its ok, but the gameplay is boring as hell, the missions are all the same, the guns are like paintballs and don't do much damage, the guns jam constantly, the map is too fucking large you'll get a mission and it'll take you across the fucking map on the other side and you have to make your way back. there are bus stops but they only take a while to even reach one. gliders are basically useless because there aren't high enough mountains to use it, just a bunch of hills.
its ok if you want to play something for a while but its not exactly that fun.

I did this sometimes. It's fun to sometimes do things in a calm and civilized way in the game, only use a cars you obtained legit, park in the parking lot, walk in the sidewalk, put away your weapons unless in combat, etc. Perhaps your sense of fun is too shallow.

A high-budget sandbox game can't focus on everything at once. They don't have the budget nor time to make a complex car simulator. So yeah, if you want specifically good car mechanics, go play a car game. If you want very nice, well-tuned shooting mechanics, go play something made for that.

If Far Cry 2 was able to cut out the massive amounts of bullshit that came from having to traverse through the boring open world it would be a stellar game. The gun battles are still intense and can get really hectic when explosives start going off and the battlefield starts being engulfed in flames. Then after that 5-10 minute window of intense and engaging combat you're stuck driving around and trying desperately to skip past the random enemy encounter driving along the road to get back to your objective.

I think a big reason behind the changes is that it's hard to add a lot of graphical diversity and keep all the mechanical dynamics of it. When you want to add 40 gigabytes worth of graphical assets it's probably a lot harder to make it all dynamic, compared to re-using similar trees/bushes/buildings/vehicles etc.
And since this is /v/ I need to clarify that I don't think that's a good thing. I'm not defending it, it's the opposite. I prefer gameplay mechanics over graphics. But I need this paragraphs because I know without it some retard will get angry at me for "defending Farcry 4" or some bullshit. So as a jaded payback I'm making it as long as possible.

I agree. Far Cry 2 is one of the most overrated games on /v/, it does have a small but extremely vocal fanbase for some reason. Yeah there's some neat stuff like the bush fires, but overall the bad outweighs the good. Don't forget the checkpoints with enemies that respawn when you go further than a few hundred meters from them. And it also has save corruption bugs on all platforms that Ubisoft never acknowledged and fixed despite hundreds of players reporting it.
Savannah, deserts and rocky terrains look beautiful but the jungle areas have always looked awful even when it came out - and the second half of the game is 90% jungle.
I think even Far Cry 3 is better

As someone who likes Far Cry 2, it's one of those things like STALKER, where it's a flawed, but enjoyable game because the whole is more than the sum of its parts. Yeah, it's buggy, it's got frustrating checkpoints, and its jungle areas certainly aren't the best, but for me, the game perfectly captures the feeling of being a lone mercenary stuck in some African shithole fighting and killing a bunch of niggers (and some whitey mercs) along the way. The main issue with FarCry 2 is the fact that you have to go back to the slum city everytime you want a new mission when you have phones in the game, the map is big enough to accomodate several places to get new missions and the fact that you should only go back to base when you want new gear that you haven't prepared with the crates.
It would cut half of the busy work the game has and make it much more enjoyable.
As it is FarCry 2 is nothing but a decent concept with piss poor execution, the retarded inaccurate weapons are enough to trigger me, I have no doubt that the vocal fanbase that likes it only does so due to it being babies first tacticool game for 7th gen console kiddies.
