The secondary fire on Reach's grenade launcher was satisfying as hell

f388f2  No.15870378

Shit, the more I look at Reach's grenade launcher the more I hate it.

Is that tab sticking above the grip supposed to be a hammer?

I used to love how it looks.

Timesplitters 2 had a very good one. It has a primary and secondary fire. The former fires timed projectiles that split into multiple grenades when they bounce off a wall or score a one-hit kill with a direct impact and the latter shoots fireballs that sets people on fire. If they touch somebody else while on fire, they'll catch on fire as well.

The hammer is also in a dumb position. It really should be completely inside the gun at that point. It's so far back. And maybe a massive spartan hand could work the level, but any marine would have to take his hand off just to reload. Real guns I can just slide my thumb acros the top with my trigger hand. The part sticking off the back stops that. but at that point it's just a quake 3 rocket launcher with break action.

You dont even need to be /k/ to know how bad the US military is

>"Hey we want a new weapon program, companies can submit their ideas"

>*years and millions of dollars later from multiple big gun companies or even ideas from an inventor*

>"About that weapons program, even though weapons have the potential to be better in various ways, we're just gonna stick with the old rifle we already have"

They do it everytime, like what the did with the M16 when it was introduced, they sent out the wrong ammo, some shit cleaning kits and just didnt inform soldiers on how to properly maintain the gun in hopes that it would be dropped, other times they just strongarmed other countries into using 7.62 and battle rifles, then a few years later they told everyone maybe having controlable full auto was a good idea

They're not that hard to balance, much easier than shotguns at least. Also honorable mention to KF and KF2 where nades and RPGs have an arming time when fired, crippling the demo's close range fighting capabilities.

no, they gave out the wrong ammo, shit cleaning kits and purposefully left out important details on how to maintain the gun. and something to do with using the wrong barrels too, i think? mixture of special interest and goverment sabotage.

f3e989  No.15873833

>>15873769

They put the wrong kind of powder in the ammunition which caused the gun to cycle faster than it was supposed to and damaging it. Also what >>15873814 said, they neglected to teach soldiers how to maintain it and didn't chrome the barrels like they were supposed to.

The gun as it was designed was perfectly fine.

afd382  No.15873839

>>15873833

didn't the powder also leave residue and cause the gun to jam?

f3e989  No.15873845

>>15873839

Not sure, I just know they used the ball powder because the army had a ton of it stockpiled and wanted to use it up, even though Stoner specifically said not to do that.

c70d87  No.15874197

>>15873769

They basically loaded the M16's cartridges with powder charges meant for M14 ammo, which dirtied the M16's chamber a lot quicker than it should. They also forgot to inform grunts that they should (and how they should) keep their rifles clean periodically.

But it was susceptible to jamming a lot more easily than other guns in Vietnam, after the Stoner 63 and the M249. American guns were dogshit in general around that time.

e41728  No.15875212

>>15874197

the initial round used was wonky as hell, often fragmenting upon firing or having some weird ass trajectory. Reportedly it could enter a chinks stomach and leave by armpit or even leg. the rifle was also rushed and as such not really tested in the muddy and humid environment it faced in Asia. Funny and well known fact was that they could drastically improve it's reliability by drawing a condom over the barrel to stop the water and mud from getting inside.

It was also one of the first, more complex and more original firearms the Us army used. It had plastic moving parts, distinct action and trigger specifically designed and even a custom new round. Compare that to their previous weapons that either licensed or plain copied better established manufacturers like Mauser.
