What a fucking good ass videogame. I never thought i'd be saying a Tetris release would be my game of the year but holy fuck this takes the purity of Tetris and the strange elative trance quality of Rez/Lumines to make a goddamn must own puzzle game.
Its strange how in Puyo Pop Tetris the Puyo sections are fantastic but something about the Tetris stuff left me feeling like "mm, this is okay but its not Tetris DS" but finally i've found a new Tetris that i consider my almost top tier. The singular slight i have is no two player mode, granted theres constant online scoreboards for all kind of autistic stats to chase #1 in your local area or the world but two player local would have made this as close to a perfect game as i think games can get.

Played the demo, it's alright.
Didn't feel like coughing up 60 bucks for a game that has a couple of bells and whistles.
I prefer Puyopuyotetris because of the multiplayer, simple design, and the smug anime girls to taunt the person next to you.

If TTC is so desperate to get people to buy their shitty rehashes, they could at least give people what they want (fix center 4-wide in multiplayer, make challenging single-player modes a la TGM and add fun modes (see Puzzle mode in The Next Tetris, Sakura Card Captor Tetris)). Instead we got this eye-candy filled garbage which is basically a downgrade. The only saving grace is that it's not as buggy and shitty as Tetris Ultimate, which isn't saying much.
You know it's really sad when decade+ old iterations of your franchise sweep the floor with its latest incarnations. Hell, even AMATEUR FAN GAMES no longer in development are better than the latest Tetris games. It's so embarrassing it hurts.
And before you open your mouth, TE's Master mode sucks. No ARE means pieces lock before you can charge DAS (reminds me of NES Tetris's kill screen where you can't get the fucking pieces to the edges of the field before they lock). Thanks to this the only way to proceed at high speeds is to abuse hold and the guideline's Move Reset. What the fuck were they thinking?
