This game deserves a lot more attention. An RTS designed around cooperation is a rare sight on it's own. You can share control AFAIK too and there's and have players control champion units if they'd be overwhelmed by the rest of the game.

Fun, completely DRM Free, runs natively on Mac and Linux, pretty toaster friendly. Why do I never see this suggested, let alone discussed? I guess I could have made a thread myself.

Every time I open an Arcen game I see the interface, reel in horror, close the game and never go back. The only one I managed to stick with was Starward Rogue. They always seem like they have cool ideas but I can't get past the programmer art.

AI War, now there's a proper game. Possibly one the best RTS co-op game, with the only thing holding it back being the steep learning curve and horrendous graphics.

The amount of micromanagement in the game between missions is insane.

AI War is fun, though not sure allowing pausing is a good idea. I imagine it would end up being a shitshow with the pausing.

Everyone will probably be new, so extra time that pauses will give them will probably be a deciding factor in how badly they'll fuck things up. However, if those joining agree not to pause or pause only in emergencies, then it's gonna be that way.

Yeah, good point probably. I wonder how badly people will fuck up, because you can fuck up real easy in this game if you don't know what you're doing. If I remember correctly, difficulty of 7 was the recommended difficulty where the fun really picks up.

I've played this game for some ~30 hours and have it installed, might be willing to play if it is at a decent time.

Are there really people put off by the graphics? I think the game looks good. The interface makes even less sense to me.

At least AI War 2 is still in beta and arcen typically does a lot of post-release patches. It might be fixed, but I doubt it. They failed their first kickstarter which was for $299,400 and let me quote their reason for not round to $300,000

The issue is fundamental and deeply set, just everything about the approach to 3d and the design just feels totally off. It feels wrong and uncomfortable.

I think single player is easier, managed to win once. Maybe I just had it set to 6 instead of 7 though. Multiplayer does make the AI ramp up in progress quick though.

The worst part for me was that everything just became slow. Remember the arena in SPAZ1? It actually expected you to maneuver well enough to beat better ships. In 2 you can't even do any of that. You're just waiting for auto-aim to do it's job. You can tell it was made like that because of the changes to the camera in 3D. Since they went 3D they should just have given it 3D movement, turn it into a fast flightsim and it might actually have been fun.
