What is v's view on playing video game at a later age, typically 30 onward. Are there better things one can be doing by age in your life or is it a fine hobby to have? An argument was brought up that playing video games when you have a child is setting a bad example if not the best as one could be spending time with said child in other more productive ways if one is spending time with the child via playing video games or not, and/or one could be setting a better example by doing other activities in place of when they would be playing video games or just having a different hobby entirely.

>playing video games when you have a child is setting a bad example

Undoubtedly, it is. You can't stop your kid sitting on their arse and watching/playing brain poison when they reach adulthood, the least you can do is set the example. Just wait till they're in bed.

I say this as someone with two kids who's been gaming since playing River Run on my brother's Atari in '85.

It doesn't have to be a bad example though. Play in short bursts, and play RPGs. That way if your kid watches, he'll be able to read the story and follow along.

I think the important part is to teach kids that there are things to do other than games, and ways to deal with depression other than escapism.

Playing games is for boys. Developing games is for men. Todd Howard started directing Morrowind at the age of 28.

You know what's a worse example? Not being seen to have any real hobbies at all. If all your kid sees you doing is going to work and then coming home to do nothing more interesting than watching TV before going to sleep, either he's going to follow in your footsteps (or what he thinks are your footsteps) and become a soulless husk in adulthood, or he's going to run screaming from your example and find himself hopelessly addicted to video games or literally anything else to the absolute exclusion of the real world.

men do not worry about what people think of them

think about it

I'm 32. I used to play games so much as possible. Nowadays the everyday chores, activities with other human beings and taking care of my family and doing other personal projects like brewing beer or planing to open an online shop… I play usually about 3 hours per week. Maybe I could play 3 or 5 more but that would come from short sessions after doing all my tasks and those short plays leave me unsatisfied, therefore I watch more YouTube videos or read here in my spare time.

When I have kids I will try to teach them to first do their duties (homework and all that) and then we would play together.

Trannies are all about worrying what other people think about them. If people don't act like they think about them in the way that they want and control, they flip their shit. Textbook narcissism.

Age should not stop you from enjoying your hobbies.

Didnt chris chan become a transexual in hopes he could get a girlfriend that way?

You're right I guess. Trannies are ashamed of their real genders, at least most of them.

But being an adult is about being more productive than a child. If you were a gamer as a kid you should grow up into a game developer. I don't know about you, I used to be a dreamer back when I was a kid, still am now but now I try to make it come true.

As a baby you were being fed but as an adult you must feed. That's just how the cycle of life works.

If you're 30+ you should be strictly playing Dad games. This way you can remain cool and hip to your kids but also respectable in the eyes of your employers, friends, wife and co-workers.

>Are there better things one can be doing by age in your life or is it a fine hobby to have?

You could always do better things with your life like learning a new foreign language, getting fit or an education. That has nothing to do with age. Also, a hobby is something you do, because you want to and not for rewards or anything. Hobbies are a waste of time.

To be honest playing Betrayal at Krondor got me into reading Raymond E. Feist.

The only games I ever felt were close to being a 'hobby' type of activity were the Steel Panthers series, since you could treat each battle like a puzzle, you had to understand a reasonable amount about the vehicles you were using, how best to use the terrain and anticipate the enemies strength and whereabouts.

This is probably 65% of parents already. I go to pick my kids up of an afternoon and theres at least a half dozen kids doing that 'floss dance' bullshit. Most parents my age are watching some god awful home renovation crap on TV every evening while their spawn are on their own Ipads.

Approaching 30s here, yeah videogames are kind of a bad drug and the longer you can keep kids off of it, the better.

If you have kids, pretty much any other constructive hobby is a better way to spend time with them and most importantly, makes them develop a skill that can be marketable in their future.

If it really has to be videogame related, try to get them into programming, modding or making art, but make sure the time wasted playing videogames remains minimal.

I'm 35 and while I play less than I once did I still get in ~10 hours a week, to me it's no different to watching TV. As for the kid thing while I don't have any my mates that do just play after the kids are in bed.

I started playing at ~6yo and can't see myself ever stopping.

7d6770  No.15792714

That isn't a good reason unless your parents make a point of playing with you all the time. I played tons of video games as a child because I was always out of sorts socially. I have terrible eyesight and my parents entered me in to small private schools because the state we lived in had terrible public schools that weren't going to give a shit about the fact that I couldn't read the board. It worked, but I was also always with older kids that pushed me around, especially because I was smarter than them. Sounds cliche, but there it is. My dad playing video games didn't really have an impact on me, other than the fact that he found it acceptable.

> videogames are an inherently childish medium

Real chad adults just watch CNN and Sportsball. Reading is also for fags. Remember that watching TalmudVision and Pedowood productions is the only thing Real Adults™ do for entertainment.
