, negative LP gains used to affect village authority, which was based entirely upon the LP gains of the village members. This led to moles infiltrating villages we didn't like, then consuming Golden Egg curiosities and taking a huge negative LP total, which in turn gave a monumental authority hit to the village. It doesn't sound like much, but things like this were the minor information differences upon which many were destroyed.

But I digress.

This means once we get enough leather for a wall during the next world we can create a grand library of various things to get newfags up to speed on anything in moments.

Things we definitely need to make parchment of for newfags:

Any string material

Any Prepared hide+leather

Any Hard metal ingot+metal nuggets

Anything rare and of value (making the parchment doesn't use up the item in question)

So I remember doing alot of ranged combat last time I played this because melee+latency in any game is fucking cancer. I read that they changed the way hunting works to the point that ranged hunting is now basically pointless because it reduces the QL of the kill to nothing. Is that still the case at this point? Will I have to hunt everything with a sword to get a proper kill as a fucking hunter or have they since reverted that so that you can hunt things as an archer without shredding your kill into confetti?

charge speed was based on skill, it becomes rather fast when you're a high tier archer. The problem is wether or not it's worth the investment anymore. It used to be a slower, but safer way to hunt. From what i've read it's now completely pointless to use ranged attacks because it absolutely tanks the QL of the kill, meaning there's no justification in the time and effort involved in raising a high level archer outside of pvp purposes. Whereas building a melee combatant still gives you all the perks during non-pvp usage.

Attack Weight means it will make more opening to the target, allowing you to actually do damage. Actual damage dealt is mostly determined by Strength and in case of Melee, weapon. Even when you have access to sword it is optimal to use UA attacks to get the opening and then use Melee attack. This doesn't require much Melee Combat skill so most people stack UA only.

6b1be6  No.16036851

It will also make your defenses restore openings on you more. Everything combat related works by comparing your stat with the opponent, that's what the triangle (delta) symbol is about in some move/maneuver descriptions. Your cooldown is based on the delta of your and your opponent's Agility. This makes Agility arguably the most important combat stat.

Depends on your needs. You want every room and any given building to serve a *specific* purpose.

For private housing a cabin will be enough as you'll only be setting up a bed, some storage and a wardrobe. They also work if you're desperate and want to get a basic house, fast, in a place where tatching material is rare (most important thing for houses but you should be fine in a fresh world).

If you want to make a multipurpose building and can spare the resources/time, a house is probably better. For workshops I'd probably use stonesteads and keep the storage/cupboard spam on the ground floor then put the workstations upstairs or something.

If you're a hardcore roleplayer, just go with whatever fits your fucking fancy and take your time making a truly homosexual village with open doors and uniform furniture.

However structures in your place indicate wealth and hide it :^) and attract more attention (which doesn't really matters since you'll get raided despite having only a leanto).

I think you'll find that the only way to avoid getting raided is to wander around while your hearthfire is locked in someone else's fortified home. A shared key-bearer alt would be the best way to ensure that you're not trapped in the house if you happen to need to travel to your hearthfire. Your possessions should be few and should serve their purposes as the need arises. The ability to gather materials for an established village will be your best bargaining chip for whatever you happen to need that you cannot make while wandering around.

You'd be amazed at how many villages are willing to trade metal goods for multiple baskets full of blueberries. In 2D Haven, it was how I managed to score a quality 50 set of spectacles, which improved my Perception enough to find even more blueberries for the next village I sought to trade with.

The vagrant's life isn't much, but it's hard to pin down and murder that which is always wandering.

This probably isn't the best solution but it's better than what we have now. The bigger problem is really that attributes and skills can only increase without cap. There should be some kind of aging that starts penalizing your Hearthling later in life and eventually kills them.

So what are the different types of decay? Like I see I need to repair my house daily, but that's apparently because I didn't pave the ground under it? None of my other immobile toolstations (eg fireplace, spinner wheels) in unclaimed areas need attention. My kilns seem fine - they're on pavement, but unclaimed

0f00f9  No.16045010

>>16044972

Everything that can decay takes small amounts of damage every week or something. Cupboards get destroyed because they are made out of paper while houses last a noticeably longer time. It takes a couple of months for structures to be destroyed. Think walls have some domino effect where a segment being destroyed causes neighboring pieces to take damage.

I wish I could have witnessed the first people to try using a whirlpool with multiple people in the boat, thinking it would be fine because the boat was undamaged.
