Another security blunder for December 2018: Guy who's username is "GlockWork" figures out how steal people's account info for EscapeFromTarkov. Allegedly GlockWork found out how to duplicate the in-game currency and put in a support ticket so it can get fixed which subsequently got him banned for doing it in the first place, so now he's going nuclear and showing how he's able to obtain all the 1.9 million players account information. He is also depersoned from the official Tarkov subreddit, with users getting their comments auto-deleted if they even mention his website or name as well as the moderators playing disinfo by only referring to him as a "hacker" without explaining what he actually hacked.

The devs response to this is "D-don't worry, it's impossible for your info to get stolen! But use two-factor anyways :^)" [ http://archive.is/XJnyN ]. Additionally legitimate players are now reporting they're getting banned for cheating yet actual cheaters using wallhacks, aimbots, no-recoil, and speedhacks are reporting the opposite. Looks like the end of 2018 is shaping up to be a good one.

He got the password, that means they're stored in plaintext.

Most services have hashing algorithms and save the hashes, when you put your password in it goes through the algorithm and compares the end hashes, that means it's pretty fucking hard to get the passwords themselves, since you need to somehow find out the algorithm and somehow reverse it to get the password out of the hash.

The difference is that Tarkov is literally the best in the world in a few areas. I have never seen a game that has gun customization as right as Tarkov. The vast majority of weapon parts are in, and you can do shit like change the gas block on your M4 or swap furniture on your AK to go from surplus slavshit to backyard operator. You can put three lasers on a gun so it looks like a predator is aiming at something. You shoot a guy, see he has a neat scope, and mount it on your gun immediately in some cases as some modifications can't take place in a match and you have to extract to do them. It has a lot going for it now, and it has a lot of potential, some of which may be realized.

We will never get what was promised, though.

Cheaters are in every raid you go in, bar none. The only thing is if you get a cheater with walls, speedhacks, aimbots, or a combo of the 3. The anti-cheat is a fucking joke in this game. It takes up to a fucking WEEK to get banned for blatantly hacking. They could help fix this if they introduced a god damn killcam, but they say “we wont because muh realism.” But the real reason is that if people saw just how often they were being killed by hacks it would cause a shitshow.

All of this self-destructive thrashing around is because they know the game will never be in a decent state. Idea guys who can't program do eventually realise they've written cheques that can't be cashed, even if they're total narcissists or idiots. They probably figured out a while ago they need a full rewrite to have even a chance of fixing the latency and cheating. You can imagine that is driving them out of their minds.

The bans are bad enough but the illegal false DMCAs are clearly an attempt to burn it all while keeping the focus away from the game/their competence but keeping the money at the same time. It's a bit like someone who didn't study getting drunk before an exam or "accidentally" over sleep. The lack of study is covered up.

Star Citizen developers will do the same thing.
