Tried to play R6 3 last year but we couldnt get eachother in a game without it crashing or 1000 ping, most R6 games, SWAT 3&4, Sourcemods/games like sven coop, obsidion conflict and synergy, RE5, RE Outbreak, double dragon, Streets of rage, Metal Slug and Golden Axe are decent coop games. im sure you can play loads of old split screen games online using some emulator

Actually, on the original version there is a mod that allows a second player to control the companion. It's not good or anything, but it's neat that someone managed to do this, and back before Speshul Edition.

Samurai Gunn is fun as hell. It's another Pixelshit Platform Fighter, but unlike Rivals of Aether, which tries to rip off Smash, this one feels more like it rips off of Megaman. You're a Samurai with a sword and a gun, and everyone dies in a nice 8-bit bloodbath.

I legitimately enjoyed playing RE6 co op with my brother. It's pretty ridiculous for an RE game and has plenty of QTE and wagglin'. But it was pretty fun diving, kicking, and stomping on the hearts of enemies. But I will say the cover shooter aspect could get pretty annoying.

The Musou/Dynasty Warriors also had splitscreen if i remember right.
Diablo 3 and other diablo clones can have local multuiplayer(coop campaign, Shared screen).
Resident Evil 6 and Revelations 2 had local coop campaign and extra modes(split for everything).
Divinity Original Sin 1&2 are RPGs with local coop campaign(both split and shared screen)
Then you got the usual sports games like FIFA and the rest or Lego garbage.

Okay, then some of my suggestions are still good.
EDF 4.1 is on pc and out of them all is the most recommended.
Dynasty Warrios(and probably other warriors games like Gundam or Samurai) from 3 and up have splitscreen and are splattered all over the ps2, ps3 and pc.
Add Resident Evil 5 since you got a ps3, same as RE6, all splitscreen.Revelations 2 is on pc as well.
As for Diablo 3, i think the base game is enough for local multiplayer.I got the ps3 ultimate edition and while fun, the support from blizzard stopped.So maybe getting the pc version is best(more if you care about online or the Necromancer dlc).Or just get Dungeon Siege 3.
Some other good local coop games i enjoyed:
ps2
Timesplitters series are the obvious ones, splitscreen campaign and multiplayer.
Metal Slug Anthology(mostly for Metal Slug 6)
Twisted Metal Black and TM Head-On but not the kind of games you get just for Coop.
Global Defence Force is the european version of EDF 2, simple game that gets impossible later on.
The Warriors has coop campaign and is just a great brawler overall.
Star Wars Battlefront 1&2 can be played coop, also obvious ones.

Resident Evil 5, if you can look at it just as a stupid fun action game, is one of my co-op favorites. Dead Space 3 is also excellent co-op fun if you can forget that it was the death knell of a once-spooky series.

My best friend and I ran out of affordable coop games so we often play games that are mere singleplayer games "together" as we live in two different cities 300 km away from each other, we just talk to each other with a voice chat program and go through the singleplayer game at the same time, its actually quite fun and almost as engaging as just being there in a synchronized game world like synergy or other games, doesn't work well with rpgs and or rts but its really fun to do with linear fps games.
We did Clive barker Undying, Area-51, Bioshock 1, Call of cthulhu dark corners of the earth, amnesia the dark decent and a machine for pigs and probably some other shooters I dont remember that way, if you got any linear shooter that'd be good for that I'd love to hear about it.
