Like i was talking to someone about this the other day and think of this to put the timeline in perspective: Minecraft came out of nowhere, became turbofortnite for like 3 years and is now dead and this happened AFTER Warcraft fell out of the mainstream pop culture noosphere of marketing bullshit.

Thats how fucking long normalfags stopped caring about Warcraft. In the mainstream its been dead longer than it was a thing. So they try scams like "let players roll a character as this sub race model and have them pay to do the same 1-120 again with no new content for one transmog set, thanks goys!" and the "most of our developers prefer to play mobile games now" comments and the way world quests are designed like energy based mobage and its clear the designers are out of touch with the core mmo audience and they cannot get the mainstream interested again.

and then Diablo Immortal happened while Overwatch was sacrificed to push the esports meme and thats a bomb too. Meanwhile hearthstones haemorrhaging players, starcraft 2 and diablo 3 are dead and they have nothing but a fucking outsourced chinese mobile game in production. With that many dungeons and raids in one condensed super edition of WoW with two expansions included, I think you would still need some progression via leveling after 60. Not just gear progression.

Obviously you have to avoid a situation where you can make vanilla raids easy just by being over level 60 - maybe levels past that wouldn't benefit you as much in terms of chance to hit or talent points? Maybe you'd need to pretty much do all the outland+northrend quest content combined to even get close to level cap, and you do vanilla raids in the meantime for gear to help with that as those zones are retuned to be hard as fuck.

Fun to think about but they'd never put so much effort into something like that. WoW 2 is more likely and that's not very likely at all. Blizzard's capacity to actually develop games seems to be at an all time low, and it'll be a miracle if they can pull off classic as they've described it at blizzcon and don't botch it on a technical level (most likely by resorting to sharding because they can't deal with server lag). I'm still looking forward to it as an alternative to euroshit private servers which have been a joke since nostalrius cucked out. But it's a waiting room for pantheon or some other fabled savior of the MMORPG genre.

Quake Champions is an alternative as it's a class-based first person shooter.

Paladins, TF2, and to a very lesser extent Insurgency.
