Can we have a shmup thread? I recently made my way through these 3 baddies and I had tons of fun. I'm looking for more recommendations. Are they any shmups you've played you'd recommend for an afternoon of vidya?

I noticed that, and it's the only thing making me wish I had one. Pretty much Psikyo's whole back catalog has been ported and it's not even the DotEmu bullshit we always get on PC. The Vita is nice but horizontal shmups are for utter plebs. Shame about that button d-pad. >15863398

This is my first time really going for it and I'm still struggling at stage 5 to get past the rival and get hit by stupid shit on the earlier stages. Tyrian 2000 is the best shmup ever by a ludicrous margin, and it's free: https://www.gog.com/game/tyrian_2000
I feel like it did to shmups what Gurren Lagann did to mecha anime; it was the peak that no one could ever surpass. Forward guns, rear guns, side guns, special guns, special moves, shields, generators, tourist guides, lore detailed down to food and dining, secret extra gamemodes and an entire secret extra game, I highly doubt we'll ever see anything like it again. It's a must play just to see how far it is even possible to take the whole genre.

Best 2 or more player recommendations? Would prefer ones where you come right back when you die instead of having to rely on your partner to finish the stage alone.

I'd recommend the hell out of Hellsinker, although at the moment I'm angry as hell that no matter what I try I just cannot seem to get it to run in Wine without some measure of slowdown at certain parts. Looks like I really do need to boot up WinXP to enjoy it again. Sick of Wine fucking pandering to the flavor of the month AAA horseshit while decade-old games still don't work perfectly, niche doujin games need love too.

Reaction time (and with it, pissing and moaning about input lag) is mostly placebo bullshit, skill in the vast majority of shooters comes down to memorization. It doesn't, it kinda blocks the vent, but the design of the attachment has ventilation slots of its own to compensate. Apparently it doesn't get any warmer than a regular running Switch.

Did help a decent bit. Able to survive longer with the pink lazers. The problem you demonstrated is that you still died when going up against him. In my scenario when I'm at the rivals I'm usually at one life and I need to survive through the purple lazers bullshit. I've stopped working on training against him recently because now I'm back to dying in the earlier stages. I've been trying to work at batrider in general for longer sessions to see if that helps.

When you start the game in service mode by pressing the start button, it lowers the starting adaptive difficulty level and permanently lowers the maximum difficulty cap. It really does make the game quite a bit easier and it's how the vast majority of people play it "seriously". The thing that's always made me suspicious about it and finally convinced me to try and beat the game without this trick is that Deviate doesn't animate its turrets properly when the difficulty is that low.
Are you getting the hidden 1up from the big tank on the highway stage? If you have gotten the giant bomb icons to appear at the start of the airport stage, you can also get avoid a third one in a row to make another fairly consistent 1up right after the helicopter frenzy. Then it's up to you whether you want to kill yourself to drive down the adaptive difficulty or grab both 1ups for a full stock of 3 ships for the bosses.

>you can also get avoid a third one in a row to make another fairly consistent 1up right after the helicopter frenzy
pic related. Are you saying one of the 4 helicopters has a 1up too if I do or don't get the bombs in the airport stage?
6c03c3 No.15867248
>>15867211
The way it works is whenever you skip 3 giant bomb icons in a row, the next item that weak enemies will drop is a 1up. The weak enemies don't show up again until after the 4 helicopters so that's what I'm referring to. It's nice because it gives you time to safely kill yourself between grabbing the first hidden 1up from the big blue tank and the next from the weak enemies.
6c03c3 No.15867270
>>15867248
By the way, contrary to the strategy I just outlined, lately I have been intentionally preventing one of the first three giant bomb icons in the game from spawning so that I can setup an early 1up in Zenovia City from a third giant bomb icon via the tank after the big spiral turret miniboss, because that stage is pretty challenging at higher difficulty.

I 1cced STEEL EMPIRE (3DS) in about 2 or 3 days, took 3 or 4 hours of play time altogether. On normal setting.
On hard it took twice that. Pretty fun and easy shmup, good for beginners.
Prometheus (pro player) said it took him 100hours on mame before he could 1cc DDP DOJ. So it really depends what you're playing.

Regular old simple school chair, metal tube armature with wooden panels for the seat and back.

Autism and dedication anon, it's impressive. Even if my shitty back gave me the physical endurance to pull that off there's no way I would have the mental endurance to withstand it. Coincidently enough I'm trying out EoSD as my first shmup. Currently just managed to 1cc normal with Reimu A for the fourth time now. The only real trouble areas where I still need to brute force it with a bomb are the later spells of the last 3 bosses, but I'm enjoying myself.

Mr. Heli is nice, good choice. but I like the fast pace and multi-directionality of Gley lancer a lot, the levels are interesting and so are the enemies. It's a tight game. Much better than the mass produced bullet-shit memorizers we get spammed with today, which all play the same, look the same, same level design, same enemies, the only differences are trivial scoring changes and the bullet spam patterns are different.
