Well since the PS Classic is a sham and a scam, how about we dedicate the thread to the people that have half a brain and actually emulated the PS1. What are the must plays in your opinion?

I have been playing Ace Combat 2 and Ridge Racer 4 with OpenEmu. So far, each of those games are fully fleshed out and great, it's a shame gaming has descended into a money grabbing industry. Overall, though I am (((excited))) that I am finally able to play games on a console that I haven't touched in decades.

ab1f8f  No.15790154

I don't fucking get it. If they can shit this stuff out there is zero reason they couldn't just restart console production. You can't tell me this is any significantly less expensive to manufacture than a standard PS1 which would benefit from modern technologies making it cheaper to produce. Game makers hate second hand game sales so they're making it incompatible out of spite.

They're charging $15 for a stupid fucking "mini-arcade" with Pac-Man. 15 fucking years ago you could buy one of those joystick boxes that had Pac-Man, Galaga, Dig-Dug, Tetris, and a half dozen other game on it for less than $20. This stupid soy-boy reproduction game box shit is ridiculous. The quality is lower and the price is higher than when it wasn't some fucking soyfuck fad.

d195b7  No.15790186

>>15790154

Old consoles use a lot of very specific chips. They'd have to start up manufacturing for all of them and it would come out to being more expensive unless it does extremely well. Hell, most 8-bit home computers now have authentic replacement chips go for several hundred dollars, and the alternatives are imperfect emulation chips. Either it would cost a lot or be imperfect.

This is just a shitty Arduino-type that they're probably already manufacturing for their TVs or some other division, or could just buy in bulk for cheap from someone in China.

ab1f8f  No.15790213

>>15790186

I didn't know this, but they wouldn't have to make an exact copy. Isn't the technology there for them to make a new console that appears the same externally and plays the same discs but has more economic internals?

2362fd  No.15790231

>>15790213

That would require them to actually put in some fucking effort. Heck, they could have even used all those now discontinued Vita units and re-purpose them to exclusively play PS1 games, but nope. THIS thing running a RetroArch core.

d195b7  No.15790237

Think about it like this: not even the PS2 has perfect BC with the PS1. They would have to design hardware that's damn similar to the PS1 at the very least, and while it could be cheap in terms of cost, setting up a production line just for it would probably not make it worth it in. They certainly could make a box that runs disks and memory cards, but it would still be an Arduino and emulate it instead of running it natively. The problem there would be price of components (if they're unwilling to add sticks to their controllers, imagine how they feel about a fucking disk drive and proprietary memory card/controller slots) and they would most likely need to write up emulation for at least the memory card slots, since emulators don't exactly use authentic PS1 memory cards (and if they're using someone else's emulator entirely, do you really think they're willing to put even that much effort into it?)

We're talking about PS1/PSX emulation, not PS2, Saturn or even N64 emulation. Unless you are talking about old ass emulators like Bleem!, PSX emulation has been near perfect for almost 10 years now as you can play pretty much any game made for the PSX with no lag, glitches or any real issues and you can improve the graphics if you are into that, skip tedious dialogue or FMVs and savestate in areas that are either tedious to get to or really difficult in a game. Just because you have a preference for the original PSX hardware doesn't make it superior to modern PSX emulators.

1b398d  No.15794097

There's literally no reason for a Playstation Classic because your Playstation 3 can already play Playstation 1 discs via native emulation, allowing you to play the games with an HD connection and using digital emulated memory cards so you don't have to worry about shuffling around physical memory cards or remembering which games are on which card. Or losing a memory card, the data on the card becoming defective, etc.

Aside from that, the selection of games available is pretty sparse all things considered. Only 1 Squaresoft game is included in the entire collection, the racing game collection is sparse considering how many quality racers were on it we get the first Oddworld game but not the sequel, etc. 20 games is simply not enough and at least several of the games can be acquired other ways with digital purchases or via a remake like Oddworld.

Assuming they even come west, that XSEED doesn't suffer a quality degradation, and that sony doesn't discover content within that offends them to forcibly censor here. I suppose PC ports could avoid the latter issue, but that's assuming it's deemed worth submitting multiple versions of the game for ratings (I know they did so for Senran so people would still buy the game in some format, but still).
