Brilliant argument you have there, faggot. I didn't even necessarily say it was good, just that it depicts Medieval society in a better way than I've seen before. I tend to play mostly mods, because they tend to add much needed depth, like the LotR mod(s) (unless there's just one) or GoT mods. Otherwise, mods like L'Aigle or 1257 AD I play because I like the periods depicted and because it's a way for me to fight for righteous causes under a lord or king.

Making my way through Ys Seven since last time I played it on the PSP I didn't get past the third boss.
I think 60FPS really made the difference and I like the game, despite having a fair amount of issues with it, stemming from charge attacks being hell on my buttons/thumb(it would just be easier if not attacking for y milliseconds causes your next one to be a charge attack), some bosses being too shit(cave troll, Geis, that first optional boss you come across) and I think it's more focused on being an RPG than an action game, what with all the weapons and armor that make small incremental improvements instead of dedicated 5/6 tiers of armor/weaponry that make a huge difference and the borderline fetch quests. But that aside I'm really digging it, I'm up to the part where you're revisiting the villages and I'm digging all the different playstyles of the party.
How is Memories of Celceta? I don't believe I had emulated that.

I think some people don't enjoy the newer party style of Ys, and prefer the solo Adol experience with less shit going on in terms of equipment and extra mechanics. I can understand that at least, the older games were much simpler and focused primarily on action and exploration, while the newer games add in a ton of extra shit that may not be appealing to some.

Celceta still takes after the horrible party system from Seven which is a downgrade in every conceivable way from the Ark-era games.
The biggest culprit is the Flash Guard mechanic, which allows you to parry literally every kind of attack with the right timing, and in turn gives you extra SP and EXTRA and a temporary damage boost (Celceta also allowed you to stack FG with a Flash Dodge so on top of increased damage you could also get temporary invincibility), so there's no reason why you wouldn't want to. The impact FG had on how combat plays out was for the worse, because if you can parry every single attack with proper timing, then it means the defence game in combat has been completely reduced to standing still in front of an enemy and pressing a button at the right time. This also means that every attack in the game is in practice identical, because you have one universal way of dealing with them all. Projectiles? Just FG it lmao. Melee attacks? Just FG it lmao. Tornadoes? Just FG it lmao. Lava rising from the fucking ground and completely submerging you? Just FG it lmao. The end result? You just stand in front of the boss' face while spamming attack and Flash Guarding when need be.
In the Ark-era games you avoided attacks by running and jumping around like a madman, which also gave bosses and regular enemies a greater opportunity to differentiate themselves through their attack patterns since there can be a lot more variety in how to dodge attacks through movement and (double-)jumping than a simple timing challenge where you press a button at the right time. Oath and Origin had abilities which granted i-frames, but they were tied to a limited regenerating resource which couldn't be carelessly spammed. The enemies in party system games do have different attacks, in practice they just doesn't really matter.
The level and dungeon design also took a MASSIVE hit in Seven/Celceta. With the absence of jumping the element of platforming that was present in the Ark-era games to keep things fresh is non-existent in Seven/Celceta, and the replacements they offer aren't particularly enticing either. Levels in Seven and to a very large extent in Celceta all practically resemble pic related: repetitive monster gauntlets which are way too stretched out, hazards which require key items where the only challenge is just equipping them and holding forwards and unequipping them directly after, and barebones monster design where early game monsters behave exactly the same as endgame monsters with their damage and HP values turned up a notch. Compare any dungeon in Seven/Celceta to Illburns Ruins from Oath, and notice how Illburns Ruins has a palpable and slick sense of progression as the further you get in the dungeon you'll encounter stronger variants of enemy types you faced earlier with actually different and more challenging attacks, on top of the encounter designs themselves also getting harder over time. The worst part is that Seven/Celceta take twice as long to beat as the Ark-era games on average, but it feels more like that's achieved through padding and repetition.

A party system doesn't need to be bad, but it's just poorly implemented in Seven/Celceta.
The biggest issue: the playstyle of all party members are too identical. You will be mashing attack and spamming your skills for extra damage when the situation calls for it. Movement- and defense-wise all characters play exactly the same. There's way too much overlap in skills between all party members, as each party member will have some kind of launcher, an AoE attack, a single-target attack rush, a ranged attack, a Stinger, and a single-target attack with long wind-up. Every party member is too versatile in its skill set, so you're not encouraged to utilize multiple party members at once to make up for the weaknesses for individual party members.
The game forces you to use different party members by introducing enemies who can only be damaged by a weapon of a certain type which only some of your party has, which of course feel forced, as all you're doing at this point is putting the right shape in the right hole, which anyone can do. There's no depth involved here. The fact that different weapon types have different attack properties in terms of speed and range is barely played on with this system.
The party member AI is also practically useless, as for some reason the party members you don't control can still take damage from enemies, often resulting in situations where if the character you're controlling dies, you'll automatically get switched to the character who only has 1HP remaining, as party members controlled by AI can only take damage up to 1HP. It's not particularly fun having to deal with damage taken you had no control over. You can avoid this by telling the AI to act 'defensively', which makes them do nothing at all so they don't get hit, which is also not exactly ideal.
The gameplay of Seven and Celceta is near-identical (there's some minor changes to the system which don't matter that much in the grand scale) and Celceta has the dumb-ass map exploration thing so you have to hug walls for 100% completion to get your reward, but I wound up preferring Seven over Celceta because the story in Celceta is just vapid. I'm not much of a storyfag, and Ys is far from a storyfag game franchise, but I found there were more memorable moments in Seven than there were in Celceta. Seven's story was more clichéd with an air of classicism to it reminiscent of the old Dragon Quest games (the princess in Seven is literally the DQIV princess) whereas Celceta has a somewhat interesting amnesia plot which then dropped halfway through in favor of standard modern JRPG fare where the good guys are playing eternal catchup to the bad guys. Seven had the colosseum fights, the dragon fights, the Geis fight, and the whole final boss, which at least stood out more than anything in Celceta to me.

Despite all its flaws the combat's still got that Falcom bubble-wrap feel that makes mowing through cannon fodder immensely satisfying with short and concise gameplay loops and punchy VFX/SFX. When I first played it 4 years ago as my first Ys game I did like it, only when I replayed it last year did I really start to see the cracks and get immensely bored by it, so I don't think it's entirely without merit if I liked it the first time around.

I'll probably play it again at some point. Tears to Tiara was alright, but I was too lazy to finish it. It's also a strategy RPG, but battle is in real time. It's kind of hard to explain. The story was okay. But it wasn't nearly as good as Kamidori Alchemy Meister.
If you've never played Kamidori Alchemy Meister, and you like turn-based strategy games like Disgaea, then you are missing out. The gameplay is actually pretty fun. Feature-wise nothing truly bad has been added in the recent releases, so you don't have to worry about that. As far as mods go, most mods worth anything have been updated to at least 1.3-1.4.5 so you can't really go wrong there. That being said to each their own.

Bravely Default. I would only recommend this one if you enjoy having the game force grinding on you after a certain point of the game. Then after you think you've beaten or at least gotten to the climax of the game, you have to go through almost everything you just did in the game not once, but 4 more times. Only then can you fight the "final boss", with "you're not supposed to beat them until the plot allows you to" moments, and when you finally beat the boss, the game gives you the actual final boss before you finally beat the game
I'm not opposed to a long game, but not when the gameplay gets monotonous and boring later on due to the grinding you need to do that feels like it was just padding for the game. Only play if you REALLY enjoy JRPGs to the point of enduring shit like that

For AA games, 1 and 2 are pretty good. 1 has better story and progression, 2 has more content and combat challenges. I personally liked 2 more, though not enough to complete a second playthrough, which I only wanted to do to get the full content out of crucible. I decided that fuck going from the beginning every time I die. The only thing I wish that was changed in those is how combos are counted. I can't ever get high combos because the game stops counting if I stop attacking for a second.
3 is mediocre. My main issue is with how it punishes player agency in combat due to falling for memesouls combat, so there's not much point in actually attacking, as counters are much stronger. You eventually get some tools to alleviate those issues, but they never completely go away. Also, group combat is now horrible, especially group combat against parrying enemies. Other than that, story is worse than in either (and it's kind of a repeat of the first game), Fury character is weak and she can't into parkour. You can try Darksoulers, but I can't guarantee you'll like it.

Turn-based strategy science-fiction Civilization game. Colossal timewaster extraordinaire. Boot it up one afternoon and realize it's already dawn. It'll happen without you noticing it. The writing is fucking good too (unless you're playing Alien Crossfire). It's a fun game and I really like it.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. I've played through it four times with different builds and I've discovered new secrets every time. Even something as simple as not using a shield with a melee character completely changes the pace of play.

nuDoom. Here's a list of things that would improve it immensely:
>no glory meme kills
>didn't pretend to be a Doom game
>more enemies
>proper music

>SP generation is four times as fast
>Charge attacks are done automatically
>Dropping the 10 levels of stat increases for skills in favor of three levels that each add additional effects to a skill
>Also skills feel less like "spam the most damaging ability" and more "combo this into this into this" most of this stemming from abilities that freeze the screen seemingly only reserved for EXTRA attacks
>A quest system that isn't "fetch X amount of Y and then we'll give you some throwaway lore"
>Character so far(Ozma/Karna) pretty different to each other, not just with tehir attack frames but with how their abilities seem to focus on different shit(Adol is a jack of all trades with focus on knocking/launching enemies and then attacking them with his multi-hit skills, Duren focuses on launchers to setup for phoenix kick), Karna focusing of long range poking with poison dagger then going in and bursting down with homing knives or even her normal attacks that are pretty fast
>Bosses are more difficult by virtue of having more difficult attack patterns rather than just streching each boss into five minutes through having too much HP, even with the overleveled bosses they go down as fast as Origin/Felghana bosses
>Flash guard timing is a bit tighter and can't be spammed like with Seven, seems like it can only be done once
>Karna and Bumi are already superior to any other women in Ys Seven
<Music so far feels like a let down, especially since village dungeons share the same music track
<Bosses deal insane amounts of damage since they're always overleveled compared to you, with XP gain feeling so stunted it would take at least an hour of grinding per boss to get to their level
<Party AI took a hit with them either dealing a negligibly damage until they are at 1 hp and can't attack anymore at Offense mode or they just dodge and still get hit at defense mode
<used character gets twice the exp offhand characters get
<underwater sections
<an underwater boss where your attack and movement is gimped and slowed down, you can't use abilities and flash guard/move are disabled and you can't even dodge
<Flash guard and move can be used simultaneously
And yet despite all of this it's still fucking fun. I don't get it.

>Are the new desu sex game good?
Not really. You see, much of the greatness of the original was in its well-crafted and redpilled writing. The core of the plot was the multiple conspiracies combined, institutions manipulating society, and all that. The sequels were all muh augs, cyborg lives matter. Their devs didn't get the original. They are a hollow experience.
