The first game and the second game are so fucking bizarre. Neither of them are particularly shit games, though they aren't good games either, but it feels like they are set in two different universes.

>first game

>linear, full-on horror with barely any respite

>mystery out the ass and the ending doesn't really explain shit

>monsters actually have some really fucked-up designs

>gun-play is shit but stealth is almost always a must

>genuinely scary at times

>second game

>"open-world" meme garbage

>fun shooting mechanics with stealth being basically pointless

>virtually non-existent mystery or horror, the plot is basically spelled out for you

>instead of one OK villain, get two shit villains with basic motivations

>defeat the bad guys and get happy ending, the end

How did it end up like this? There's barely any continuity between the two.

i only played the first one, didn't hate it, had a handful of things that I woulda liked to see expanded on but never played 2 cuz i heard it dropped the already fumbled ball

>How did it end up like this?

Not a difficult explanation, it was mostly different teams and different directors.

Second one is pretty good. May have need a little more content though.

The first one is pretty good when it's not trying to be a shooter. When it does that it's dog shit

Is that just a blatant ripoff of Twin Peaks in the second pic, or were they "clever" with some "easter egg"?

>instead of one OK villain, get two shit villains with basic motivations

Didn't you notice that all good guys are either non-whites or women? Whites are either villains or the emasculated drunkard MC.

But the second main villain is a black man, though I do see your point that out of all the people that you meet in the game, the only white guys are either dead or turn evil. The plot was a total crapshoot, the first one was Jap sensibility all the way through, but the garbage DLC for it with Kidman and this game are entirely westernized garbage.

That second picture

'fine. i'll play it.

>or were they "clever" with some "easter egg"?

No, it's by far the most shameless Twin Peaks reference I've ever seen in a game, including Deadly Premonition. Right at the start, too.

I just wanted Resident Evil 4.5. Why did they shit out this garbage?

>good guys are either white or asian

>the only two black characters in the game are an evil cult leader and a pussy who damns himself to limbo

What did they mean by this?

>fun shooting mechanics with stealth being basically pointless

You fucking wot? Stealth is so stupidly broken in the second game it's hilarious. You can beat nearly the entire game without shooting anything that's not a boss with stealth

1st one was OK I guess, it felt like a more tense, but in a way crappier, Resident Evil 4. I always had ammo saved because I got the aiming down rather quick and knew to put points into ammo upgrades. That kind of brings me to my next point; why the upgrades, especially when they are so extremely bland? An ammo upgrade was adding 2 extra bullets to your capacity a pop, felt rather underwhelming and pointless. Wouldn't it have been easier to just forego this complicated system in favor of just giving you the guns and handing out the ammo and guns sparingly and as the game progressed, but keep in the crafting? There are also a whole lot of forced gameplay segments, cutscenes and just taking control away from the player that really put me off from replaying it on higher difficulties. I think it was during the schoolbus chase EW1 really turned into RE4-5, since you suddenly now found an emplaced turret to shoot baddies from at one point. Game started out tense and horrific, then just turned into a brainless action game with no ammo. Buying DLC to understand what the fuck the story was even about was the cherry on top of this shitheap. Thanks, but no thanks. It was a Saw- themed shooter with bland gameplay, but not much else. I knew what I was getting myself into, but I honestly expected more.

What I genuinely dislike, even though it was justified by the plot, were the endless and jarring displacement jumps that dumped you from one setting to the next. At one point it stopped being scary and became highly annoying and predictable, turning the whole game into an ungovernable mess.

RE4 gave you time to pace yourself and explore after each fight, EW keeps the tension up constantly and it ends up being both exhausting and ruining the mood.

Yeah, that was my problem too. Jumping all over the place without rhyme or reason got old really fast, especially since nothing got explained, even in the ending. I did like the parts where you had to fight Super Sadako or whatever, and near the end where you had to fight 2 Safeheads. Those were the strengths they should have capitalized more on.

The old Silent Hill VS Resident Evil stuff still holds true. RE was always good at jumpscares and more visceral horror, whereas Silent Hill was better at the atmosphere and general mindfuckery. Evil Within felt like it was very earnestly trying to give itself some more meaning like SH did, but Mikami is a true blood RE man. His attempt at deeper horror started out well enough, but quickly got reigned in by the tried-and-true action survival-horror. They did break the mold, only it just wasn't enough.

Devs saw how successful The Last of Us was and went "WEU NEEDU THE RAST OF USU MONEYU" and copied it.

Remember, this is an industry first. You come second.
