The PS1 is Satan's gift to humanity.

You turn it on and the bootup audio sounds like it's opening a portal to hell and demons are licking at your soul, the only thing stopping you from bolting out of the room is a few chimes to put you at ease. Then the game starts, and whether it's Vagrant Story, Chase the Express, Final Fantasy VII or Chrono Cross the ever present feeling of unease remains. No matter how bright and colourful a PS1 game tries to be, just under the surface there's an almost overbearing sense of dread that you never really learn to tolerate. God help you if it's Tenchu, Kings Field or something equally dark and foreboding you're playing because the feeling of dread is now ten times what it usually is. But still, you can't stop playing. You can't look away, like a gore splattered car crash you can't help but stare, enraptured by it all. There's some magic spell at work here.

When you're playing the PS1 you feel like you could look out the window at any minute and see that 50 years have passed and all you knew is in ruins. It's some spooky ass shit but it's also the greatest console ever made. Nothing before or since has gripped me as hard as the PS1 and its library has for the past 23 years. Please post your favourite PS1 games or memories of playing it.

It's like you copied some zero-effort Buzzfeed clickbait or tumblr post. Simply awful.

You search the game cover art on its own and it looks fine.

You add the PS1 logo and somehow it looks horrifying now.

I remember trying to learn Abe's Exoddus controls before I even knew how to read. I remember the gruesome deaths in Heart of Darkness of a boy who was older than me.

These were children's games.

So

>we

can all agree that PS1 was never good anyway?

A good 90% of the faggots that commented on my ancient video of the PSX boot sequence were reciting retarded shit like in the OP. Fear of the PlayStation is a forced meme, like fear of clowns.

You are either too young to be born when the PS1 came out, or you were too old already to experience childhood fear.

What people don't understand is that for children anxiousness = fear. It's not scary in itself, but many things of the PS1 were very… uncanny, thus for a 4 year old it would translate into fear.

Always loved the boot sound as a kid, first I've heard that it spooked people.

Me neither. I have never heard of anybody being afraid of the PS1 audio or of the console itself.

I envy the childhood you had, where you could be frightened by a goddamn bass roll on a television. When I was 4, the Intellivision was brand new, and I believe the only thing I was afraid of was the venomous spiders that liked to sneak into the house, after having been bitten by one.

Yeah the PS1 boot sound was really comforting for me as a child. Everytime i still turn on my old PS1 its fucking great. What a gay meme about it being scary.

The boot sound was a mysterious kind of sound, something out of this world not something you hear on a day to day basis.

Watch out! The best 5th-gen console is falling from a 50-story building!

>direct hit on Playstation, crushing it to smithereens

>Saturn still plays fine because it's a fucking tank

>Console war sans bullshit, only victory

>Satanists btfo

ps1 has maybe five good games

ff7,8,9 and xenogears

can't think of the fifth one

For me it was magic and enlightenment. It was sweet Sony that rescued me from the clutches of Nintendo.

c9d641  No.15917622

You'd have to be a massive homo to be scared of the PS1 boot up sound, to me it always sounded mysterious, not scary.

I got that feeling back then. My parents bought me a really scratched up copy of Skullmonkeys, with all kinds of weird glitches but still playable. Whenever I started it up, it would usually freeze and play the first 10 seconds of the intro on repeat- with choppy audio and stuttering. "A B-A-A-D-D-D m-m-m-maaan-n-n-n fell fro-o-o-o-omm the ss-s-sky" and a claymation skeleton really slowly falling through a void and screaming. Namco museum games could also be weird during the parts where you are able to explore, it reminds me a lot of that japanese LSD game. The graphics from early 3D games just gave them that effect.

Maybe if you were a coward, but I thought the boot screen to be the coolest thing as a kid. Made me think I was going to play some futuristic space adventure.
