It's a japanese game, so all of the characters should look like 80s anime, even Rick when he gets the mask off and before he puts it on. Watch the ending of splatterhouse 2. Rick and Jennifer look like fist of the north star characters. Combine that with clive barker/lovecraft inspired shit and you'd have a new splatterhouse

The plotline of Splatterhouse has aspects of Reanimator involved in it with Dr. West and the most dangerous creature was the odd spiritual creature holding Jen's spirit captive in part 2. While the visual design was body gore, the plot was of various lesser discussed lovecraft aspects.

Too acrobatic but closer to the mark. I can't see Jason Voorhees using witchtime and activating a Devil Trigger but a modern take on the Beat 'em up would be how to do a splatterhouse. Maybe something more along the lines of D&D: Shadow over Mystara with the 2.5D aesthetics of the MK 2011 reboot.
