I'm guessing your daily interactions with "regular people" don't extend much lower than polite, mostly white, westernized, lower-middle class people. The well-to-do "geek" whales you see on YouTube with gaming merch wall-to-wall in their bedrooms aren't regular or common, which is why so many lonely kids live vicariously through them. "Regular" is being poor as shit, living in trash, constantly buying cheap, fleeting amusement, and not understanding why you can't get ahead. And they're usually console gamers. Only about 1% of FIFA's sales are on PC.

A reset would be nice, i don't hate consoles on principle because of certain conveniences and gimmicks they can have over PCs, some nice features like rest modes in modern consoles are really convenient. But social media integration, and quickly aging hardware has proven unpleasant. I would imagine if the focus shifted to simply making an affordable box for playing games these companies could probably still turn a profit and put less people off purchasing the product.

buying last gens console with 5-10 dorrah used games is about $100-150 total for the console and a few games varies from console to console. you simply have to wait a little after the new console comes out. you just have to be careful not to wait too long or all the good games get inflated thanks to (((scalpers)))
