How do you get started with emulation? Do you just download individual emulators or use something like mednafen or retroarch? What's the best approach?

08e503  No.15684273

it all depends on what you want. there are enough emulators for the most part now that if you want accuracy, you choose this, if you want resource-light emulators you choose that etc. it's too broad a question to answer really. as far as roms/games go i personally download the entire catalog for the system if that's plausible because I like archiving shit and have the hard drive space for it

tl;dr for whatever system you want do some research to find out what each different emulator does or does differently from one another, then either make a list of the games you want or just start torrenting entire catalogs. i'd start in the share threads here; it's where i got my entire 500gb PS1 collection and most of my N64 collection

Should you really be pushing another general when not only are you too inept to even talk about the topic. you cannot even provide a proper OP or links to anything useful.

You've would've been better of just making a thread asking about it or instead go here >>15676231

>How do you get started with emulation?

By playing emulating pokemon games on vgba. It was around 10 years.

>Do you just download individual emulators or use something like mednafen or retroarch?

Individual emulators are usually more refined than ones that support multiple consoles with some exceptions as Dolphin or mGBA.

>What's the best approach?

Test multiple emulators yourself and decide later what you want to use.

Fuck if I know. I remember I somehow stumbled on a GameBoy emulator ages ago and emulated Pokemon Red. Nowadays you just look shit up online

Is PS2 emulation good yet or still in the "get a better CPU" phase?

Pretty much everything up to the PS1/N64 era can be downloaded in their entirety, and with some digging, you can usually get a pretty sizable collection of JP-only games with translation patches on them, and all of this will probably take up less than a TB, emulators and all. More if you want to be really autistic and include stuff like boxart, instruct booklet scans, and so on.

Is gud. I mean, you will find some tricky games but there are fixes and hacks for most, and what few genuinely have serious problem you can play in software mode so the option is still there. Keep in min "emulation for X sucks" generally means "I can't run it in 4k at 120FPS" and shit like that is irrelevant to your average person looking to emulate a game they otherwise don't have access to.

The only things you needed to do was to write entire subject as /emug/ - Emulation general {insert anything not cancerous here} edition, link to wiki and mentioning any major updates to most famous emulators.

It would just take 30 minutes max.

>oy vey how dare you call me a leech!

Your kind is so tiresome to deal with. Even when you're being told how to get the information you want more efficiently you still start bitching and crying.

There's just no helping you and I sincerely hope nobody helps you as it is wasted on you.

The best way to start is to find a game you want to emulate and work backwards from there.

>What system is it on? Find emulators for that system.

>Do the emulators for that system have problems with that specific game? Someone will bitch about it if they do.

>Is the emulator you picked having trouble with the game anyway? Look up the specific problem and change settings switch emulators if you have to.

Eventually you get enough experience just by messing around with games you want to play.
