why didn't the vita die in japan? is it just because of the convenience and abundance of anime tiddies in your pocket?

9a64ab  No.15953766

Because japan prefers portables because of influences from their culture and society.

what influences would those be?

Long trip on trains everyday and not having time at home to play consoles.

any place/setting that has a lot of commuting. portables have also alwayson popular with school kids and families with one (or no) television.

It didn't? Not trying to be snide, but I just assumed if it wasn't dead there, it'd at least be dying.

It was pushed as a standalone system in Japan, whereas here it was plugged as a PS3 peripheral.

>why didn't the vita die in japan?

I think a lot more smaller studios were able to make small titles that wouldn't gain much traction here. Everyone I know who has a vita really likes it by good games are rare. That is how I felt about the PSP, I really like mine the internet radio and media player aspects especially, but the top titles are forgettable though I enjoyed a few.

It's on the wane now of course (the Switch unsurprisingly is basically its successor), but Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore were basically the only countries where the Vita had any real kind of commercial success.

Japan had physical copies of games

That's literally it.

I recall that before the PS4 heavy hitters came out in Japan (Persona 5, Dragon Quest XI, FF15), the Vita hardware would often outsell the PS4 when considered on a week-by-week basis. Just look up Media Create Sales on Gematsu for the year 2014 or so. Even for multiplatform games having both PS4 and Vita versions, the Vita version often outsold the PS4 version for quite some time. This trend eventually waned around 2016 onwards.

Because it got support from developers and compared to the 3DS it was the only console that had more than just a smattering of games offered to the older crowds

I waited for years for a Vita2, but now I find myself debating the worth of a switch.

Handheld gaming is pretty much the only form of gaming they have now. The PS4 is dead.

So its either mobile phones, Vita or undocked Switch now.

Several nip devs are supporting switch alongside ps4

With how switch exploded in japan, it's possible they'll jump ship altogether. Add Sony cucking itself by censoring japanese stuff and you have a solid case for a switch.

I'm personally waiting for a hardware revision, like a "new" switch (>nintendo naming) or a mini switch that dumps the dock

6d5307  No.15954075

Is the vita any good as a moblie PS4? I wanted to buy it purely so if I'm away from home and I don't have to bring the console like some kind of sperg and I can fuck around with Devil May Cry or Warframe on the go.

Find me a gamecube without cracked vents, find me a DS without busted hinges, find me a 3DS without a flaked d-pad and broken shoulder buttons, find me a wii U with a working touchscreen…

The original Wii is the only reliable hardware they've made in two decades, yet you trust them to have made a reliable plastic portable transform-a-toy?

As in remote play? It sucks in optimal conditions, you're not gonna get anything of value for an action game away from home.

As for the game library itself, there's a vita general thread floating around that can recommend some serviceable games to play away from home.

Because the Vita was heavily supported by a big amount of small teams for a long time, only the big project teams were aiming for the PS4. There were also commercials airing on TV (just like vid related during Christmas 2016), and I recall Minecraft was the highest selling title on Vita in Japan.

>>15954056

better wait a year or two again, to wait the revision model and see how well the library fleshed out. Alongside with more mature hacks.

A Switch revision won't contain the RCM glitch.

Vitagen hasn't been made yet since the old one dropped off but you can read the archive of it here for helpful info.

Yeah definitely. There are some solid games on it but what it does well generally are games that people might have irrational fondness for, lewd titty games, VNs. Its library is extremely lopsided towards Japanese-type games. I'm honestly happy support for it was dropped shortly after their lewdness ban. It's largely untainted by that as a result.

>I recall Minecraft was the highest selling title on Vita in Japan.

Minecraft was in the top 20 selling list of all Japanese games for like a year straight. Shit was insanity.

feb9e9  No.15954273

What I'll miss the most about the Vita & the PSP is the sheer number of anime tie-in games. Sure, a ton of them were just mediocre kusoge cash-ins but there were quite a number of hidden gems like GochiUsa's Vita VN, or those Ro-Kyu-Bu games, or Oreimo's. Those games were also really great for learning Japanese since the level of language used was middle school and sometimes high school-tier, so playing them while learning new words was a very comfortable experience overall.
