I loved Red Dead Redemption. 'Deadmans Gun' still makes me super nostalgic for the end of that game and while i never gave two shits about GTA games post vice city i was somewhat interested in another rooty tooty cowboy shooty game. But in playing it i find myself just not caring about the events.
I think its because its a prequel. The game looks great, crossing a valley to see a big town with a steamtrain rolling out the station is neat but at the end of the day they go "hey dutch seems a little out of it" and its like we are supposed to not know about RDR to enjoy this. Theres no threat when we know what happens to dutch, john and the gang, none at all.
So without the engaging story you are left with "skin these rabbits for a pouch upgrade" or have a shootout with this rival gang because shootbangs and it feels like an ubisoft map filling busywork sim. There have been a few fun quests like when you get shitfaced in a saloon and as the night progresses the ui and npc models get more fucked up as you get drunk but by and large its just not an exciting game.
I always think about folks like iwata, miyamoto or even staten working on the first halo game saying "if you arent having fun for 30 seconds we need to scrap and redo that area because its not fun". Thats entire hours at a time of this game. Everything from Breath of the Wild to Witcher 3 did the same but better.
It reminds me of articles saying the reason Todds shitting out stuff like fallout shelter and 76 is because they are no longer the only game in town for large open world games and their ageing ideas are looking all the worse for it and i think thats happening here too, for me at least. Not only have other recent titles like The Tetris Effect eaten up way more of my time but even older stuff like Warframe is dragging me back in while that RDR2 case just sits on the shelf gathering dust because my default reaction is "i could have more fun playing anything else".
Do you know what i mean? saying 'its just boring' seems to overly simple but its like playing the original halo which was this bombastic power fantasy gung ho shooter and right after playing 5 which is basically trying to be a tv mini series. Like a sequel so desperately wants to be seen as baftab8 that being a fun videogame wasn't part of the design brief.

There's two "strang wamyn" I found in the game, one is part of a side quest to find the legendary shooters of the west for some fat guys book. You help her in a shoot out and all of her "feats" were when she was running in a gang.
The other is some deranged bitch you meet in the opening chapter of the game, gets everything taken from her. She was just a housewife and then the first time you go on a mission with her, she shoots up a bunch of other gang members straight away just outside of the town you're trying to convince that you're not bad guys. What's worse is that she survives the main quest and when you get to the post game content, she's one of the main characters you do missions for. She's a bounty hunter and apparently has been capturing all these men while being some skinny bitch. If they wanted a strong woman, they should've just made her a hulking monstrosity freak of nature kind of thing. By far the worst part is that her voice is extremely grating.
There's also the protester "Stranger" NPC that leftists are screaming at Rockstar to make her unkillable, because a lot of players have been killing her and posting the videos to jewtube. Some were even calling for flags against people's online accounts to ban them from certain services if they killed her.
There's also NiggerIndianMan. In postgame he helps you fight the Indians that Dutch has taken over in the post game.
One part I didn't like about the game was the main quest to drive the carriage full of shrieking wamyn through town protesting for their rights. But then it didn't even last that long (you get pulled into the "main" part of the mission after that, which isn't really related). Either way, that part still felt completely forced since you can't just tell them to fuck off (some quests allow you to say no to people, even a quest line to say no to the shrieking deranged gang member I mentioned above).

I figured that before that moment we were going to ransom him or find out where the gang could get money since he set Dutch and everyone up.
At least, the game didn't make it feel like you were actually on the run. Sure the camps location changed every now and then because "the law would be after them" but the open world goes against that since you can ride up to any one of these towns you've just had a major shoot out in (Valentine, Strawberry, Rhodes and Saint Denis) and go around them like nothing happened. The only exception being Blackwater but you don't see that in the game, unless that's what the special edition story quests included.
I actually just finished the epilogue's story last night. Sadie and Charles getting injured just made me think "wow I hope Sadie dies" but nah they're both totally fine. The final stand off between Dutch, Micah and John just had no weight to it, partly because I know John will live due to him being the main protagonist in the first game. Dutch shooting Micah made no sense to me, or him even being there. I mean, he just shoots him without any real coercion on John's or Sadie's part. This was clearly meant to be a "how did the events of RDR come about?" but all I got from it is, Dutch and the main gang split up, Dutch and Micah form a new gang, which John wipes out, Dutch leaves all of his money and gold behind and then goes on to form his next gang between RDR2 and RDR.
I get that it makes sense that Sadie cracked and just turned into what she did to cope with what happened. But then she's constantly boasting about how she's been taking bounties all by herself, which I don't believe since there's no way she could even pick up fully grown men due to her build, reinforced by the fact she drags her last bounty in the game by the legs into the Sheriff's office in Blackwater. Unless it's all a lie, which is why she asks John for help, but there's no disbelief on anyone's part that's the case. Ok sure, maybe she just lassoed them and made them walk, but again, it's never seen.
As for the bigger balls part, it's probably meant to contrast against John. He has something to lose, she doesn't. It doesn't really matter to her if she dies on any of these bounties, with the exception of chasing down Micah.

Well that's not really true that all the Vikings up and left some permanent settlements way out in the eastern parts of Canada remained but could never expand past that point. The settlements were simply not capable of more then that because of too much dependance on voyages to and from the east.
You see the one thing even the most whitewashed history books will tell you is how god awful the voyage to Canada was and how pretty much all the big name explorers were dealing with borderline mutiny or already being on the receiving end of a mutiny by the time their journey to reach the place ends. There is a few plot holes because of that. Also Dan is another Quentin Tarantino so he can't make anything original when he gets his hands on it. The story only gets a bit good in Chapter 6 where Arthur starts to repent for his past life, I liked the Arthur and Mary love story, the Usury story arch, and the last mission of the second epilogue but that's about it. I just finished MGSV and that game suffered tremendously because of the open world and fucked up development. In the time since I've made this shit post I've had a chance to play the game myself (no i wasn't retarded enough to buy it, borrowed from faggot "cheevo hunter" friend) and this is one of the most boring fucking games I've ever played in my life. Half the time you're just tapping X to go to the next cutscene. Constantly in a long sequence of events where you're just tapping x to go and then watching a movie and then tapping x to go to watch another movie. Every missions with enemies goes the same way, just a fucking horde of evil white dudes popping out of the bushes like a shit ass game of duck hunt with auto-aim turned up to 11. Fuck this game.
