Bitterblack was crap for me because I varied my character's vocations a lot, and since the damage formula is made by a retard and the stats matter far more than player skill after a moderate-low threshhold, the game becomes an ultra-slow grindfest of chipping tiny slivers of HP off the enemies. Very badly balanced expansion because it amplified those problems to the max.

All you do as a mage is enchant your staff with whatever you're fighting against is weak against and do your staff charge that launches pathetic little semen balls at your enemies. It's the same with every fucking class. You spam staff charges as Mage, you spam your cannon as Mystic Knight, you spam ten fold arrow or whatever it was as Strider/Assassin. The game is just shit. The only thing it has going for it is that it's flashing and it has that delay when hitting enemies that gives you the illusion of combat having weight.

Mystic Knight gets a skill that lets you launch forward a medium distance. If you use it off of a ledge, you can go a long way and grab onto monsters before they have room to react to you.
Magick Archer (and other dagger classes) get a spinning jump attack that dishes out rapid hits and can't be interrupted in any way. Pair this skill up with magic daggers, like those ice elemental Framae blades, the Eminence passive, and Magick Archer's immolation skill, and you've got a melee demon.

As for Magick Archer, you could invest in the fire arrow spell whatever the shit it's called and focus on a mounting strategy. The explosive rivets will detonate when they come into contact with Immolation if I remember correctly. This is especially potent when you do it to an enemy's weak point, and you can get pretty much guaranteed severed heads on Hydra monsters. Don't forget your Opportunist passive if you opt for this.

If you wanted to play like a pussy. Ideally you'd put the sigil in the crossfire between enemy and ally attacks since they will both trigger the canon. Your counter spells are multi-hit so if you block an attack near the cannon you'll fire a ton of shots too.

It's entirely possible to build the Arisen as some sort of meat wall; especially with Mystic Knight or Fighter. I highly recommend the Immortal armor set paired with a couple of Dragon's Blood to get your resistances near max. With proper shirts and pants, you can get your resistances all to 100% if I'm not mistaken. After that, just gold-rarify all your shit and you're good to go.

For myself, no matter what vocation or type of Arisen I will make I always go with Fighter until vocation level 5 to get the max weight increase, and then, well I just go with whatever I'll have fun with. It's always fun to unleash a fully powered malestorm or glacier as a sorcerer. There's just a lot of neat ways to play.

I went into the game more-or-less blind and tried Warrior because I thought it would be a glass cannon build with Fighter being the tankier of the two. Turns out that Fighter is better at literally everything than Warrior except for clearing damage thresholds (on the bare handful of enemies where that actually matters) and one-shot kills.

Striders and Sorcs are the only good pawns. Warrior pawns actually do more DPS if you unequip all of their active skills and simply let them spam attacks. Pawns don't actually learn nuanced behavior from the player or other pawns, they have a baked in set of behaviors that are prioritized based on inclinations (general behaviors and actions) and bestiary knowledge (enemy specific actions); anyone telling you otherwise is lying to you and will never be able to provide real proof. Enchanted weapons are strictly worse than unenchanted/buffed weapons unless there's a significant level difference in favor of the enchanted weapon. The magic damage on enchanted weapons DOES NOT SCALE with any stat.
