ITT: Games with high replayability(Grand Theft Auto, C&C Renegade) and shortest-timespan ideas to implement with great results. (Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, flash games, PvP games)

-Easy to understand game editor with great versatility for creating differing genres.

-Multiple characters with unique gameplay mechanics.

-Buying levels from other games to insert into your own game.

-Taking 1 part of a game and stretching and expanding it into an entire sub-genre of its own. (Wall of deaths, vehicles, stealth levels, boss gauntlets)

Great base ideas where if you add a little content then it buffs the base and little content you added because the base idea was so amazing or the little content you added was so great in its own right.

Runescape, Puzzle Pirates, Pokemon, Secret of Mana, Warframe, puzzle games, point and clickers, detective games, pvp games, pvpe games, open world.

Terraria, but especially modded Minecraft is the opposite example. Huge amount of content for little results because the base idea is so mediocre, in Minecraft's case exceptionally below grade, which underwhelms all the content, which forces content makers to make ideas exceptionally amazing to even make a dent into the monotonous status quo hardcoded feel of the game.

Oh and I guess Ys Origin is ontopic.

>Three characters

>Every character plays differently, and has a different storyline and bosses while revealing more of the story and having "what if" scenarios

>Last character is originally an antagonist in the other two character's storylines, and is the real version of events

>hardest and easily the most fun of the three characters, even being more fun than Adol

>You've got like 6 difficulty settings changing minor stuff like enemy damage numbers and boss HP to boss attack patterns, aggressiveness and even changes up attack properties

>Once that's done a battle store is open where you can unlock some new stuff

>EX versions of all three characters where you can replay the campaigns again but your spells and attacks are beefed up because why not

>Arena style fights serving as combat challenges, where you can even fight bosses not present in the story mode as well as even play as Adol from the previous and subsequent games

>final unlockable is a schoolgirl outfit for one of the outfits where she uses a teddybear instead of an axe

I mean yeah all three games of that wonderful era of Ys do that but I like Origin the most.

As poor as the execution was I find dungeoneering to be one of the best ideas Runescape implemented post wildly neutering, mainly because finally there's something in this MMO that actually requires you to not only interact but heavily rely on both other players as well most of your skills, in addition to being a fairly engaging skill that can't be cheesed with money or afk.

Too bad it got old fast.

Just so it wasn't clear to you guys. OP is not so secretly a game dev, in a charge of a small team, who needs ideas and advice on how to create a good replayable game which doesn't take him 5 years worth of development time to create a Sonic-tier game where you rush through the game in 1-3 hour tops.

>>15946870

Check out Hoplite, it is one of the simplest games I've ever played but it really makes me think. After about 10 hours you will be able to always know what the right decision it is since the difficulty stems from the challenge of predicting your enemies moves many turns in advance, but since there's only 4 enemy types with very simple AI you eventually get used to it. I think you could expand the idea by making it more of an adventure game than a roguelite and introduce new enemies every hour or so to keep players on their toes. You also eventually discover objectively the best build get all of the shield bash upgrades. Not really sure if it'd be better to try and make it like an RPG with no randomization in the builds or remove the builds entirely, and I personally don't like the idea of procedural dungeons so it'd be nice to see some simple handcrafted dungeons. It would fit with the fact that you get used to enemy patterns, the game would not be fun to replay but it would be easy to make a lot of content for.

Alternatively you could crank the procedural generation up a notch and generate new enemy types to prevent the player from getting used to them. I think this would be a nightmare to balance though.

>>15950801

Why? Do you not want good games to be made? I feel like the problem with the industry is that they aren't willing to engage the people who actually play games and get advice/feedback, what OP is doing is right.

You seem to be conflating replayability with content OP. Don't be like some inarticulate hack reviewer. Replayability is literally whether playing the game thing over is fun again. Best way to develop replayability is having a deep scoring system or adaptive difficulty.

pic related. all because you can doesnt mean you should. for example. the 2nd to last thing they that was "dffering genres" was something called framefighter. Some super whale that gave the company thousands of dollars got this what if concept put into the game. the dev worked on it for 6 months. The only thing new about it was the ui everything else was used with pre existing assets. All the hits and kicks are slices of the already existing fist type weapon animations. the map which you cant change is the last big thing they did They waited for a rainyday to release the piece of shit. It was buggy when they previewed it was buggy at launch and its still buggy as shit right now. the playerbase stop playing because match making for it died after a single week.

>Multiple characters with unique gameplay mechanics

the frames are as complicated as assfaggot chars. they are made for retards. nothing different or unique about their powers. some are actually just reskins of other powers. and when they do want to get creative the power is usually absolutely useless in actual gameplay.

The point they're trying to make for King Knight is that more detail makes it more tedious to animate and makes his profile harder to read.

What you posted are backgrounds, which are what foreground elements(the player, or a boss in a video game) must contrast with in order to be readable.

They're still retarded because they claim to adhere to the limitations of the NES but they often admit to ignoring those limitations for some shitty reason like making Tyrone the perfect shade of diarrhea for those social-justice points.

>nothing different or unique about their powers

>>That's just a lie.

last frame has zephyrs defection but negates melee and its turned into a power meter (which the ui has been inverted since launch and they still havent fixed it). an aura base sleep equinox. "disarm charges" when you can just use liki and nuke everyones weapons out of their hands and exulted anything is already boring as the other hand full of frames with exulted shit.

Guarda's 1 is an ash teleport into a volt shield pick up which is duration based instead of energy drain tied to movement. throwing the bloodball is literally just lunaro they didnt even bother to hide that. 2 is basically shield charge placements but with health gen. 3 is a build in rage mod and depleting your own health is not new.4 its basically a nyx absorb going off.

people look at this and just say "wait there are other frames that can do all this but better". so people just use the older frames like smart people should. There has been only a few times where powers did feel unique but its fucking rare.

>Though it leaves out their bad habit of locking new frames and weapons behind new content at bad drop rates, forcing people to turn everything into a grind to get it as fast as possible and burn out on modes so badly they hate

non of the new vallas bounties are "perfectly good" if you just consider renamed existing gamemodes okay. do this action and wait for x amount of time defending something. I havent touched it since the event and its not a common gamemode now but it was very sluggish with escorting the defectors.
