Because the whole point of the game was to care for the little shit you were given?

This is why your digimon even has needs and why he has them and you don't. He is supposed to feel like a living creature with it's own desires and needs.

It's also why Virus carries on beyond death, so you can't just forget about your mistakes. And even then, there's King Sukamon so why would you complain about it this much?

It's really fucking weird to go from playing Digimon World to Pokemon, which was basically my experience (with an emulator, of course). You are given 6 little fags at any time that don't matter since all they do is spam combat moves and you're rotating them around based on your own personal needs. I remenber there was a barber for pokemon in one city and it said it made them happy when I used it, but honestly I never noticed a difference.

To me, Pokemon always was this weird version of final fantasy where the main character isn't in the party during combat (try playing FF 2 and 3 while you're playing Pokemon to see what I mean) while World was actually about caring about a digital monster that could grow into a terryfingly powerfull creature if you knew your shit but you couldn't just sit on your laurels since he'd die and you'd have the whole journey of raising it again.

Shitting is just one aspect of it, Hunger, Sleep, the different training methods, death by old age, Happiness&Discipline, all of it played a part in making the game stand out and be different from the usual RPG you get all the time.

Its a petsim/RPG with a city building aspect to it.

Its pretty neat, but doesn't explain jackshit.

You have to train a piece of shit only 3 to 4 times a day, never get exhaustion or it counts as a caremistake, and caremistakes make your thing evolve into a shitmon.

It is insanely unforgiving and doesn't explain anything to you. That said, it has neat ideas and is a fun little ride. It is possible to beat it really quick if you don't fuck up or spend time needlessly grinding.

That said, the main meat of Digimon is the anime, which has two good seasons.

With the prime one being Tamers, where the writer of Serial Experiment Lain decided to have a field day and decided to mind-tentacle-rape a little girl.

>It is insanely unforgiving and doesn't explain anything to you. That said, it has neat ideas and is a fun little ride

It manages to use the idea of being flung into an alien world with a pet well because it doesn't give a lot to you other than hints at the beginning. It makes sure the player is committed to learning the game or they're fucked. That doesn't really excuse some of its more obtuse design decisions though, good luck to anyone trying to get all digimon (evolutions and recruits) without a guide.

Digimon World Next Order is the literal sequel to Digimon World. It has the same gameplay mechanics right down to shitting in the field if you're bad at games, but with the improvements you can make to the town, you can rough out the edges that World 1 had in some cases. >are there any actual good games?

Digimon world 1, 2, and 3 are good. Dawn and Dusk on DS are fun if limited. Currently we have two ongoing Series:

>Digimon story

>if you like turn based RPGs

and

>Digimon world

>if you like monster rasing sims and realtime battles

The current games for the Story side are Cyber sleuth and Cyber sleuth: Hacker's memories. HM has a lot of the problems of the first CS ironed out (piercing damage isn't the sole indicator of a digimon being useful or not, for one)

The most recent World game is Next 0rder which takes the base concept of rasing a digimon from egg up until death while trying to accomplish your goals, but gives you TWO digimon to do this with. Thankfully a lot of the headaches of DW1 were addressed, such as a bathroom being available two steps from the training area.

>>15673609

usually it's Numemon that people get stuck with and that can sadly even happen to a skilled player. However getting a Sukamon is by the player being such literal shit than they don't pay attention to when their digimon needs to shit or taking precautions beforehand.

You digivolve into it if you don't meet the requirements to evolve into anything else. Or if your digimon shitted too much without a toilet

Something most people don't realize is that Digimon World is a JRPG in the most classic sense. Like at the start of the game the first thing you MUST do before doing anything else is grind. You need to grind your digimon's stats until it digivolves into something good a few days later and then you can basically sweep all of the mobs in the first area. If you don't do this it'll just digivolve into a piece of shit and you need to start over.

It wasn't til I read a gamefaqs guide on the game that I actually left the first area and got to the more interesting areas after it. It's a really big flaw with the game that makes me unsurprised that it's not regarded as a classic. That and how the battle system is perceived as random when it starts that way because you don't have any unlocked moves for your digimon. Eventually the player gets the ability to give it commands and teach it unique moves it can do at will. It's a really good example of a slow burner game.

>Why was the shitting mechanic so unforgiving?

It actually isn't. There's a lot of toilets in the world. Shitting is also a potential strategy to get some of the higher level ones since they require your digimon hating the player character.

Later on in the game after you unlock the store the player also gets items like one that warps them immediately back to town, and one that acts as a portable toilet you can use wherever.

This is wrong, you need to train up to your mon's limit -1, so it never gets the tired thought, as that counts as a care-mistake.

What a good start looks like is that you train your monster until its a rookie, then you do the little bit of training you can and go out and beat the shit out of other mons and try and advance your town. Preferably both. Repeat when the day is over.

You can make progress both in the story and in your monsters development really fast that way and usually get some good shit.

I've beaten World 1 in 2 monster generations that way. (Original Agumon, and then its spawn finished up.)

>grind

For fuck sake's don't do this, especially when you're starting the game. You're gonna get a never ending amount of Numemons like that.

When your Tamer Level is quite low (TL affects the training amounts you get) your biggest increase in stats comes from digivolving a Rookie to a Champion. It can easily double most stats or go even further.

And in order to get Champions, you do not need a massive amount of stats. Literally just having 200 of 2 different stats is often enough.

Digimon actually differs from most JRPGs because Stats are only 1 condition for digivolution but there's plenty more. You do not need all conditions and late game you can ignore some of the Stat requirements as long as you fill a few others.

One of the conditions for instance, is the amount of techniques in a specific type that your Mon knows, something that's very important for the really good Digimon.

How do you get those techniques? Fighting against other mons.

Which is also good since most Digimons also have a minimum amount of fights as a condition (although some actually have 0 or a "lesser than" limit instead).

Add to this that training takes 1 hour but combat only takes 20 minutes. If it seems like you're not getting many points from combat, just triple their gains before you compare with training.

For the start of Digimon World, a rookie with a few hours of training is enough to do most content in the Forest nearby (except for Kunemon).

You should quickly get Palmon for better meat (and so you can get Vegiemon right on the first day 15) and then head directly to Koela Point at sunset. If you go around, the bridge will be fixed, you can talk to Koelamon to get your first shop and keep the bridge permanently fixed and also get Betamon from the nearby Mangroove area. That's 2 shopkeepers with no battles to get them and Giant Meats right on day 2-3. Centaurumon is easy enough to get as well afterwards for the clinic and once the Meramon situation starts, you can get the Restaurant.

That's 3 convenience stores in just a few days really cheap.

244cd7 (5)  No.15674100

>>15673857

Also this, check guides for the conditions for digivolution. Some of this shit you'll never figure out.

Just keep in mind that some guides may be missing a few Digimon. I've seen many stating that Phoenixmon is just a rumor but I had one.

Fortunnaly Digimon World Order puts this information on the game itself, but requires you to unlock it by raising your relationship with your mons, which is pretty cool.

The game fails to show plenty of info like tiredness, care mistake count, and evolution conditions (weight, stats, care mistake requirement, etc.), but discounting that shit it can be fun. As you populate the city you get better shit, like an item shop, better food, etc.

>>15670727

>It is insanely unforgiving

I would call it frustrating due to trial and error. At least it's kind enough to tell you when you've fucked up (sweatdrop bubble, ignoring hunger bubble, skipped sleep, sick, lost battle, shitting). Some ultimates allow up to 10 care mistakes, others require 15+. So if you fucked up just suck it up and reload. Also there's no RNG variation on tiredness; each training has its own tiredness value. Once you find out how much training your current digimon can withstand you won't fuck up anymore.

>>15672733

>DW2

The main problem with that game is the retarded level cap mechanics which force you to burn digimon (and then grind back up) to raise it. Digimon from trades or caught in the wild have few moves and shit stats, so you can't escape the grind. The SLOW battles make grinding all the more annoying.

The kicker is you have fuse specific digimon if you want to keep your current one, and evolutions are decided by digivolution points, but at least they had the decency to include grindable chips to adjust DP and increase stats.

at least it's not as bad as DW3 where you had to get all 8 partner digimon to lv 45+ for the post-game

How was it overall? I was curious, but a few minor things I saw in videos bugged me.

Translation was OK but stupid errors like line-breaks in the wrong places, bad dubbing, your partners evolve at such a break-neck pace its hard to get attached to them (not to mention makes it harder to do quests since rather than have a Champion/Ultimate for a good few hours, it dies and gets reborn so fast its more of a dice roll when you're ready for a boss).

If any of the above is wrong, let me know.

characters are a little bland, but hey thats digimon for you.

i think my savefile still has a couple missing Techniques. but overall i did everything, got maximum prosperity and defeated the evil mariachi who's the game superboss. except some of those colliseum battles that require a specific digimon type on a specific timeframe. even though the conditions to do those battles are much easier in NeO because you don't have to pre-register for the fight a month earlier, they are still a pain in the ass like they were in the original

Yeah this was stupid since it was so backwards. If anything the good part about the end of Tamers is that it gets much more serious and psychological. Instead, Frontier is much more lighthearted than even Adventure, with none of the character development. Adventure, 02, and Tamers were all about the character development of the humans and the Digimon were, with some exceptions, basically extensions of the humans. So okay, I get if you just remove the Digimon and have the kids transform, but then they don't actually make the kids interesting characters, so it's a moot point. Also, as a kid I didn't get removing the digimon and making the kids transform. it felt too different, combined with being the second reboot in a row, so it was practically entirely disconnected from everything I liked about the series. So I stopped watching.

>wait, so its impossible to make the virus meter go down without starting a new game?

That's not what he's saying at all. The virus stat rises until it's full, and then you get a sukamon. You can then take that sukamon to trash mountain where the king will revert your digimon with an empty virus gauge if you talk to him. If you can't/don't want that I'm pretty sure the next digimon cycle after that sukamon will have a clear virus gauge anyway.

623cc3 (3)  No.15681045

reverting from sukamon also resets the care mistake count. It also counts as digivolution so it extends lifespan (96h for perfect), but do note that care mistakes reduce lifespan by a few hours, so you won't get much out of intentionally filling the virus gauge.

Or you can abuse glitches in jijimon's house to prevent the sukamon evolution when the meter fills up (it still counts as care mistake though).

It don't work like that, boss.

The Virus Gauge is reset when you get a Sukamon, the punishment for getting it full.

Afterwards you have 2 options: either talk with King Sukamon to revert back to your previous mon or leave out the rest of the Sukamon's life.

The first option is good if you're attached to your mon, but otherwise you could just stick Sukamon doing Brain Training until you unlock all Poop techniques. Poop digimons can actually be somewhat half decent with the right techniques and some stats.

Note: I do not recall if a Sukamon gains Virus Gauge when he poops outside of a toilet.

If he does, when you revert or he dies, you'll keep that amount with you. But now that I think about it… What happens if a Sukamon gets a full Virus Gauge?

It's never worth using a numemon or sukamon; their stats get lowered when they evolve, and they gain less stats from training. So they're not worth it (unless you're aiming for monzaemon or etemon respectively, which require 0 care mistakes btw). also sukamon will clear your neglected digimons' previous shits off the map (by literally eating them off the ground).

Of course no sane person would aim for any of the 3 shitmons (everyone always forgets about Nanimon seeing how he's the hardest one to get).

Getting them is even a good way to lower your Tamer Level if I remenber correctly.

But if you're stuck with one, Brains training to death is a quick way to pass the time until he keels over and you might unlock all poop techniques that way. You don't have to move, feed or even sleep unless you want to skip time, but the care mistakes from ignoring him will shave off a few years of his lifetime, so there's that.

Failing this, you can actually make them not shit, ironically. They have cheap attacks, loads of them in area and they are fast to boot. You can literally spam shit all day erryday and be viable.

Also, after some research I found out that Sukamon's don't get Virus Gauge when they shit, so if you get one, it's clear and stays clear until you revert or he dies and morphs to a new digimon.

Wasn't next order a bit lacking compared to Digimon World?.

I managed to complete the story with my very first digimon which I don't recall ever training other than fighting random battles.

Recently I tried digimon world again to check the performance of ps1 games on my CFW vita. Agumon became a greymon when the basic meat farm and some mushrooms was all I had, BIG MISTAKE.

This is another layer of management that makes Digimon World great it's like not having the resources to raise a kid properly.

The recent Digimon story games are alright alright as well. On the higher difficulty it plays like an SMT game a bit.

It could do with some more balancing I'd say, penetrating moves are too strong in the story because even your basic rookie digimon has a million armor.

Make a clear distinction between digimons that are supposed to be tanky and let digimon with penetration moves be of value against those instead of penetration digimons being mandatory against almost everything.

The online is a bit strange as well in that you can decline playing vs someone you know has a chance of beating you.

One chinese guy also let the full 45min timer run out as soon as I did something he didn't like.

Looking forward to more digimon games, in the meanwhile I'll be slowly working my way through Tamers.

They already had the right idea with the pokewalker, just give the pokemon something to do other than find items or whatever for the base game.

I'm pretty sure this means Pokemon are canon Digimon. If only it were still 1999 so I could tell my friends on the schoolyard.

Sukamon actually eats shit. I watched my brother lament that after I got my kickass Virus Metal Greymon on the first go.

Don't worry, I lost them all once I got too old for it to be socially acceptable to bond over pokemon and digimon. Also it was 2003 and everyone hated Digimon by that point because Frontier was weird and the kids turned into Digimon.

Wait, aint tamagochis creator the same one that created the entire digimon franchise?

Wow, so digimon was always the first one.

I know. Just trying to downplay my "briefly had friends in 3rd grade" chad status.

Digimon are literally just Tamagotchis for boys. It's the same company, yes.
