The anime's biggest problem is that the plot is a retarded clusterfuck ruined by garbage mary sue characters and bullshit asspulls. Unless the LN's plot is completely different than the anime's plot, and it has an entirely different set of characters, I doubt it'd be much better. Mordred is one of the few good characters in the anime, but she gets nowhere near enough screentime. I'm not even a Mordredfag but the anime would have been significantly better if it focused on her instead. Or if someone bought Jeanne and Astolfo a few dragon dildos, that would massively improve the story too.

The anime had a higher focus on WEEABOO BATTLIN' than the novel did. As a result, only a small number of characters had sufficient narrative focus for effective arcs. Everyone who wasn't Caules, Gordes, Mordred, Achilles or Sisigou didn't get much development and only existed (in the anime) to play their parts and then die. This unfortunately includes the protagonist.

It's still a fun anime if you enjoy weeaboo fighting adventures and blatant abuse of "vwoom" sound effects, but it fits poorly into the rest of the fate franchise. The franchise is big on the idea of "unique yet ordinary" people overcoming profound adversity and suffering in order to achieve the impossible. Sieg still has some of this as he struggles to come to terms with his finite lifespan, the meaning of his existence and what mark he'll leave on the world but the anime only touches on it briefly in favour of him fighting a shitload of people.

Though I'll admit that >>15784891 is correct (if excessively scathing) in that it's not profoundly cerebral and it has at least one somewhat egregious asspull, but if weeaboo fighting action and sue-ish characters aren't your thing you probably shouldn't be watching a series about legendary dead people coming back to life and fighting over the holy grail.

Narita of course did this much better in SF with Ishtar. Last Encore was the worst adaption of any Type Moon anime. Anyone who uses the excuse "it's a different take on the lore" therefore is arguing in favor of the Deen adaption. Umu loses all her skills when the writer deems it necessary, they replaced ALL the best room conversations with constant bath scenes, and removed the entire buildup of the opponents when they should have had 4 or 5 episodes each but instead were rewritten sloppily and crammed into a tight space between Shaft styled monologues and Deado Feisuu-kun reminding us how the actual character we liked died in the intro to the series and he's an edgier, stupider clone of them, but made of ghosts and the opposite gender for some reason. That said, he's not really going to be much stronger than existing servants since Jeanne could already put out superior defenses and his offense is considerably lower than dedicated units. He seems quite impressive until you remember he's sitting at sub-10k attack meaning that without his full list of modifiers he'll hit for potato damage. He's mostly useful as a jack-of-all-trades, bringing both some offense and some defense for situations where you can't afford (or don't want) to bring a purely offensive servant.

I've tossed a few at the Ishtar and Amakusa banners, but I'm saving the rest for Merlin.

I collected 9 HNS, which is still 1 short of MLBing a second one. I also managed to finally beat Gawain by pairing up Robin and David after I used all of the xp cards from this event to get them to 60. I had to revive the team once with command seals, but it was worth it to get past that fight. This event was great as I now have more QP than I know what to do with and I managed to level up a ton of servants that I needed as well. I hit maintenance at box 30, but I still have around 1k stockings or so left use. I spread out the grinding, so I was able to relax for most of today too. Merlin is some weeks away, so I'm going to burn the rest of what I have on him and take in all of the salt afterwards.

I was reading earlier about people that went days without sleep to hit 150-200 boxes on two separate accounts. That's insane.

Quetz turns out like Ishtar, a lot more of a cunt before she gets Mastered. Same thing happened to Shuten and Ibaraki so it's well-established fact that the MC domesticates crazy bitches. Also the human sacrifice thing gets explained shortly after you beat her.

I'm barely at chapter 7, but Ishtar has been a non-stop cunt so far. Ana is more anti-social, but she's been turning around since we got to town. Jaguar Warrior is pretty jovial for someone that needs to be murdered for forcing sacrifices. Gorgon and Quetz don't seem too different from Ishtar in terms of personality, but Ishtar is such a dunce. Enkidu seems like she's on the rag.

I just finished it, myself. Don't have any problems with the story aside from some Deus Ex Machinas but the story fights were 90% mob battles with amped up HP just to draw it out. Merlin's healing in the final battles also pretty much made them a complete joke

This is one of those times I wish they had a casual mode where every enemy only has 1 HP so I don't have to slog through the battles just to get to the story.
