They're banking on backwards compatibility to save the Xbox One. And it's working, to a degree. I mean, It got me to buy one. I got one of those Minecraft bundles for a little over $100 by getting it at Kohls ($200 Black Friday sale) and then trading away the $60 Kohls Cash it was bundled with for $50, and the Minecraft game that came included with it for another $30. Seems a better deal than just trying to repair/replace my Xbox 360 considering how prone they are to going tits up, even with the later models.
Meanwhile, I can just mod my old 360 with the dying disk drive and mod it to play pirated games from the HDD without worry about accidentally fucking something up and being out a console to play those games on. Until Xenia gets into a more complete state, I'll just play some of my 360 and original Xbox games on the Xbox One where the disk is only used to boot a digital file and not have to worry about the excess wear and tear on the disk drive killing it by constantly reading a disk.
Every game on the system that I'm even remotely interested in, I've already got on other and better platforms.
Also whoever designed the UI for the Xbox One either needs to be shot on principal.

The future of Xbox is simple, price cuts. If PS5 is going to be a 2019 holiday product, they've been working on it for a long time. It's entirely possible MS hasn't been working on Xbone2 enough to get it out in time to meet PS5.
I think we'll see MS keep Xbone around for a while, but sell it super cheap. Post PS5, I bet Xbone is still around, and we get XboneS for $149. With Xbone, it's clear that a "me too x86 CPU with AMD GPU" console with a dumb gimmick like TV and kinnect isn't going to sell. Xbone will probably have the best sales of its life if it becomes a multiplat machine for under $149 in the face of PS5 and $499. And really, if MS can sell these things at a loss a, they can easily make plenty of money with Xbox Live Gold selling for $9.99 a month.
PS5 could easily pull a PS3 and get fucked if MS does this. Those graphics in PS5 aren't going to make PS4 Pro and XboneX look bad. Maybe a little dated, but we've hit a wall that's not easy to get over.

Why wouldn't anyone interested in playing xbox and 360 games just get an xbox and 360? A used xbox costs $50-70 and modding it is incredibly easy to do, add $20 if you want it premodded. A used 360 is about the same price give or take.
Instead of buying something that can only play a few games from the previous generations and dealing with their shitty UI and terrible online service that never stops fetching updates you get two consoles that you can put all the games you want on and not have to deal with Microsoft ever again.
This is yet another case where piracy provides a much better product and service than the real thing, all it takes is the knowledge and being tech savvy enough to know the option exists.

Because the original 360 is an engineering hack-job and a ticking timebomb just waiting to go off. Especially if you get a used/refurbished model which have fan-hacks and improperly seated support braces designed to keep the board from flexing too much under the heat and busting the solder points.
I might have agreed with you had I not gone through four Xbox 360's. One of which I bought, two of which were returns from Microsoft under the warranty/extended warranty - and the last one (an "Elite" model) a gift from my cousin who just wanted to play Halo with me. All of them fucking died or developed major issues within two years. I've been hobbling along with that Elite just playing what I could manage to get installed to the HDD.
The generation is almost over and so far I've yet to hear of any major engineering fuckups in the Xbox One or higher than average failure rates - so the extra few bucks spent over just getting my 360 repaired is worth it IMO. Once if Xenia gets into a usable state - I'll probably sell the Xbox One. But for now, it's a decent enough stop-gap.
By the way… that cousin who bought me my Elite… yeah he went through eight Xbox 360's. Yet his launch Xbox One is still working. If there is one single advantage that the Bone has over the 360, is that it doesn't have a habit of self-destructing.

The Fortnite bundle did better than the God of War and Spiderman ones, and we keep getting shipments of them. Those two games are shit but it's better than buying a console to play a free-to-play meme game.

The real problem with that idea is that it would require high levels of coordination and cooperation from multiple teams, and the slightest fuckup from any one of those teams could make finishing the match much harder - if not impossible - for the rest. There's absolutely no way that would work with randos, as what you're basically building a trolling amplifier where you can not just grief one person or one team - but entire teams of teams of people. Let alone that you're putting the success of dozens upon dozens of people in the hands of the lowest common denominator nigger or trailer trash kid. Most of these faggots already being low-effort time wasters because they're content with a control input as garbage as an analog stick because they're too stupid to lay a board across their armchair to rest a keyboard and mouse on. BTB was often a fucking mess with randos for those exact reasons, and that's only a fraction of the size of what you're talking about.
