What, being a barebones sandbox building game that never reached the potential everyone saw in it? From what I can tell, something like this was what most people expected MC to become when they played the indev release way back when, assuming this game ends up well-made. If you're that autist who thinks MC needs to be some empty, simple-minded block-building simulator with no effort put into anything else, you need to realize that most people wanted an actual game out of it, not a mishmash of barebones mechanics and features building that's less interesting than fucking Lego.

This idea is good, Minecraft has mad limitations. Always thought these guys had sick minigames, would have loved to play them in a game that doesn't play like shit. However they're super incompetent at least when it comes to the server, and the guy who made all the maps and stuff can't even code so this is only semi related to him. Minecraft the survival game didn't need a redo though, mostly just the multiplayer. Tons of lag, super ping based, dumb combat. Hypixel had some fun games that overwrote the vanilla combat mechanics with plugins, and they were decent to good. Really good cod zombies close, better than bo4.

All Minecraft has ever been good for is small group or solitary comfiness as an actual game. The only decent competition it offered alongside that was being the villain in some non-functional autist's personal hell by breaking his shit, manipulating him into humiliating himself or scaring him by shattering any number of his delusions about himself or the game or the world. PvP was shit and is shit and is incapable of being anything but shit in the game as it was and as this game will be. If they really wanted to make Minecraft a decent PvP type of game, the focus should be on building things that piss off or fuck up your enemies like innocent looking houses to break into that turn into inescapable death traps where item recovery isn't possible, the number of servers I killed by doing that shit was the high point of the original.

I can't say I didn't have 500 super fun hours on modded Skyrim. Not speaking to the strength of who made the game, or anything positive their way, modded Minecraft is a hell of a lot of fun. It specifically has a bunch of mods that appeal to me, and made the thousands of hours I put into this one pack worth it. I'd never play normal MC that much, and most of what I was playing wasn't vanilla content. Totally new blocks, new mechanics like quests and electricity, new ore gen, new terrain gen, basically it's a new game at that point. I wouldn't attribute that fun to notch/Mojang, and definitely not Microsoft, but bloodasp makes a fun ass mod, dreammasterxxL and co. make the best modpack I've played, and tons of other people helped with mods/plugins and stuff. Doesn't make Minecraft good, but it's still the best "game" I've ever played

It doesn't matter how moddable a game is if nobody is going to play it. Minetest was created to be literally "Minecraft, but with much better mod support" and basically nobody plays it, so no mods are created, so it's garbage and will always be garbage.

Several of them were supposed to have a modding API and pretty much all of them have vanished into obscurity already. This really wont be any different, because as it turns out the majority of minecraft's player base that hasn't moved on are married to minecraft minigame shit and have zero interest in suddenly jumping ship to a minecraft clone when there's zero incentive for them to do so.

The players who care about mods are pretty disenfranchised by constant updates either breaking mods, killing modpacks as mod developers abandon the previous version or refuse to move to the next, and quickly became the minority, so when a clone comes along bragging up mod support they'll only attract the niche group of minecraft players.

It's actually a lot like gambling, where the players have invested so much time and effort into minigame servers that moving on would mean losing all that time they invested, they're gonna keep playing because maybe that "investment" will pay off some day.

The thing that most people fail to realize is that the autistic 12-year-olds haven't been Minecraft's primary playerbase for years and really never were, but let's not get into that. Almost everyone still playing it trends on the older side of things (25+), and that goes double for the most popular streamers. If there's anything that this types of player (ESPECIALLY those who rely on it as a source of income) values, it's stability. If they play modded, either they're writing their own mods, using trusted ones, or using command blocks. Suddenly jumping into a brand new, totally untested game that is partly MADE for modding is just something that isn't going to appeal to those types. They weren't the ones really interested in the "adventuring" or RPG aspect of Minecraft in the first place, but the building and technical aspects. Which, by the way: conspicuously absent from this game so far? Redstone, or anything remotely technical.

Is this game going to be popular? Surely; it's flashy and meme-worthy and is being well-advertised. But almost all of the people who play it for anything resembling long-term are going to be people not currently playing Minecraft (and a whole shitload of kids, who will drop it in a few months when the next Big Thing pops up). Minecraft players want Minecraft, not a 3D RPG with fully destructible voxel-based terrain and small elements of building/crafting.

Depends. There isn't a single good 3D Terraria-clone out there, which is why so many Minecraft mods try to create that sort of experience. These Minecraft mods all fail, because mods can't unfuck the horrible experience that Minecraft's core gameplay is. For fuck's sake, the team in question, Hypixel, their server is only popular because of minigames, not because of Minecraft's core gameplay.

The fact of the matter is, Minecraft is a shitty, broken game. It always was, but there haven't been that many alternatives which aren't just treading the same awful ground. Mods are the very lifeblood of this shit game. If a game can provide what Minecraft does, but with better core gameplay, it has already beaten Minecraft objectively. Anyone who tries to extensively mod it into a completely different game is going to quickly realize how much easier it is to just play some other game that already has those elements. Hypixel and the like may be extremely popular, but that's just because they have a continuous rotation of new blood. Hardly anyone is going to stick with that shit for very long, much less the years and years that Minecraft has existed and kept players interested.

This is just garbage design from the very beginning, like trying to make a gun and accidentally ending up with something that shoots you in the face

I feel like minecraft is getting worse. All the new shit they keep adding is filler. I like some of the new blocks becuase i can build cool shit with them, but all these new items, potions and food, mobs, and other useless filler is getting out of hand. Minecraft worlds are getting so complicated and cluttered now. A new biome and a few new blocks every now and then is ok, but adding 10 mobs, 15 new blocks, 5 biomes, 3 potions, 6 food items, a new weapon and armor (just pulling numbers randomly, this is an example) is too much filler. Mojang should just stop updating Minecraft. Hell, they should revert any updates after the update that made everything more colourful. That would be a good stopping point. I like the concrete blocks but when everything is so bright and colourful it makes my eyes bleed, it's gone too far. Sadly, this will never happen as Minecraft is one of the most successful games of all time, and is a massive franchise and cash cow. Companies will milk Minecraft dry to the bone like Todd did with Skyrim, just worse becuase Minecraft shit can be found FUCKING EVERYWHERE. Personally, i think that they can just discontinue support for Minecraft, and stop making new shit for it of any kind. It's 90% filler items and mobs and 10% actual good content like a new block here and there. The new update is fucking adding village raids! Villages were never meant to be too important. Find one, trade with some villagers, steal all the crops, torches and blacksmith shit and leave. Same with the oceans. They looked fine beforehand but now every 15 blocks you see a coral reef, a sunken ship, fishies, and a ocean monument. That's exaggerating, but you get the point. The only thing that can use some more things is the Nether, but that's about it. A new Nether mob or two would be fine, but don't add 15 new mobs and a billion items to it. The End is also fine as it is, and they already went too far adding End Cities. My biggest gripe with Minecraft now is it's no longer about surviving the night and killing the Ender Dragon, it's a babby hand-holding simulator that does everything for you, throws a million things in the faces of new players so they feel overwhelmed at how much shit there is, and there isn't a real challenge anymore. Mining? Easy. Farming and breeding animals for food? Too easy. Doing anything? So easy i could do it while snorting cocaine. It's all just "here, take this overpowered item and go kill shit". It used to be "oh no, it's dark out, you can't see a fucking thing, there are dangerous monsters out that want to kill you, and you are low on recourses. Good luck!"

Minecraft is dead. Even modding cannot save it. The only good way to play it is uninstalling the last 5ish updates or so. Hell, downgrade it to beta if you really want a true MC. It's so bright out at night it might as well be day. Remember when it got so dark at nighttime that you couldn't see anything in front of you and turning up your brightness sliders did jack shit? Enough of my ranting, i think you get the point now.

No, they were just shit. Notch and Mojang half-baking a feature through their own incompetence and laziness doesn't mean it wasn't meant to be important. Even now, MC is a shitty, barebones sandbox with a bunch of half-realized features. Combat was shit m1 spamming and was only marginally improved by the introduction of timed swings. Enemies are shit with overly simple AI and attacks that consist of rubbing up against you. Building is shit because there's practically nothing functional to build besides pointless automation to give you more resources than you have use for, and there's barely anything decorative to build. Exploration is shit because the worldgen is boring and there's nothing worthwhile to find. Farming is shit because every crop is farmed the same way and are barely functionally different. Livestock are shit because all you do is stick them in a pen and occasionally throw them some of the shitty crops you just grew. Enchanting is shit because it's an rng system that requires grinding to even have a chance of getting something good. MC was never good. MC was never difficult, unless you artificially gimped yourself or were an idiot. You sound like one of those autists that believe MC had some kind of "purity" to it before whatever update changed too much for you. It was only ever a shallow, empty, barebones game that could have been a good foundation to a great true sandbox game.
