Probably because of the extremely low risk and great reward Nintendo's consoles have been known for when it comes to homebrew. The Wii U needed nothing but a $6 DS virtual console and you could install any game you wanted without fear of a ban as long as you didn't mod, you can still even download the games directly from their servers and copy them to an SD card. Playing online with backups still works flawlessly for the games that use it, there's just no Miiverse. Combined with the vWii you can also play Wii, Gamecube, and most other gens of Nintendo consoles with backups. Virtual console on it is shit though.
They did get a bit smarter with the Switch but Nvidia fucked them over with the recovery mode exploit.

They found her parameters which were copied off of ZSS who they used as a basis as early as April 2015. Sakurai is known to build characters off of existing ones like how Ganon is based off of Cpt. Falcon. Of all the shit that ruined future Smash Bros (outside of lack of momentum) I would say how ridiculous the recoveries became and magnet hands is what really did it. It doesn't matter how far you fly off the screen, it doesn't matter that this particular stage has a specifically large zone away from the stage until death, with the overwhelming majority of the cast you will always easily recover and cling onto the edge. Exaggerated bullshit. He won't die to a tilt at 60%. Maybe Ganon's ftilt if Pichu is at the very edge of the stage, and even then I think that'd not be nearly enough and Ganon'd need 70-80% on Pichu. Some of the cast would definitely die because they couldn't recover, though.
It's bullshit just like when faggots say shit like "Ganondorf kills you in 3 hits". What 3 hits when Ganon's tilts and aerials don't kill before at least 80-120+ in only some places and getting there requires 6-8 hits? Warlock Punch hits? Smashes? Does Dedede count as killing in three hits because three fSmashes/down specials can do it, too, even though the stuff he can actually land consistently takes at least 120-160% on average? Or do they mean that if Ganon hits you offstage and let's say spikes you, you can die? In that case pretty much everyone in the cast can kill almost anyone in 3 hits.
