>Wah, my generic half-baked indie title is getting buried under a pile of generic half-baked indie titles - I can't compete against this!
They don't understand the market, and don't give two shits about understanding the market. What they really want is a "success" button where their game is showcased, and everyone else's is banned or relegated to the third page. Sorry cupcake, but that's life. You work hard, pour your passion into a project, sacrifice a good chuck of your life and health - and you're still going to fail miserably. Whether or not you even get noticed is down to either dumb luck, or having the right connections (which is why the industry is so incestuous). In the former, if you have a good game - you might make a profit on it.. and if you hit the lotto levels of luck, it may even be a success. In the latter case, you're still not guaranteed sales, but at least the quality of your game isn't really as much of a factor.
Fact is, most indie devs turn to shovelware because actual game development is untenable. They can kick out 10~20 asset flips in the the time and half the effort it takes you to make one title ~ and all it takes is for ONE of those to be bad enough that people start streaming it just to laugh at how bad it is, and you can get enough meme shekels to make the whole venture worth while.
This is the market you chose.

>You're not a game developer
Achshully I am and I can tell you that you're an inexperienced hipster idiot that much like everyone other indie out there thought that the games industry was a get rich quick scheme because Notch did it once. Notch was a freak occurrence.
The other issue is that the idiot developer put all his eggs in one basket, there's plenty of other places to do PR. But on top of that I don't think anyones interested in yet another silhouette puzzle platformer. Your game isn't unique and no one cares.

Won't deny even with that the art style from the images still makes it look like a Limbo knockoff. I wish these indie devs would understand that they need to look different and actually stand out from the rest of them to get noticed in the first place.
People can only handle so many "dark looking, 2D indie platformers" before they get tired of them.
