I'm seeing significantly better lighting on the N64 version in that video. The PC version looks like everything just has universal lighting.

the N64 version also has more varied geometry, even if the character models aren't quite as good. The textures took a hit and a couple spots could have used better lightsources (like when he falls into the river) but this actually looks better on console to my eye

The lighting is super dark and looks awful (pic related), the faces are blurred and like you said the textures are lower resolution. The shape of Indy does look better in the N64 version yes but the PC looks better in every other way to me. The PC also has the benefit of higher quality audio for voice clips and music since it came on a CD as opposed to the cartridge.

I guess it comes down to a matter of taste but I've personally played through the Infernal machine on PC many times and know the game inside and out.

Been trying to get LoK Blood Omen for a few weeks now. I haven't found one decent ps1 emulator or iso or whatever. Every site that hosts the game require you to download some fucking bitcoin miner, custom installer for a .zip file that's less than 80 mb. And every emulator like ePSXe glitches the fuck out of the game to the point where it's unplayable and you have to dick around setting and shit to get it to work. Fuck, I want to jab a kitchen knife into the fuckwads that make emulation so fucking hard these days. I really should have saved saved all the games back 5 years ago when it was easy.

>>15874488

I get your anger, but in this case anon is right. What collectors do is actively search for really obscure and rare games and either destroy them or hoard them. When it's digital they can't do much except try and take down an upload here and there. This all is so they can drive the cost of those games that now only they hold to ungodly amounts. It's a cancerous market.

They do have slower reactions but they dont miss anymore than other games AI, you seem not to factor in that if the AI has anything better than a handgun you can die pretty easily if they get a few shots off

>kb+m is cheat mode

doesnt give any advantage except for goldeneye and perfect dark, aiming is required most of the time in timesplitters because without it you aim slightly lower than where you are aiming, you can just turn up the AI reaction time in goldeneye if you wanted too, i dont see why you would want to increase the speed in timesplitters because then it would turn into a bullet hell. using the mouse isnt any different than using an anologue stick with higher sensitivity or two n64 controllers

Yes, PAL games run slower even under emulation. In the best case the game will run normally at a lower framerate, but many games literally appear as if they're in slowmotion. In the most heinous cases the music will be slowed down too.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__ErBf409Dk

Europe was a much smaller market, so many developers didn't care about adjusting the PAL release.

Some 6th gen PAL games did run at 60fps if you had a TV that supported it. The Gamecube especially was very good about this.

You're not a "collector". As others have stated, collectors are the fags that make it harder for people like you to play with physical copies, and most don't even play the games. I got my complete SNES and NES rom packs from torrenting alone. Why waste time downloading individual roms when you can easily get the whole pack? Heck if your internet fucks up, you got over 1000 games on your PC ready to play. Best part, those complete rom packs are less than one fucking gigabyte.

Nah I got it working, somehow. There was a lag issue so I switched out the default plugins with recommended plugins for toasters configured properly, set resolution lower, then turned off vibration so it's smooth sailing now. I don't care about stretching lower resolutions so long as it's an even fraction of my max resolution so it's perfect for me

Ideally, you want to use the version of MAME for that particular version of set.

You can get a rollback set with DAT file for the version of Mame you're using and use clrmamepro or some other ROM manager to revert newer sets to older version of MAME.

There are merged, split, and unmerged sets for any given version of MAME. If you have ROMS for a merged or split set, you might need additional files depending on if it's a clone or requires a bios file.

Hopefully that was not confusing.

I've been playing the hell out of Garou but some non-fightan games would be nice, especially any racing games. I know about Puyo Puyo Tetris already and The Outfoxies isn't supported.

Here's the romset, 16-bit recommendations are fine too I guess.

Look at the 16-bit hardware to get ideas. Old 32-bit ARM, Motorola, and NEC games should be playable too.

Streets of Rage Remake is an interesting case.

The devs had Sega's implicit permission for years; Sega's always been open about fangames, especially Sonic fangames. They even waited until after the release of SoRR to actually C&D it.

I think what did it is the graphics; the creators say everything was painstakingly recreated, but every graphic that's shared with the original games is 100% identical to the original. This sends up red flags in copyright court.

Steambot did something specific that no other PS2 game does except one other game made by the same devs which is why it's compatibility is so terrible. The PSX scene is kinda dead anyways, even PS1 emulation still has minor bugs you have to tolerate because everyone moved on from accuracy because it was "good enough" to "we can do better" when no they can't. You still have to use the configurator that comes separate from ePSXe for crying loud, it should just be baked into the fucking thing already but no let's fuck with internal resolution because "we want shaders" instead of quality of life upgrades. Fuck shaders you can't even fix that fucking yellow box bug in FF9 and had to integrate it into the UI. Or those fucking sound bugs in Vagrant Story which is never fucking fixed and only a specific plugin setup for ePSXe 1.5.2 works which is in polish and the page was either removed or changed locations and nobody keeps that around in English because ePSXe is "old and out of date" even though it runs a lot of the popular games better then the "enhanced" ePSXe 2.whatever ever could when it's settings is set for accuracy.

AMD GPU tooo I assume?

Because if that's the case you don't wanna use the OGL renderer unless you're also running the FOSS drivers (can't get that on Windows afaik)

Your 1500X should be in the same ballpark as my 4790 so you shouldn't be having that much trouble emulating stuff unless you're configurating it badly or don't know how to configure it, which if you're complaining about sound stretching is more than likely (PROTIP you can disable that and have been able to since forever)

>>15937122

>"ePSXe is the only relevant PS1 emulator"

Well of course if you use that trash nothing is gonna ever progress since the dev is too busy banking one the android retards lapping up his shit no matter how bad it is.

Mednafen has no major issues that I know of outside of a handful of games that the dev won't fix because the fix is either a hack which won't happen unless it's in a fork or a 3-5x speed decrease for everything which is not practical for actual use.

for reference https://github.com/libretro-mirrors/mednafen-git/blob/master/src/psx/notes/PSX-TODO

>>15937286

PPSSPP is also a wasteland in terms of compatibility, people only praise it because they don't know better

There's like 10 issues regarding the omnipresent input lag / AV sync / sound crackling issues and absolutely nothing has happened with that since fucking years, it's come to the point where you're better off using an outdated fork of it if you want those issue to not be as bad.

The one guy that ever worked on that is StappleButter, if you don't know "it" I can link you to his blog where he cries about capitalism, how is life is shit and his failed mtf transistion.

Not to metnion that even if that shit ever got to be playable you'd need all the players to play on the same computer due to latency concerns.

Just Cause, the PC port is based on the og Xbox version, so it lacks the more advanced lighting and shadow system of the X360 version. And it's glitchy as hell.

Also, in the late 80s and early 90s, DOS games often were not as good as the Mega Drive version. To make things worse, sound cards were not widespread yet, and the PC speaker was just ear torture.

I don't believe ecm has anything to do with it (despite being a retarded obscure compression scheme that resulted in negligible gains in most cases), they're probably just shitty rips.

Anyways it's good to see other people beginning to realize that preserving EP content is actually a disservice to game preservation (almost everything from there is garbage, shitty rips, shitty dumps, heck they still had roms with intros for some systems), I've been saying that ever since they went down and anons were in panic archiving everything.

I'm trying to emulate PS1 games with mednafen. I did it successfully before, but I have a problem with it this time.

It says that after (X) many kilobytes it can't use ISO or .bin files and that I need to use another extention. I'm paraphrasing. I can get the exact error message if it would help.

If you have a .bin file without a .cue, there are some programs you can use to generate a .cue. Not all of them work well depending on the image format and what console it's for.

I personally have a cracked copy of Isobuster just for this purpose, since of all programs I've used it's proven to be the best tool for the job, it usually autodetects the image format and all tracks perfectly.

>>15955408

Not really, if you have a .bin without .cue some games might not work (especially those that have bins in Mode 2/XA format), and they won't have music if it's a game that uses CD audio tracks.

My post seems to have confused everyone, and I made a mistake.

I'll give as much detail as possible here.

Loading either Persona 2 Eternal Punishment or Persona 2 Tsumi results with this message.

"ROM image is too large; maximum size allowed is 67108864 bytes. If you are trying to load a CD image, load it via CUE/TOC/M3U instead of BIN/ISO/IMG"

The .zip files that I have come with a .bin file and a .cue file. I hadnt seen the .cue extention because I haven't configured windows to show all filename extentions. sorry for dumb.

Loading the .cue file and not the.bin file also results in an error.

I was able to run smaller games with the .bin files so I'm certainly doing the basics correctly.

I have other games on my backlog so don't lose sleep trying to trouble shoot for me.

What kind of error mednafen throws when you try to load the .cue file? Looks like it might be a bad / invalid .cue.

The most common problem with .cue files is pointing to the wrong .bin filename inside it. .cue files are plain text files that you can view and edit in Notepad, so you could take a look at it and see if it's pointing to the correct .bin file.

And of course, like 65f6e1 pointed out, the .bin and .cue must be in the same folder.

Other games worked and it doesn't work with two games. From the error message it seems that it might be the case.

scph5502.bin is nothing a game image, it's a PSX bios file (specifically, for the Euro PSX - it's a PAL game, right?).

Taking a closer look, this only appears to happen in full screen (I have two monitors).

The only relevant looking settings I can find are the hotkeys "enable hotkeys", "grab mouse toggle", and "game focus toggle". But all of these are either bound to F-keys (so I'm sure I don't hit them accidentally), or are unbound. There's also the setting "don't run in background", which is on. Also, I can't find anything in the documentation explaining exactly what any of these do.

Ideally, I'd like games to keep running in the background with only gamepad input recognized, but just completely disabling input when out of focus would be acceptable. Note I'm on Linux.

Can't fucking wait for the new Qt GUI to mature enough this garbage can be fully replaced.
