they're dead

Tried MapleStory2 for a bit. It was entertaining for about two days, fun combat and some interesting side stuff to do, then it stagnated to pure instanced raid repetition with daily/weekly limits on top. No amount of content or quality of gameplay can make that fun.

MMOs are just dead since they use a boring ass formula popularized by WoW.

MMO animes bait normalfags into thinking MMOs are fun since they tend to show games that use an older sandboxier formula of MMOs, a-la Ragnarok or Runescape, that you just do not see in modern games.

Never in an MMO anime you see 5000 chosen ones watching cutscenes from quest to quest until they reach max level until they can from small groups to enter a dungeon to kill the bad guy again and again, to get loot to enter the next dungeon and beat another bad guy again and again.

The "fun multiplayer experience" OP seeks cannot be found in MMOs anymore, all he can get from an MMO nowadays is repetitive and boring questgrind and teaming up with random strangers for quick instance or organizing with a faggot ass guild full of ERP and drama.

My biggest gripe is how useless the karma system is after 60, hell even 55 makes it useless because you can lose all the karma you want and spend a few minutes killing trash and you're instantly back to grey or blue.

Its less a repercussion and more of an inconvenience.

Guild Wars 2 is halfway to being good except that the writing is pozzed to high heaven.

Star Trek Online has a nice twist of being mainly space-naval which is fun, though ground combat is pretty shit. also as of the STD injection it's been bugged to hell

It's still alive, currently they are chasing after the "classic server" thing that WoW is doing with a new sub-only server that will just be the same as the regular ones, only initially capped at Shadows of Angmar content and level 50 max, with cap increases and more content unlocked every 4 months or so.

You won't enjoy an MMO unless you're playing with a bunch of people. I'd suggest trying to get a group of people here and playing the same thing but you should honestly never play games with someone from an imageboard, or join their guilds for that matter.

It's an awkward situation, but you'll need to look for places to accommodate you with people to play with. I'd suggest avoiding most Reddit guilds, they're almost as bad, if not worse than imageboard guilds.

He's right though. Back in the early 2ks the times were purer, you could meet friendly people and hang out in MMOs instead of just chasing the next gear with the higer number like a mindless slave.

I remember the times back in RO when people had hangout spots in various towns and they used them as a glorified chatroom. You could walk up to entire guilds and just sit and chat and it was comfy as fuck, or you could go where the rival guilds sat and lively shitpost about them not being able to hold a castle at the end of the last GW. There were no breaks, no censorship, no bans for "toxic behaviour" even on the forums you could flame people all day and the mods only stepped in when it got too messy.

Back then it was your guild versus the rest of the world and the cameraderie that came from that created very strong bonds within the guilds.

Man I miss those times.

The banter, the shitposts, the hunts for enemy guildmembers down in the castle dungeons and most of all, my guildmates.

I've been playing with those fags for 4 years and they helped me get through a ton of abuse in highschool. Every day I came back from school, got in Teamspeak and had people there for me willing to spend time chatting and hunting monsters, I felt I had a place I belonged to.

Sadly those times will never come back.

I used to play TERA with people from here, they were pretty cool dudes. Never really had an issue even when we were undergeared and wiped a lot when starting what was endgame content at the time. I used to play Tree of Savious with the 8ch guild as well and that too was a mostly positive experience (people-wise). Maybe I'm just accomodating, but I haven't met eccessively annoying fags from here.

Not even that one guy who sent me scat poetry on steam. I was legit impressed by that shit existing and had a good laugh about it.

>we try to intervene and get him to stop and beg him to come to school so he can graduate

>he agrees, but still keeps skipping school to play UO

>one day over his house friends and I put a plan together and distracted him long enough to put a keylogger on his PC

>get home and get his password for UO

>log him in and bankdrop everything

>gate him to wyvren isle and leave his naked char there for dead

>next day he comes to school heartbroken and depressed

>doesn't talk to anyone

>middle of lunch we were trying to cheer him up and he just got up and made a break for it out the fucking door

>turns out our plan backfired

>he spent even more time playing UO to regain everything he lost

>doesn't graduate

>he drops off the face of the earth

>doesn't respond to phone calls

>his mom says he's just been in his room and wants to be left alone

>all of us move on from UO to other games like AC, EQ, or DAoC

>at least two years pass since graduation

>he shows up to a mutual friend's birthday party looking like shit still wearing the same clothes he wore in high school

>hasn't seen sunlight in who knows how long

>ask him whats up

>"heh… you know… just playin some UO. man that game is fun"

>haven't spoke to him since

It's been almost 18 years since I last saw him. I bet he's still playing.

>Spiral Knights

I really wish this game never went to shit, it's setting and gameplay were the comfyist shit.

Sadly, it's a three rings game so it was made in the shittest language and has the worst netcode.

nuAion is pretty good. They made leveling easy so you're just PvPing all day or if you're so inclined, the dungeons.

That stuff isn't possible anymore.

Everything is streamlined, interactions aren't personal anymore. Nowadays any MMOs server is bloated with people. Nonstop flux of global chat spam, it's meaningless.

Places are separated into multiple channels, each place has no meaning. Map X can't ever be full of people, just hop into a different channel, Town Y can't be too crowded, just hop on to a different channel. You just don`t have to deal with people unless you want to, not that there`s meaningful interaction on the overworld, anyways.

Moving from point A to point B is basically free and instant, so by result the only map that is socially relevant is the main Town with all the functional NPCs.

Exploration/adventuring isn't important anymore. PvE is composed of basically mandatory questlines that offer no challenge, just do what you're told, talk to this guy, gather some items from those sandbag mobs that always spawn in the same place, do some instanced dungeon.

Instances, the bane of MMOs yet present in almost every one. You can only do it with a few people at a time, defeating the purpose of MMOs. It's always a predetermined gauntlet, sometimes with boring cutscenes that you will have to do over and over again to get shit.

Since they streamline everything, maps and places you go will not require any help and will be stomped by any solo player. The only times you`d need help would be instanced, so it`s common for most player interaction being randomly getting matched with strangers to clear an instance, not saying a word to each other, then disbanding after it`s done.

Hundreds of shitty mechanics that trap you in the game, daily prizes or limits, limited time bonuses, random ass drops and enchanting.

MMOs are just dead, someone has to reinvent it for it to be fun again, around the fact that too many people can access them now and that social interaction on the internet is now mainstream. It will most likely not be as lucrative as the current formula since it has been perfected by the jewish for a long time now, so no one tries it.

God this shit pisses me off to no end

>Join a relatively new MMO

>not too bad at first, having a decent amount of fun

>reading global chat for a bit

>"Why the hell does this game not have instances?"

>"This game should have some instanced dungeons"

>check forums

>threads up asking for more instanced content

>People not getting laughed out of the forums, but finding mild support

>know that it's only a matter of time before devs cave to retards

>thankfully get my last little bit of fun out and leave while things are still fine

I really don't get this shit. Why on God's green earth do you want to carve your multiplayer game into these regions that are impervious to other players entering, not because it's a some hidden area you managed to sneak, magic, or skill your way into, but because the code says only your character is visible in here? Was it really that enjoyable to sit there and have no other players to interact with? It's so fucking counter-intuitive to what an MMO should be.

If you never wanted to see another soul while you played a game that was at least as smart it might be a stretch, considering game journalists sometimes play games as well as you, you should have played a single player game. If interacting with another human being in any way, shape, or form was so frightening to you, why the hell did you go for an mmo? Did you think no one was going to talk in global chat? Did you think you were just going to solo everything and be central to a story? Did you think people weren't going to do something that you didn't intend, talk to you, or actually screw around with you while you were doing your own thing? Then I ask again

WHY DID YOU EVEN BOTHER PLAYING AN MMO

Mabinogi had a golden age where Nexon started to remove subscription and microtransactions in favor of more of a free experience… then they just started to cap features that were free from the get-go with microtransactions and also started to shit on the code, now even cut-scenes and character dialogues related to the story are memory leaks, let alone RP missions, shadow missions along with Tara and Tailltean, good thing MabiPro exist otherwise i'd had to quit Mabinogi forever.
