Octoling stuff was a little too late into development to make it, seeing how Sakurai & co. began work in 2015 (also why Rex didn't make the cut). Splatoon 2 only got representation in Lil' Judd added to the Moray Towers stage and some music (all intitial music from 2) and some BMPs. Mind you, adding Echoes later would be relatively easier, but it wouldn't be part of that paid DLC since Sakurai promised no Echoes in those 5. That isn't to say that an Echo can arrive for free later, but you never know. Smash 4 got a few freebies, namely a free Mii outfit of K.K. and 3DS got Duck Hunt stage added in an update. A free new character is a bit reaching, but Echoes could a a tad different as one anniversary thank you, kinda like Medli in Hyrule Warriors. Who knows.

I'm just going by the series' popularity. In fact, I feel it might be more difficult to develop Octo Echoes out of obligation to not just make a simple model swap and go all in on the design. This would mean all unique outfits, male and female, some item changes like Octobrush and Octo Shots and possibly changing the Final Smash to the Sting Ray since no Killer Wail in Splat2, stuff more Chrom or Dark Pit than a Dark Samus or Daisy. Namely it'd be modeling those 8 outfits from 2 base designs as a lot of work for an Echo set that ultimately might be too much for a freebie, especially with how popular Splatoon is. It would be a ton of work for leaving money on the table.

The issue with Dragon Quest stuff is the amount of hands involved. We've already seen how stingy Square is, even now with 3rd Party Mii costumes removed so not even Geno or Chocobo stuff. Now add to that Yuji Horii's ARMOR PROJECT, Akira Toriyama's BIRD STUDIO, and Koichi Sugiyama for the music (something that's been a burden for many US releases of DQ games for the orchestra rights) to the long list of copyrights. It's not impossible, but it's many hurdles to cross, and up to many people playing ball and getting their money, and whether Nintendo can handle the dealings. Remember, Sakurai said Nintendo gave him a list, mostly since it'll expede the legal issues by knowing what cards they can have on the table, which we saw Atlus and all was willing to cooperate before going through.

I don't see what "bad habits" it could cause. The mode is just entirely stat based anyway. You just get the spirits you need to cheese through the matches. Every fucking fight is either insanely easy, or literally impossible until you get the stats for it. The only saving grace is some of the fights are kind of cute, but that hardly makes up for the shit gameplay. If I complete it, it'll just be for the main menu music change option.

It should be able to be mapped as the "Smash button" or maybe it unleashes the final smash. Anything would be better then it being another jump that can be accidentally hit. Recovery is a big part of the game and being cool under pressure when you are getting punted off screen is half the challenge. Panicking and hitting the wrong buttons is one of my biggest shortcomings when the chaotic action gets too confusing. Personally, I wish all the buttons somewhat correlated to the respective games that the character came from. It would be way cooler if mega man controlled like Mega Man and Mario controlled more like Mario, but that is an issue I've had with the game ever since the 64 era.

How would you feel about these being added to smash?
First off, an 8-"pip" super meter. Yes I know we have the final smash meter now, but I already came up with idea before that was revealed for Ultimate.
Second, Guilty Gear's cancels. Just completley rip them offf.
-1 pip can be spent to reduce a move's endlag, effectively replacing L-Cancelling, but making it a trade-off instead of something you should be doing every time.
-2 pips can be spent to cancel a move during startup, allowing you to cancel a move you know is going to whiff
-4 pips can be spent to cancel a move on-hit allowing you to combo into another move more easily
Finally the full 8 pips can be used to enter a temporary character-specific super mode.
These Super modes would be powerful, but not "lol I win" buttons like final smashes are. You can still fight back against them, they are just a bit tougher.
Obvious ones would be Wario -> Warioman, Sonic -> Super Sonic, Little Mac -> Giga Mac, Lucario/Mewtwo/Charizard -> their Mega-forms, and Bowser -> Giga Bowser (Though obviously toned down from their final smash versions.)
For examples with character not already in the game:
>Cranky Kong drinks a potion and turns back into classic DK
>Poo uses his Mirror ability to transform into his opponent's super form
>Ray 01 equips some illegal parts
>Marx turns from his cute ball-riding form to his monstrous winged form
A Free-For-All Time/Score game mode can even be based around this.

It also has a Dragon Quest rep and DoomGuy therefor this set has the highest amount of solid iconic gaming choices. Dangaronpa Bear is the only bad choice I feel, as I have no idea how he'd play. Ike's smash attacks and neutral-B should only be used for punishes or hard reads, never anywhere else. His forward-tilt can be used to try and push back any upfront pressure you're experiencing, but is useless almost anywhere else. Focus on using down-tilt (or up-tilt if you're feeling frisky) to keep your opponent airborne, and follow up with your quicker aerials whenever possible. Use Nair if the opponent is pressuring you too much, as it covers most angles.

I need to keep them airborne, forward tilt to pushback on frontal pressure, D-tilt to knock them up, and I'd imagine all 3 of his sweeping aerials help juggle, Dair not really being used beyond spiking. I should also lab my RAR and shorthops, as just being able to do either would help with a lot of characters (Pit, DK, Mario, and Cap, all come to mind as having better Bairs than Fairs, for approach.)
Already I can see a big reason why I kept getting punished, and it was falling shorthop aerials on a grounded Lucina, instead of getting her up in the air before racking in the damage.
Also is dash attack a decent kill move? I got a lot of KOs off it, and obviously it's way better than a smash attack. Though I'd imagine that if you landed a Smash attack it'd inflict ridiculous "mental" damage, too, right?

Ike's aerials and tilts are his fastest moves with the least endlag, so keeping your opponent airborne is the best way to capitalize on it. If you think of Ike like a heavier Cloud, you can see how important aerials are in his neutral game. Walling out your opponent with Bair is the best grounded option you have until you find an opening. Dash attack is easily punishable if the opponent shields it, so I wouldn't recommend it. Bair and Upair are safer options but can kill at later percents. That's moreso just your judgement call as to how effective it is over dash attack. His grabs aren't too optimal either, but they're good for stage control in a pinch. I'd also suggest you watch the Smash 4 player "Ryo" play Ike in a few competitive sets, as it'd give you a few ideas as to how Ike plays optimally.
As for your question on fundamentals, I'd suggest Link, Chrom, or even Ganondorf. It's important that you get a feel for swordplay since you intend on committing to it with Ike. Ganondorf's limited neutral will also help you understand when to use smash attacks, since his new ones are so similar to Ike's.

Besides being a coach and saying "practice", there's no other advice I can give about Isabelle that you don't already know. This is why I say that if they were going to make a generic Mario enemy a fighter the obvious best choice is a Shy Guy. There are so many different variations of a Shy Guy and how they were portrayed over the years that the pull for his moveset would be more vast then any other Mario character. Not to mention they are pretty much one of the most iconic mario enemies at this point, above Piranha plant and even on the level of Koopa Troopa & Goomba.

The Smash Bros roster jumped the shark a long time ago. I will always be alone in my hate for the introduction and heavy reliance of third-party characters for this exact same reason. So many characters cast aside for the flavor the months and blatant advertising. People will continue to defend though and they have.

When third parties were retro gaming icons it was acceptable to me. Sonic the Hedgehog and Snake had games since the 90's and 80's. Mega Man, Pac Man, and Ryu were also museum relics albeit overrated. Cloud was pushing it. Joker from P5 throws the third party standard out the window with a cringe reveal. So in retrospect I suppose third parties were a mistake after all. Because we will see Minecraft Steve eventually, if not in Ultimate then in the next game, if the quality of third parties degrade even further.

Can Shy Guy's down B special give him stilts? Stilts is an evasive maneuver that raises Shy Guy off the ground. He can then jump on you with stilts to deal damage. Double jump or taking a hit directly will drop stilts. If you punch the stilts directly then Shy Guy bounces back which can be an advantage or disadvantage depending on which side of the edge you're on.

So I found out something interesting. You can go from a neutral special straight into a side smash by holding B then pressing A afterward. After the neutral special animation if you fall long enough you NAir regardless of what direction you hold the stick.
You can buffer side attacks into FAir using B+A or a side smash if you land. And I tried it with down special too. Even releasing the stick after Mario catches F.L.U.D.D he does a down smash even after landing. This doesn't work with up special for Mario due to leaving him vulnerable in the air. It might work for characters that slam the ground like Kirby or Ike after up special. I haven't tested. Also up special doesn't buffer into UAir due to recovery state.
Let me know if this is all old news and not very useful. Maybe someone who can count frames can see if there's a difference between buffering and manually inputting the command. Of course tilts are still superior to smashing in most context.

I've got all of the spirits except for one, the Partner Pikachu. I was lucky to get a hold of my sister's let's go eevee and did just enough to get me the partner eevee in smash. Will it ever pop up on the spirit board or in the shop, or am I shit out of luck because I'm not willing to spending $50 on a game I won't play? The searching I've done only yields results from a few weeks back that don't tell me jack shit.

So I have a meme for you. Create 4 names where all the controller inputs are jump. Name them SBC1-4. Set no input for shield, attack, special, nor taunt. Then create a rule set for custom smash: mini, flower, back shield, curry, heavy, and angled camera. Set rules for Stamina (100-300) with no time limit (flower sets the time limit), no FS meter, Battlefield form only, and launch rate x0.5.
If you wish you can turn on items but only on high with the following:
Container, Bomber, Blast Box, Fake Smash Ball, Sandbag, Super Musheoom, Poison Mushroom, Bullet Bill, Bob-omb, Motion-Sensor Bomb, Green Shell, Freezie, Gooey Bomb, Smart Bomb, Deku Nut, Hothead, Unira, Bombchu, X Bomb, Hocotate Bomb, POW Block, Cucco, and Beehive.

An update on the Spicy Blushy Crushy custom smash. You do have to assign an Attack and Special button. So for Gamecube/Pro I set them to D-pad. For Joycon I set them to SL and SR because it's sometimes easy to bump the trigger and bumper. (L/R and ZL/ZR). You don't need to set shield apparently.
