I'm itching to play Tribes again but I only played Ascend and even if it's alive I have no intention of sinking my time into a Hi-Rez game, especially when they're too busy copying popular trends like Assfaggots, Overwatch clones and BRs.
Are any of the pre-Ascend Tribes populated enough(as in has a nice steady group of players that aren't all two decade vets) to play? Is Midair any good? Is Ascend completely dead and is Hirez dying as punishment yet?

I coincidentally checked the reddit Tribes page the other night to see how active any of the games are. Weekends are the most active, with Next and even 1 having a decent number of people.
I do wish Midair wasn't dead or slow and I hope Hirez sells off Ascend. It's a pittance for them to grasp its corpse any longer when another studies could release a better game under the license.

You're asking for trouble there, aside from the fact that anyone still playing T1 or T2 is at a retarded high skill level the game is completely different.
Tribes 2 was a lot more strategic, attempting to play Kabatic like T:A intends will just get you vaporized by a turret. It is entirely possible and sometimes necessary to don a suit of heavy armor and stand in the same spot for 30 minutes defending the generator. That kind of game-play you can't sell anymore.

Your version has an old bug that was fixed in later versions. Basically, the observer system, which is entirely non-functional, has an existing bug where people who know what they're doing can teleport wherever they want at any time. Maybe leave the download running overnight, it's worth having the most updated version.

Im gonna say it right now, Tribes ascend was way better with classes even if it wasnt balanced, at least it was fun, unlike their crappy last and final update which just shat up the whole game and made it way less fun to play, killed most of the gameplay variety and made a mockery of the small community it had gathered and was still playing it, thanks for shitting up everything again, reddit.
