Recommend me some games where you start with literally nothing and have to work your way up.

Games like Rimworld, The Guild 2, Raccetear, Dwarf Fortress, etc. "Games" like Anno and Cim City don't count because they lack difficulty, and are merely toys, not games

The only requisite is that the game must not end on FPS death like Rimworld, The Guild 2 and Dwarf Fortress, they only appear in the examples because they have the mechanics that I am looking for.

Bonus point for living worlds that react to you, like The Guild 2, a criteria that practically removes games like Elona, but i'd like to hear the recommendations anyways

ea71ce  No.15700941

Dota 2 counts kind of. You start from nothing at the start of each game and have to work your way up, overcoming your opponents in the end

Don't most games follow this progression path though OP?

I guess, since I was thinking of economically/industrially, but didn't spell it out, I guess that's a valid answer.

But not anymore, now it's strictly "economy" games, whatever that means

You're looking for games with extended hobo phases I would think. Catacylsm DDA comes to mind, where you go from not being able to properly start a fire or sew holes in your jacket to having plasma cannons mounted to your solar powered RV motorcycle while you slowly mutate yourself into an ubermensch.

Only other one I can think of is Factorio since I know there's a mode that starts you off with the bare essentials and has you build up giant industrial complex. 4x titles I think

Although it's pretty much what I am looking for, I have already played enough of it for a whole lifetime when it came out.

With 41 new games being released just today on steam. How come nothing new that is good and on this style ever appears.

Also, forgot to mention, Kenshi is probably the closest there will ever be to what I am searching for, but it's too bugged and also ends in FPS death

Any GSG game like Victoria 2 let's you start off as a weak country and with luck you can become a global power. This is more feasible in Crusader Kings 2, but feels less meaningful than in Victoria 2 or EU3 or even HOI for that matter.

Morrowind (either vanilla + mods or openMW, I personally prefer vanilla + mods).

You start as a released ex-convict who gets dumped in a land he's never been before, and your only friend contact is a crack-addicted FBI agent.

Any Elder Scrolls or Fallout game, of course.

More seriously, Mount & Blade. I would suggest grand strategy like CK2, but that does eventually result in framerate death if you play a run too long.

Kenshi. One of the choosable starts has you be a dirt-broke asshole who lost an arm and is stuck in the middle of a desert with bandits and giant bug monsters with no food or clothing. You have the strength and constitution of a toddler, the finesse of a senile old man, and the running speed of an asthmatic, duck-footed lardboy (compared to everyone else), but you can train yourself up to the point of swinging around a sword the size of your entire body at the speed of sound, wearing armor fit for a king, and equipped with a robotic arm that could benchpress another man one handed. And you can recruit other sad sacks of shit and build them up the same way. Also, it's moddable and comes with a creation kit.

You know when something is so close to perfect but flawed, and that makes you hate rather than love it? Kinda how a elf would only spit on a dwarf for living in caves, but would absolutely fucking kill the stupid elf neighbor for painting his tree house the wrong color? Kenshi is that.

Also, suffers from Pathfind death rather than FPS death.

Civilization series, especially Civ 4

e739e5  No.15701312

>>15701242

I've found it playable enough to spend hundreds of hours in it, and it actually has a base game with developed mechanics unlike most alphas that get shilled around. I think the most succinct way I can describe it is like a somewhat simpler Morrowind. People will either enjoy the stat based combat or be pissed that their opponent dodged/blocked the attack "even the blade's passed through him and it's too big to be blocked!"

>>15701251

I kind of get that feeling from other things, but not personally with Kenshi. I can see how you could get to that though, and at least you gave it a fair shake. Recent patches have been working on pathfinding AI, so at least the dev is aware there's issues.

Good taste incarnate, man.

Speaking of Xcom Files, best thing ain't just your agents, but the tech tree progression. It's surprisingly fun starting off pretty much begging the bureaucracy to accomplish basic things, yet in the end having your own R&D team and sending deathsquads to take out cult HQs. That's progression right there, and it feels good to have to work a little for your army.

NWN2

From a peasant in a swamp to a castle owning member of the elite of the kingdom defeater of ancient evils and interdimensional aliens, also the descendant of a cursed betrayer of the dead god of death that you can kill and breaker of said ancient curse.

Earth Defense Force, the fifth one especially that crank this trope up to eleven

>start the game as a new recruit in still civilian clothes and for a couple of missions

>follows the steps of Sergeant Ranger and his squad

>finally get your military EDF gear and get a little praise from your ranger companions. This is also where you can start freely recruiting NPC squads to follow you

>you're sent on risky missions and manage to accomplish them despite the odds, you also meet new recurrent squads such as the Spriggan Wing Divers, who act like a snob to you, and the Grim Reaper Fencers, who are melee warriors seeking glorious death in battle

>finally get rid of the Gigantic Walker problem and get hailed as a hero

>but aliens arent taking shit from anyone so they start sending heavy reinforcements such as the Cosmonauts, Deroys, new drone types, giant boulder insects, flying frogs, etc to plummet the EDF al around the world

>situation is taking a terrible turn

>HQ send you, Sergeant Ranger, the Spriggan and Grim Reapers to retrieve the Balgam that were left out in the base (no occupied by alien forces) you escaped in the beginning of the game. The elite teammates start to recognize your value and respect you by this point, and all of you are now designed as part of the Storm Team.

>as the situation becomes more and more dire, with seemingly no way to win against the infinite alien forces, you still manage to pull out. You now become the savior and all the characters get your back on the last battles

you start as a king.

Shit guys, I know I am an autistic fuck that can't remove the ideas from my head and pass to others.

I want to make a cozy shop somewhere in a game that is not 100% about making the fucking shop.

Like making a sculpture shop in Rimworld

Or selling swords in Kenshi

Alternatively, a game that is strictly about that, like The Guild 2 and Raccetear, but since this is the main point of the game, you soon reach the "can't lose" curve.

Anno games are out because you start at the "can't lose" curve

Also, there is no point if the game is something like Elona, where making or not making a shop is so shallow that you might as well don't do it

It's hard to put a finger on what exactly I am searching for. But mostly, I want to know about new games about doing these things, with tons of new games every single fucking day, it's impossible no new good ones are coming out

Of one city, out of possibly hundreds. But it made me realise that you want a game where you start as an underdog, but everybody else is established and the situation is asymmetrical, so that instead of having some free resources provided for you to grow, you have to compete from get go to grow.

Port Royale 2 sounds like it's up your alley anon, it's an economy-based pirate themed game where you play as a merchant in the carrabeians trying to make a name for yourself. You can't really play as a full on pirate but you can be a privateer doing jobs for different governments, play as a gambler, search for treasures and do missions for people. The game is a living world with it's own economy like The Guild although it's far simpler.
