It's a matrix of pixels just like an LCD, the video signal would need to be sampled and upscaled to the native resolution before the pixels can be driven, which requires a few scanlines of processing. It would still be way better than LCDs, just not enough to play old light gun games.

It's a slight drop with many causes, but the drop is mainly in well worn third party series, Fillauth, Call of Goy, Battle Field5, but then Red Dead is way up over the previous iteration, and Ass Creed is again the best selling title of the series on current gen platforms. Fallout 76 is a spinoff that as a product was offensive at best, fans would have easily have eaten up a proper new entry, and Skyrim 2 will easily hit stride. Call of Duty is just overdone at this point. Fortnite is captivating the casual market. With limited time and money the Switch is posing real competition to other platforms, but more importantly none of these games are on it. It's a temporary downward trend, if you think this is something big then we are well into the second decade of like predictions, and the NES proved that the market can turn around pretty fast.
