Recently learned of the term Irony Poisoning; the state of having relied on irony for so long it inhibits your ability to be sincere. I hate to beat the horse of "Current year sucks due to soy bullshit", but it really feels like nowadays nobody wants to show actual love for something for fear of being mocked by peers, and have to justify it to themselves or others that they "don't really enjoy this" so they have a premise to indulge. It's kind of what happened with anime and Weeaboos: "Lol Japan with their traps and waifus, I don't really find their humor funny or their action scenes cool or or the girls cute or consider the writing good, I just laugh because it's so over the top. I'm not the type who finds this enjoyable, that would be cringe amirite?".
I'm sick of that. What games do you like? No conditions like how popular it is or genre or whatever, it just appeals to your interests and you're not afraid to say it.

There is lots of games that I sincerely enjoy, though the reasons vary.
Grandia because I really enjoyed the characters and soundtrack. Xenogears because I enjoyed most aspects really overall. I Remember playing the demo that came with parasite eve basically everyday until I eventually got it for Christmas, and it was everything I imagined it to be and more. From the characters, to the soundtrack, to the weekends me and my friends spend playing the vs arena. I really don’t think any game has the same memories and nostalgia goggles for me. thousand arms I liked the pseudo dating aspect. wild arms series minus 4 was a fantastic series i just flat out love. Jill of the jungle really introduced me to pc gaming in a lot of ways, even in delightful ega colour. Newer games like nier and neir automata strike a chord with me that I cant really explain.
Stardew Valley is another one. I Enjoy it but I dont know why, it has a lot of glaring problems and is easily broken, but sometimes I get into it and its the only thin I play for a week or two. Much like terraria, except I could point out why that game is actually good if I had to.

Vectorman is easily in my top 5 Genesis games. It's not the most groundbreaking platformer, but it's satisfactory enough that it's one of those perfect games you can breeze through in an afternoon. Unlimited SaGa is a victim of poor packaging and distribution decisions. Whereas Japan got a 100+ page manual explaining the nuances of every facet of gameplay, the rest of us got a tiny pamphlet that fails to properly explain the single most important facet of the game: selecting and interacting with objects in the environment.
While in a dungeon/wilderness area and sharing a space with something you want to interact with, go to the skill option and look at the top of the screen. The currently highlighted object or enemy is your current interaction target. Press left and right to pick a target and then select which skill to use to interact with it.

Growing up as an Adventure era Sonic fan I have long since pasted the point of giving a shit about what people think about the games I like.
Shadow the Hedgehog is one of my favorite games, period and nothing will ever change that, when I was 10 it was everything I could have ever wanted out a video game.
Recently I watched a video that had the perfectly description of the Shadow Game.
"That game is so try hard it actually goes all the way around to being fucking awesome, it's so far in one direction it breaks the dial and starts being awesome again."
It was as if Sonic team said

>Smash TV
It's been my go-to game for a good 25+ years. I've owned it on just about every system that it's come out on, homebrewed my DS just so I could load it up with some other emulators. This Summer, I'm going to put together a full MAME cabinet in my garage, and you'd better fucking believe I'm going to play the shit out of it how it should be played.
>GTA V
This has been another one of my 'go-to' games for the past few years, especially since it hit PC. Payday 2 aside, I feel like this game is as close as we'll probably get to something that resembles the movie Heat. Plus it's nice to just go on drives and fly around with bros.
Some anon dumped like $30b on me and my gaming crew pretty early into the game's launch, and we managed to launder it enough so R* wouldn't take it away, so we got to enjoy all of the offerings of the online portion and content, rent free. GTA should never be a grind, it should be played because it's fun. The moment playing this (or any) game becomes a chore, it stops being a game entirely.
>Cryptark
I've tried to make some threads about this game before. Basically an anti-gravity Metroid, take on contracts and go into creepy mechanical alien ships, and try to come out with as many kills and materials as possible while keeping to a contracting budget. It's some fun shit.

Also Morrowind. My favorite singleplay game ever made. I love everything about it, even the combat.

Where the fuck did nu-irony come from?
No, I'm serious. It's just here now, it's been here for years and nobody has bothered to even reference where they got it from. Usually everything we talk about has an origin point somewhere, but the concept of nu-irony just crept up here one day, presumably from the ether, and it was like it was around from the start. I think that it developed on social media sites, but this never seems to be brought up or referenced. No anon ever challenges nu-irony. When an anon posts a "tbh" or a "fam" it rarely goes unchallenged. That anon gets called a faggot and is told to go back to reddit or whatever. But it seems like every single anon has just accepted "unironically" as part of the natural lingo, never questioning it.
It's just so antithetical to even the concept of /v/. It's an incredibly passive and weak-willed response to criticism. To just go, "well I only enjoy it as a joke", shielding yourself from any liability for your opinions. Look, if you like something despite realizing that it has major problems then there's qualities in it that you still value. It has to have something that you like in it, otherwise you wouldn't like it, right? Just fucking own up to your tastes. You're anonymous, nothing will be tied back to you. I'm a fucking pussy and I think that nu-irony should die.
Seriously, this shit makes me crazy. It's like everybody on /v/ was MKUltra'd into just being fine with this shit, everybody but me. It's like I woke up one day and this site just flipped on it's head for this one single thing without cause or explanation. What the fuck is going on?

But I got to a point where I realize that I can like whatever the hell I want to like, because who actually gives a fuck.
Thanks to being a fan of the most shat on series of video games of all time, I was forced to learn the hard way that people have different opinion, likes, and tastes, then my own, and it's fine to listen to criticism so you can see other peoples point of view, and that nothing is perfect, but there is still a reason I enjoy what I enjoy, and even if i'm the only one in the world who likes a certain piece of media it's not like it matters, since it's just a piece of entertainment, and if it entertained me then as far as i'm concerned it did it's job.
Now when I see someone still shitting on the series, I'm just dismissive of it since if I wanted to I could come up with far better arguments that is actually constructive criticism.

The thing I remember the most from that game was the unique way it did its morality progression. Instead of your morality depending on choices in specific sequences or cutscenes, it always give you the missions as the morality choices allowing you to switch at any time. And the major thing is that each morality choice goal would actually leading you to a completely different level depending on the morality. It's not linear, you can choose to go bad even on the hero path and it drops you in a lesser good path. I was always interested in that mechanic and wondered if other games that had the morality gimmick tried that, because that shit was unique and engaging. Only downside is that the game forced you to repeat 5 times for different endings just to get the Final Story

While I get that can be bad if you just want say you beat the game,
I actually enjoy how much replayability it adds, It was certainly better then how Sonic Heroes handed things since the 4 teams you had to beat the game with were basically just difficulty settings, but even then I enjoyed that the game kept giving me more story to see while I continued to master it's mechanics and levels.

So videos like this don't bother me much, in fact I'm very thankful Sonic is so hated as its easy to find actual fans of the series and not faggots like OP described based just on a sentence or two.
The only tragedy is that Sega keeps listens to these cunts and is adamant about re-inventing the wheel every few years to appease them. Granted this lead to some novel games like Unleashed (My personal favorite 3D Sonic game) and Generations but more often than not leaves us with boring, half-baked messes like Colors, Lost World and Forces which try way too hard to pander to a certain crowd. Wisps were fine for one game, but they have no business coming back as a main stay of the series, when they completely ignore so many other interesting possibilities.
But as obviously made in 1 year Forces was, I hope it was mostly because of the circumstance that they sent too much time making the engine and had no time left for making the game. As choppy as Forces can be I still saw a hint of that ambition that Sonic Team used to have when it came to this series. There's no way they wanted to make the game without using Chaos as a boss once or Infinite just leaving randomly with no resolution to his story.
There were good aspects to Forces, it reminds me of 06, only nowhere even close to that level of ambition, but still. Sonic team needs to
A, get rid of the writers who only write the characters off of their stereotypes rather then their History, and B actually take the time finishing a goddamn game.

Sonic 06 really feels like it dealt a horrible damaging blow to the franchise. Not just for how it destroyed Sonic's (and SEGA to a lesser extent) reputation, but also because it's become such a taboo name that anything even resembling its design, even positives, is actively avoided like the plague. Writing that isn't constantly trying to play itself as a joke, characters that don't play exactly like Sonic, final bosses who aren't Eggman, and a steadfast refusal to engage in 3D level design that isn't "run on flat road with obstacles on it" makes me think they're at least unconsciously trying to make every game they make as much "unlike 06" as possible, and pigeonholing themselves as a result.
Heard they quietly retconned humans out recently and the new canon is this Sonic X-tier "Two worlds, one furry one human" stuff. How the fuck are they gonna explain Shadow and GUN?

It would be in SEGA's best interest to first fully separate Classic (2D) and Modern (3D) into their own separate game series. They are almost there, but they keep tacking Classic Sonic onto new games as an afterthought to appease nostalgiafags even if it always plays like hot garbage in their current 3D engine. Then, once the series are separated do a hard fucking reboot to the 3D games. Figure out what works (Adventure styled physics with more open maps and freeform gameplay/progression like Shadow would be GOTYAY imo) and what doesn't work (wisps, constant shifting to blocky 2D platforming) and go from there. The fluff/story part doesn't matter much to me but I would personally go for a DBZ like feeling with cartoony humans and anthros living side by side; that way they can easily explain Eggman and eventually throw in GUN, muh Maria and stuff from Unleashed if they want. With a style like that they can have a clean mix of cool and comedic moments instead of having the entire thing be some kind of ironic "so bad its good XD" mess of faggotry like they've been doing since 2010.
But they will never do this. Just keep appealing to ironic memefags and balding numales who only like the Genesis games because they were kids when it was out.

Most games I play I sincerely enjoy. I've always really liked Fire Emblem, even the new ones that anons decry as waifushit have some redeeming qualities in some measure. Silent Hill 1-3 are very gripping and it's hard to pull myself away and go to bed after I start playing one. They get everything right. Spiderman 2000 is still the Spiderman game with the best writing (not that there is much competition). Splatoon is fun.

I'm with you Anon. Mirror's Edge is a perfect game IMO. I don't wish it was longer because it's a great game to get the itch for and plow through in a few hours. That said Catalyst is dogshit. It's unbelievable how much they missed the fucking mark. They ignored the satisfying, snappy gameplay of the first with its carefully crafted, excellent level design and decided to instead focus on "parkour all over the city". It amounts to an empty open world full of dumbass side-quests.
Catalyst is a game that legitimately fell for the open-world meme. Do not buy it. I spent four dollars on it and still feel jewed.
As for a contribution to the thread about stuff I truly enjoy aside from Mirror's Edge I love Dishonored. I don't give a shit about all the "it's not a real stealth game" shit, I don't care what genre it's supposed to be. Dishonored allows me to do some goofy shit and really play around with it in a way other stealth games don't. People now are complaining about it being "too slow" of a platformer aside from Croc and having that automatically make it a bad game. I speedrun Banjo-Kazooie every year and I personally have no issue with the speed even compared to more acrobatic platformers like Mario 64. I'm not sure what their other arguments were, but I think some of it had to do with it being "too kiddie" and not being a mature game for mature gamers such as themselves. My guess is that they're Sonic autists or kids who grew up playing brown games on Xbox 360.
Banjo-Tooie I can at least see some argument with considering the backtracking and other elements, but even then I still adore that game as well. Pretty much any game on the N64 or Super Nintendo that's not trying to be realistic I have a great time with. PS1 and PS2 had some great titles too, but I got around to them fairly late. I really like the Ratchet and Clank series.

The only thing that matches the original is art direction of environments.

Origins and Legends are really ugh.
Almost every level is designed around beating it in a single cycle so rushing them always puts you just outside of hazard based downtime which is something that gets way too obvious in the later levels when you try their time trials.
Then the "Exploraton" is literally just seeing an obvious asset high or lower in the stage and doing a lame platforming puzzle.
Game looks absolutely gorgeous but the design of levels clearly wasn't given the same thought (Maybe a symptom of originally being planned as an episodic XBLA game)

I've played about every game in each series and can pretty much always find enjoyment in them. Future Tone has become one of my favorite games of all time, with my only complaint being the lack of a diva room. I like older solo Adol Ys style and the party based newer games about equally. I think the only thing I really hated in the series was in Ark with the final boss. You have to have all your swords upgraded or you're fucked, and you can't go back once you're in the final area so you can actually make the game unbeatable. Other than that I'd consider it one of the most consistently good series out there.

This is a game I always come back to, partly for nostalgia of playing with my brothers trying to mug the flash dealer constantly and beating up hookers, but in terms of gameplay I think it may be one of the best beat em ups ever made. Bottles, bricks, trashcans, bats, knives, the concrete itself, anything was fair game. Not to mention you can lead a little posse around your turf, stealing car radios while they watch your back, beating up rival gangs or hobos and kicking them until they vomit blood. Shit talking by the NPCs was excellent, all that 70s jive talking slang fit the mood perfectly. Hub area which is your gang hideout where you can train, play mini games and prologue missions, and listen to the radio where that negress with the ruby red lips talks about your latest exploits. The soundtrack that blares through is funky as hell disco jams and other assorted jams from that era, suits the mood and never gets tiring to listen to. The ambient tracks have that perfect inner city night crawler vibe to them, and the fighting tracks are explosive and fit well with the chaotic action.
Speaking on the story itself, it might be one of the only good movie adaptions I’ve ever played excluding Star Wars games. It takes what was already a bretty good film and expands the fuck out of it, providing an actual backstory to most of the characters and giving you a prelude to the events of the movie, I think they even got a majority of the actors to come back and do their voice lines for the game. I could go on forever about this game because I love it so, I’m sure other anons in here appreciate this game as well and it’s not objectively hated but if there was something wrong with it I wouldn’t give a fuck because of everything it does right.

Why do people need to shit on other people for having different gaming tastes? As I've lurked here I've come to notice that this board hates about every new game, doesn't matter if it's actually good, doesn't matter if it's not exploiting the consumer and is good value for the buck. What happens is everyone hates the game, then a few anons say they like it and get shitted on, then a few more anons who kept quiet finally realized they weren't alone in liking X game and like it too. I'm thinking of Nier Automata or Persona 5, now it seems like half the board likes those games, but back when they first came out everyone was getting shit on for liking them. 4v is cucked in a lot of ways but at least the tastes are more balanced there. I honestly wonder if it's because the population here is so much less so it's just like 12 faggots hating everything so everyone keeps quiet to not rock the boat until some autistic anon says he doesn't give a fuck.

I know the feeling of Anon's refusing to believe a game is/will be good.
I waited 10 years for Devil May Cry 5 to be announced and it looks to be everything a fan would hope it would be, save for the art-style change being subjective, yet it feels like anons didn't stop constantly shitting on it and calling it DmC2 until this month, which is vastly underestimating how poor DmC was.
It's probably just shitposters for the most part, they tend to go away when the game is actually proven to be good and anons start having actual discussion.

you'll want the PC version; the PS3 version has limited VA for the hero (the result of a dispute over whether to make him a silent protagonist) and it's really jarring to hear everyone but him talk. XSEED went nuts with the PC version, giving him a full voice track for every relevant conversation

Sure, they've got their drawbacks (1 especially with the fucking Library levels), but even at the time they came out they were nowhere near the worst games in existence.

I can understand when you put it that way, but most of the complaints I see are whining about the fanbase.
Halo 1 also didn't have grenade spam (what I assume you mean by pocket sand grenades) or regenerating health, but it's still worth playing as far as I'm concerned.
Also, by the time 3 rolled around Bungie seemed to have acquired a shaky sense of balance in regards to all of that shit (not perfect, shaky, you could still abuse some shit if you tried)
For example grenade spam wasn't nearly as bad on legendary, but at the same time noob combos like plasma pistol and SMG weren't as effective against shielded enemies.
Halo 2 was the worst in this regard, since on 2's legendary difficulty you were utterly fucked for the first few levels if you didn't specifically abuse those combos to rape everyone around you before they could pepper you with plasma grenades, and even then there was no guarantee a grunt wouldn't panic and ackbar your ass into the next dimension.

Let me expand on that:
>0 layers
Saying something and meaning it.
>1 layers
Saying something you don't actually believe and being obvious enough about it that most others can tell. Also known as sarcasm.
>2 layers
Saying something that makes it sound like you don't actually believe what you're saying, while (secretly) actually believing it; your true intentions only being somewhat clear to those who share your beliefs and have experience operating on this level of irony. Irony this deep often loops back on itself infinitely where people do something ironically where said thing was an ironic response to something ironic to something ironic to something ironic etc., but the underlying motivation remains the same.
E.g. trying to pass off something as a joke while sincerely meaning it
>3 layers
Saying something you don't actually believe to such a degree where nobody can really tell whether you are being sincere or not. Like someone who acts like a total caricature but at the same time appears like he's completely serious. Primarily done to mock the worldview of those you are talking to by having them accept your escalating absurdity, which they accept so you can fit in their worldview since they believe you are a sincere manifestation or a result of those views.
E.g. Sam Hyde
>4 layers
Saying something you don't actually believe and trying to be obvious enough about it to fool others into thinking you're being ironic, where the intent is simply to have others guessing whether you are being ironic or not. Primarily done to mock everyone but yourself.
>5 layers
Saying something with zero intrinsic meaning or a complete non sequitur which nobody, not even yourself, can grasp the meaning or even the intent of anymore. Irony at this level is primarily used as a defense mechanism to obfuscate a truth that concerns you. After all, you're only being ironic. It doesn't really apply to you if you didn't actually mean it. Nothing does. Similar to two layers of irony, except that instead of shielding the things you say from criticism you shield yourself entirely from criticism through irony. In other words: running away.
>6 layers
Saying something that appears like you don't actually believe it, and something you think you don't believe it, but secretly actually do believe it, as a result of unresolved conflicting inner beliefs. You're telling yourself that you don't like this thing, that you only like it "ironically", but at the same time your relation to it can't be described by outsiders as anything but clearly OBSESSED. In other words: lying to yourself.
>7 layers
At this point you no longer really know why you say the things you say, or whether what you say actually means something. You hear new ideas and memes, and subconsciously find yourself repeating them, to the point where it has become second nature. You know you used to do everything out of irony, but now, now you don't even think about it. When called out on it you will say you're being ironic, without really knowing what exactly makes it ironic. However, you do know that everyone in your community is doing the same thing, so you merely do as everyone does. Also known as: the destruction of the self.
>∞ layers
???????
>ironic singularity
Infinite irony is not achievable. The sheer mass of ironic intent will eventually collapse upon its own gravitational field and create an ironic singularity.
Once the ironic singularity is formed, the rate of irony produced by it is constantly oscillating between positive infinity and negative infinity. Some scholars refer to phenomenon this as Schrödinger's Irony. The person being ironic and the observer both can't know for sure whether the thing that's being ironically said is in fact the truth or just a joke, or both.
However, in practice the human mind cannot fully comprehend irony this deep, so they will forgo gauging the intent of whether the person creating an ironic singularity is being ironic or not, and just write them off as a retard instead.
>-1 layers
Saying something you sincerely mean with the full knowledge that everyone else around you will think you're joking, the sheer sincerity of it making the rest cringe in disgust and hidden fear, for after years of cocooning themselves in the web of irony they can no longer imagine what it is like to sincerely say what you believe.
Basically, the deeper you get, the further away you get from the truth.

I played the first few minutes of this one and it really felt like more of the same, the art is better, the gameplay tries to be deeper, but not really, and the whole "first act" is almost identical: Puzzle-solving, world exposition and a "bad guy" who tells bad jokes. I…I don't know. I just got gripped from the second I played it.
Note that might explain everything: I only just heard how great the FF series was. 6, 7, 10 [either no one talked about 9 or I put it in a memory hole because I could not process FF9 existing somehow. 8 didn't even know about was because I genuinely didn't bother with it at all for some reason.I guess it was overshadowed at the realization that 9 existed and I genuinely didn't mentally process it]
So I figured I might as well pick it up. On a whim. People said it was a good series. I knew it had no continuity I just knew people praised each entry. But I only heard hype for the games potential release so when it was I didn't bother reading reviews and just bought it like a young naive retard.
And I was blown away by the style, detail, music, and gameplay. At the time I had never EVER touched an MMO. Period. I had no consistent internet so MMO's never existed to me. So the game was interesting.
As a gamer. I was incredibly isolated in my younger years [7-15]. I only learned of online stuff via popular sites/google searches back in the day. So I only saw screenshots/early youtube vids. So I was entranced.
Got my hands on it. AND IT WAS GOD-TIER. Played and beat the shit out of that game. Musically, visually, story-ly. I loved it. And wondered at a young age why the cooler races weren't playable. [I was a huge bangaa fan. So I loved any travelling bangaa hanging around.]
tl;dr - FF12 was only god-tier was because it was my first mmo game ever. And taught me the value of programming my own AI. So every AI in games since I figured out how to exploit the shit out of.
This lead to enhancing my experience with KH1 AI being good in my eyes specifically because I knew exactly how the AI functioned and exploited the shit out of it with the customization.

FFTA - Fucking gr8. Not as dark or as deep as FFT but I enjoyed it for the lighthearted fare that it was. Didn't particularly care about the characters as much as the world was quite nice. My autistic brain didn't even register that it was all fake until the very end. Wasn't very happy about that.
FFTA2 was objectively better mechanically. But I didn't know the old world was fake at this point. So I just was upset why the old game never even hinted at all these cool new places and races. Still enjoyed it whole heartedly though.
At this point I had played and beat FFT and Tactics Ogre :Let us cling Together. I kinda knew those two games weren't as hardcore story wise. But only in terms of story. Spoilers never bothered me. Only the hope that I was lied to when it came to bad ends did I felt the same level of investment. Strangely you could fully spoil the ending to a good RPG to my old self and he'd still get fully engrossed simply because he cannot believe a bad/retarded ending could possibly happen. So he'd still be surprised.
So FFTA+A2 where fun.I enjoyed myself but wasn't as engrossed. Mostly because I got the ghist of they where whole different beasts. And also because I played FFTA first. THEN played FFT.
Like a lot of classics I played in a vacuum due to my lack of consistent internet. So most of my time I spent old school/mostly abandoned fansites, and normalfag tier shit. But my interest in old school shit was cemented was properly cemented with a sega genesis I got as a birthday present during the end of the PSone era.
And getting a PS2 during the early PS3 era. I never was ahead of the times nor online in private due to how poor I was.

Not that anon obviously but I never hated 12, In fact I appreciated it's big "open world" map you got to explore. The lack of map was one of the things I hated most about 10 (aside from the unlikable characters, shitty story and voice acting). The combat wasn't really that bad, it was real time turn based combat that seemed like a natrual evolution for the series. Controlling the party was still available even though Gambits where encouraged they where not necessary and I often petered just to directly command each character.
>thought 10 was okay at the time
I genuenly hated 10 when it was released. And I even enjoyed FF9 but 10 was a bridge too far.
>gave 10 another chance and its a fun game
You are clearly a Squaresoft Shill, because nobody could honestly consider 10 a good game.
>FF12 felt like an MMO
Considering the only real contemporary MMO's out when 12 was produced was WOW and Everquest, I often find this critique to be a bit shallow. It's as if you never really tried to understand the games mechanics and just heird one of your favorite game reviewers say this and chose to repeat it tirelessly without thought. In fact I often like to think it was the FF10 fags (whom where the kiddo's who's first FF was 7) who helped doom the Final Fantasy franchise because they helped encourage the mediocrity by discouraging good innovations by valuing tumblr tier fanfiction and FMV's over game-play.
this is basically how it went down (according to me)
>FF7 was designed to attract a larger audience and used FMV's to sell itself to normalfags
>FF8 was cashing in on FF7 but pushed graphics over gameplay
>FF9 was FF7 but with a "return to tradition" came out at the end of the PS1 so nobody really played it and Squaresoft considered Traditionalism a flop
>FF10 Square doubled down on Muh Graphics, Muh Story and FMV's sacrificing more game-play to cater to the normalfags
>around this time the Normalfags get cancer and become Otherkin
>FF12 is an attempt to innovate the series. Square realizes the formula in 10 was stagnant because the traditional fans rejected it. But 12 is a flop because the Normalfags are too stupid to understand its complexity and reject it because its not a trashy watered down version of FF7
>FF13 is just a trashy watered down version of FF7 that doubles down on the trashy casualization game design philosophy of FF10
>After 13 x3 Square realizes they fucked up and tries to innovate again with FF15
>FF15 would have been great but some executive decides to strip out the combat because a Game reviewer who loves FF10 (who was an Otherkin Furfag and identified with Red XIII) cried that combat wasn't inclusive enough.
and that is why FF15 could have been the best FF ever but it wasn't and its all because of people like (you)

I really don't think this is the case here. Especially since any game can throw in some gay couple that takes a couple of miliseconds of screentime and get entire threads worth of derailing political commentary from faggot political typwads like you.
Undertale was ok at beast. WIth faggots in it being portrayed in any amount of positive light with decent screen time relative to the entire rest of the game. Even if it where straight couples it would still have been a mild cringe fest. The problem isn't the agenda it's the fact an ok game is being praised for being on par with mother 2 and 3. And it added nothing of value to such games outside of a mildly interesting defense phase to RPG's.
Even in Deltarune he's yet to fix how fucking underwhelming actually fighting is. And that alone just shows his ineptitude.

I'm an anon who likes 10 for it's gameplay but can understand why people hate the fuck out of the characters and story. I don't know how you think the gameplay is totally irredemable when it has a rigid turn based gameplay, characters can swap out in and out of the fly, and you can plan multiple moves ahead with the line order bar shown? I also don't know how 10 is like 13 when 13 is just use ravager and commando combo until they go break mode and then keep kicking them down until they're dead. you really aren't incitivised to use buffs until you fight cid; besides that I really didn't use saboteur, synthesizer, and sentinel. I find my gripes with the 13 combat system more inline with 12 because there are area of effect attacks you can't control where you dodge, limited party size (3 instead of 4 or 5), and automating party members when it is clear you don't have enough time to use them in "real time" like they tried to push. I'm still giving 12 that criticism even though you can pause because the gambit is limited and pausing to choose actions is more tedious than the 1-10 FF with it's clusterfuck of menus.
>FF15 would have been great but some executive decides to strip out the combat because a Game reviewer who loves FF10 (who was an Otherkin Furfag and identified with Red XIII) cried that combat wasn't inclusive enough.
>and that is why FF15 could have been the best FF ever but it wasn't and its all because of people like (you)
You're going too far with that claim. FFXV is shit because SE is shit and they didn't want anybody who perferred traditional or even rtwp gameplay. Just the "Majority" of hype drones who like open world action games and never liked SE in the first place

because turn based combat in and of itself doesn't inherently make a good JRPG combat. Even as early as FF4 square was playing with ways to break out of the turn based mold with ATB and you can see the same influences in Chrono Trigger. The fact that 10 had turn based combat is just because they where playing it safe. Playing it safe is what leads to games like 13 (which was also turn based). Even FF15 suffers because they play it safe. The whole reason they got rid of the maps in 10 is because they didn't want normalfags to get lost.
>You're going too far with that claim
no because the only reason SE is enabled to create shit is because the Fan base are casual normalfags who eat shit like FF10. The fact that the normalfags who are raised on FF10 tripe turned into perverted LARPing otherkin is immaterial to the fact that they where the casual normalfags that executives where trying to cater to when they made the games more accessible and inclusive to a wider audience of non gamers. The kiddos you see a Anime conventions dressed up like their favorite final fantasy character are normal fags. Cosplay and fanfiction is the cancer you get when you invite normalfags into a fan base.

I'm still not seeing how 10 was a direct inspiration for 13 and in turn 15. Those two are very different gameplay systems and 13 and 15 really started that huge shift towards "real time action" with their battle systems that was supposed to bring in the wider audience.

12 was caught up in Square's merger with Enix, and son suits started pestering Matsuno to switch the main character from Basch to Vaan. Further continued meddling caused Matsuno to leave the project, and in his place Autismo Kawazu took over as a supervisor to see the project was completed.
FFXIII and XV were a whole other level of problems, with Square struggling to adjust to new consoles to develop for, and eventually the whole "Fabula Nova Crystalis" trilogy idea came apart as it was obvious only FFXIII could be delivered, with FFXIII Agito becomming Type 0 and Versus XIII becoming XV. I think XIII-2 and 3 were meant to be a compromise of trying to make an FF13 trilogy while spending as little money possible.

Bad:

Complete disappointment:
* Layers of Fear (turns out it's a spooky themed walking simulator for kids with crippling ADHD because it doesn't even try to earn more than one or two of its billion pathetic and predictable attempts at scares)
Currently trying out Gleaner Heights and still undecided. The UI is certainly a dumpster fire but I can overlook that if the game gets interesting soon.

No they aren't they are just the same formula of casualization. If A= {1,2,3,4,5}, B= {1,2,3,4}, C= {1,2,3} etc. there is a clear trend. Where each consecutive letter strips out a digit form the initial set A. Likewise 13 and 15 just fallow the casualization trend set by FF7. It was only FF110 that this trend of casualization became so apparent that only soysoaked squaresoftdrones tolerated it. Remember the info-graphic called "degradation of a fanbase". Well FF10 was panel seven, FF7 was panel 4. FF13 and FF15 exist because FF10 was a huge financial success and it taught Square that gameplay doesn't matter, all that matters is catering to normalfags aka Weeaboo on tumblr and girls who like to cosplay.

The whole time I was thinking "Yeah, I can see what they were going for there." I think Sonic Team had big ideas, but little experience to realise it with. I would love to see a remake that gives the idea behind the game some justice.
Or just a standalone Big the Cat fishing game. Sega already do Pro Bass Fishing games, so they could just copy what they do, stick Big in some weird and comfy locations and just let you chill out and fish. Undertale came out with a fresh spin on RPGs by mixing it up with bullet hell mechanics, backed up with some of the most FIRE tracks of the year and charming characters that make me wish I could just hang out with them and see what other hijinks they get up to. Excluding the gay lizard, of course
Deltarune took this and made it way fucking better. Three characters for more strategic and interesing fights, more in-world bullet hell stuff and A FUCKING RUN BUTTON.
Yeah, sure, the tumblr side of the fanbase is the most cancerous thing from a game this side of Sonic the Hedgehog's fans (not all of you guys, you know which ones I'm talking about) but it doesn't affect what's actually in the game.
The whole "pacifism is the only way you're not monster" schtick in UT was contrived, but it is what it is. Got too caught up in its own hype for its own good.
I remember when I first heard about Undertale. The demo dropped and there was a couple threads about it, so I played it and loved it. It was the only game in so long that I was genuinely ecxited to wait for. Two and a half years later it came out and Tumblr took three days to ruin it and I had never been so pissed off in all my life.

Well when 10 was released I was still a kid so I only played it at my friends house, I was impressed by the graphics, the music, and the summons. I enjoyed the battle system, and some of the characters (riku, Auron, the idea of the Al-Bhed being repressed by idiots (I'm a Christian btw so it's not an anti-religion thing) I just related to the idea of a controlling society. I got about 18 hours into it at my friends house, to the calm lands. When I picked up the HD remake I realized how good the sphere grid system was once they changed it in the final mix to let you go anywhere, it's basically another unique take on the Jobs system. I also loved x-2 because despite the absolute garbage tier stories and characters (usually those matter a LOT to me) I fucking loved the dress sphere system, because once again it reminded me of a fresh take on the jobs system. I grew up playing FFT so I had a really strong love for the job system. I was too young and missed out on FFV. The other thing I realized I really liked about 10 in the hd remake was the summon system, watching an animation playout gets old after a few times, the ff8 button mashing thing was retarded, I like the idea of controlling your summon, I wish they could have taken the concept even farther, maybe implemented ff8's summon leveling system with ff10's control a summon system, but maybe that's veering too far into pokemon like gameplay which is stale for me.
Also regarding ff12 I think I had just gotten into highschool around that time, I didn't look up reviews back then I used to go to gamefaqs for guides and a site called CheatCC (I think) as well. My friend had gotten me to play WoW with him and was paying my subscription, I absolutely hated the gameplay of that game, I did enjoy playing it though because we'd play together and I loved the lore of Warcraft and exploring the world. The story and characters of 12 started out cool with that opening cutscene I thought it would be something like 4, but then I got maybe a few hours into and I hated all the characters, nothing was happening in the main plot, the quest boards were telling me to collect bear asses and kill 10 of x. Felt like WoW but without my friend and without a world I cared about. Like I said though I only played a few hours and maybe I was just burnout on wow, and maybe my tasted have changed, so I do want to give it another shot. But no my opinion didn't come from some game website, it came from my personal experience with WoW and with earlier FF's. Also I'm not a shill I never said FF10 was good, I said it was fun at parts, you even quoted that. Anyway thanks for the info about 12 anon.

Oh now I see why you're not even trying to argument, you've already shown you're just on an autistic crusade against FF10 for some reason.
10 didn't casualize gameplay, it takes a moderate amount of thinking to not get your shit fucked which is more than half the franchise requires up to that point in time and it also manages to discourage blind grinding by making it very involved and locking potential progress until certain points in the game which is even rarer since most FF don't even try to discourage grinding, FF8 had the better grinding system regardless of what autists say about it, the single fact that you can max out a specific spell in a single battle which means you cut all the running around and watching loading screens from the equation not to mention the ability to completely bypass it through cards and item moddingis actually really nice and unless you go turbo autistic with cards and item modding it's hard to become completely overpowered as fuck.
The sphere grid allows for some pretty good level of customization over your party or playing the roles completely straight right until the last boss, which leads to people having very different experiences with the game and for experienced player to autistically minmax it both of which are a good thing.
The actual lowpoint of the gameplay is the postgame because it basically becomes spamming the same handful of moves like what happens in the vast majority of the rest of the franchise except on those other game that's the majority of the game (bonus point for 8 which is literally spam the one move throughout the game), having a situation where spamming a few moves can work if it's a sort of postgame thing where it's mostly a reward for completing most of the content or something but in 10's case it's the only viable strategy because the postgame content is just fucking retarded and even breaks the game systems which I admit could have been neat for a gotcha moment once or twice but not a certain game over at the end of a very long battle.
The lack of worldmap is regrettable especially after what 9 did with it but if you're not gonna do something special with it like 9 and to some extent 6 then it might as well not be there.
I'm not even gonna argue about the story / characters / fanbase, it's fucked and you can't fix it. but none of that is gonna stop me from enjoying the gameplay if it's fine
ATB is a system that punishes you for trying to think up your strategy while in battle which inevitably leads to player being lazy and going back to spamming the same shit over and over again like you're not even playing the game but instead mashing through the combat like you're mashing through textboxes, at no point can it do anything better than a turn based system except push a sense of urgency while playing where there never should be one because that makes the game feel better to casuals.
And don't even get me started on the "AI controls your partners within loose parameter " shit the franchise tried after, 12 did it well enough but you don't have access to enough control over it early on so it's not great until you do, 13 from the little I played was far worse since if I understood it right it's basically press button to change role in the party (role may or may not come with dumb AI that will fuck you over), point is if you're gonna make me watch my player chars do things without direct control at-least give me some autistic level of control over their AIs or fuck off.
On that note even the best FF is just okay at best (or they do one thing well and fuck up the rest) and only people who only ever played FF would argue otherwise.
And don't delude yourself into thinking the franchise wasn't gonna turn to shit regardless, any franchise that is aware of it's worldwide audience turns to shit and FF was already aware of that back with 7, it's actually surprisng we got stuff like 9 and 12 at all.

Even if you're used to the usual SaGa bullshit you'll be confused.
Still an amazing game with an amazing soundtrack and lots of hidden depth. At the very least, people who are interested but can't handle the frustration of playing it properly should try it again on an emulator. Save states make a huge difference when so much of the game is RNG-based.

Collecting praise is fun, and just finding bits of the world to interact with the brush can eat up some time (gotta bloom all those damn trees and feed the animals). The combat's a bit too easy, and the hand-holding is annoying, but the locales, aesthetic, and characters have me coming back to this game every few years.
Luigi's Mansion is just straight up the best damn virtual crack out there. The vacuum mechanics just feel great. The *ting* sound of the ghosts when you hit them with your flashlight, that "just right" amount of resistance they give you when they try to flee, the rising pitch of the health counter as you suck them up, and finally the satisfying *pop* of slamming them into your vacuum. Every step in that process is a small hit of dopamine I swear, Nintendo knew what they were doing. Sniffing out cash in all the objects around the mansion offer these small hits as well, your constantly being led through the mansion by it. Plus it's a pretty short game, so it's really easy to run in an afternoon. Just a really solid experience from start to finish.

I put 200 hours into Peacewalker, if you've got friends the co-op can keep you entertained for quite some time. Also the difficulty of the endgame missions were a bitch, Custom Peacewalker can not be solo'd. Finally, there's just something about growing Mother Base that's really addicting. PMC Manager sim when?

The amount of effort that AV and Sega put into this game is impressive. All the unique music and shit I think is really cool. Controlling your machine feels great, and sliding around corners at insane speeds while the screen blurs is fucking sick.

This is basically the way that people who start off being ironic end up coming across as if they actually mean it and appear to be 0 layer idiots.
Don't let yourself become this.

I've played through MGS4 12 times and probably still would be playing it now if I could find my PS3. I understand why a lot of people consider it the weakest of the bunch but I've always loved it.
Likewise, I know most(?) people consider Jedi Academy to be a step down from Jedi Outcast, but I just don't enjoy the latter as much. Jedi Academy's cheats have made for some of the most fun I've ever had in a game. As a kid I always used to spawn so much shit that my PC would end up crashing.

Also, this. It scratches my cowboy itch, I find the hunting pretty relaxing and I enjoy exploring its world. It's huge but the content feels relatively dense compared to most other big budget open world games I've played. I wish you could shoot while dodging like in Max Payne, though.
