Ey faggots.

Time for a Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead thread.

>what's your favorite build?

>what's your favorite Compact Bionic Module?

>what's your favorite Mutation?

>the wonders of basement living, or innawoods?

>why building a Killdozer is much better than building a base

>Skeletal Juggernauts can go fuck themselves

>first day strats?

Go ahead and call me a shill because this shit is open source and completely free, I just want to talk about the best ways to kill interdimensional beings.

86eb11  No.15623100

Call me a fag but I almost always play with the Classic Zombies mode. No crazy shit like skeleton behemoths, but it does make it harder to find CBMs (can't just butcher augmented zombies). I generally either make my base slightly out of town, or preferably, play a strong/slow/intelligent mechanic and base out of some public service area (forget what they're called) and only make trips into town to gather bits for my self-sufficient RV. Lots of traps and grenades, while steering clear of machines and big cities.

It strips a lot of the content out of the game playing just classic zombies, but I like it. I've tried default settings a few times, and generally just get smoked by some electroshock zombie in a mansion or something almost immediately. Or get thrown through a wall by a hulk while I'm wielding a rock, 2x4, or improvised crowbar.

My favorite start on classic zombies was starting as a science nerd kid in an elementary school, and stuffing as many books in my bag as I could manage while trying to escape the school, which was only successful maybe 80% of the time. Once I got out and hotwired a schoolbus (I think, something like that) and tried to drive away at high speeds, but the kid was a poor driver and jerked into a roadside minefield. It disabled the bus and the kid, and I tried to escape through the minefield away from the zombies when a pack of wolves descending upon me, tearing me apart in between getting blown up by mines. That game didn't last very long, but it was very FUN!!

I'm not sure what you mean since I've only been playing a couple months, are you referring to being at a diagonal angle and shit just straight up walking through your walls and tearing your face off? If so: no.

>>15623119

Do it faggot.

>>15623100

>>15623113

That's what I started playing on. I usually start innawoods until I gather enough supplies to try raiding towns. Knife spear is absolutely essential starting gear imho for dat reach attack.

Also I prove the rule of OP being a faggot since I savescum. Pretty sure I'm worse than you because of this.

In the older versions they nerfed vehicles and made them really fragile, they made them so fragile that even tanks used to break apart from hitting almost anything.

What is best version right now?

861c39  No.15623142

Oh god, I just checked that fatass SJW furry grenade's github and he's attempting to put in the CoC.

Thank God for forks. Can't believe the base game has fursuits, dildos, and every imaginable religious book (also with an option to disable them all) for a sense of equality and diversity. That's probably why that world got so fucked, every city, even every 4 house + gas station town was inhabited by every degenerate and a member of every religion you can think of.

You can drive through a building or two if you've got Heavy Frames and Military Plating, though I don't recommend it without a Ram. You can see from my screenshot that I've got a Ram on top of the extra plating I put in front of my converted Bus. Partybus knows how to Party

>>15623135

I dunno, I'm playing a version that's a bit over a week old because they added a memory mechanic so your character remembers where buildings and cars are without them being in line of sight which is pretty legit for crawling around underground.

>>15623142

>>15623144

That's what fire is for. I rarely burn down structures on purpose. But when I do, a furry lived there.

e1a744  No.15623156

Did a "fled the riots" start and came out with this. Plenty of easy thread, a hammer, source of water, and a cutting tool. Just need to get a cooking tool now and start scouring hardware stores and garages for metal saws and acetylene torches. I also need to make a backpack, so I'll have to go knock out a window or lure of a few zombies so I can beat them to death with my hammer. I have yet to decide what weapon I'll use for early self defense, but likely something wooden. I would like not to use a crude sword, but if I can't find another cutting weapon (what I took starting points in) I will.

87ece2  No.15623176

Last game I did wandering zombie hordes which was fairly difficult until I managed to scrap some supplies on some night runs and hide in a basement. Eventually I got the usual deathmobile and all the supplies I could need and quit after getting bored from raiding labs for cbms.

86eb11  No.15623177

>>15623156

Best early game weapon is the improvised crowbar. Take a rock and a pipe (rocks can be found anywhere and pipes can be found by bashing lockers and shit like that with the rock) then fabricate the crowbar. Does OK damage, but more importantly you can pry open windows and doors without making much noise, most of the time. If you have shitty strength and/or dexterity sometimes it doesn't work, or you'll break a window while trying to pry it open and make a lot of noise. But generally it's great for hitting the outskirts of town without drawing too much attention, and dealing with a Z or two now and then.

Building a campsite is cool, starting with a simple pine bough lean-to and going from there. My hangup is always trying to build a butcher rack which requires a nearby table, which I can never build. I usually end up dragging a table from a nearby town, but that takes forever and is annoying getting it through the bushes and brush in a forest.

Best way to train up combat stats in early game without getting killed?

e1a744  No.15623335

>>15623324

Approach single buildings and kill single normal zombies. Small critters are also useful. If you're using throwing, slings, archery, or statsthroughskills, then [f]iring at a wall might be worthwhile. I assume that still works.

4eee44  No.15623336

>>15623305

This disproves my "Outside isn't balanced" argument how?

>>15623324

Depends on the skill. You can whack small trees and throw rocks at walls. At least that's what I seem to remember.

86eb11  No.15623342

>>15623324

If you really want to skip the early game, go into the settings and change the allowed stat values for character creation. Be warned though, if you go overboard with this it will make the game very boring, very fast.

86eb11  No.15623374

File: 5883f29b98fc9f9⋯.jpg (93.84 KB, 340x435, 68:87, snake.jpg)

>>15623342

Alternatively, it can also make the early game overwhelming. Instead of having a handful of crafting recipes, or a fair bit more if you put points into fabrication/electronics/mechanics/tailoring/etc, you'll have a shitload of recipes you don't even know about that are difficult to sort through when you're trying to make something specific.

So if you use this method to make your starting character more powerful, I'd recommend putting the points into stats (strength, dexterity, intelligence, perception, etc) rather than putting them into skills. Sometimes I put the character creation in freeform (no point limits) and try to recreate myself as accurately as possible as a character, but generally I find this to be OP as I'm decently fit, intelligent, and dexterous, and have a lot of training with outdoor survival skills as well as other things relevant to the game/blogpost.

So try upping the stat limits a bit and playing with a random character, to learn how to play with different roles and capabilities.

Once a long term character died because I kept my weapon and ammo stash near my bed in case of emergency. I had a difficult week and had been smoking a lot of meth and doing other drugs to get by, and one night I was smoking a joint to relax enough for bed. But I had some withdrawal that gave me bad shakes, and I dropped the doobie which immediately ignited my armory, blowing apart my base and of course my character as well. A good way to die, I guess, in game. Very entertaining.

>& + / + [insert item here] = ?

Search function isn't entirely self explanatory but that's pretty much it.

Now if some one could tell me how to auto sort items into stacks that would be nice.

86eb11  No.15623420

>>15623407

It should stack items automatically, unless it's like lighter(100) and lighter(78). But there are autopickup settings and stuff like that in the settings, so you can set it to automatically pick up bullet casings or 0 weight/volume items like matchbooks.

4eee44  No.15623446

>>15623420

Huh I'll have to try that, thanks.

But I was actually talking about sorting items on the ground. I'll just look it up again.

86eb11  No.15623458

>>15623446

Oh, you mean like advanced item sorting, [/] I think? Use the numpad to select directions or your inventory. Great for sorting numerous items into nearby storage things like lockers, or transferring shit from multiple nearby sources into a cart/buggy or some shit that you're dragging.

4eee44  No.15623514

>>15623458

Nah; I've used that tons of times.

I watched a LP of C:DDA where the guy sorts stuff on the ground automatically outside of the 9 squares around you. He actually loses some shit after killing a Shocker Brute by getting stuck in an infinite sorting loop bug. I was mostly listening to it as background noise while I played so I wasn't paying attention when he talked about how to do it (I think).

>check out Cata for long time

>they added survivor camp system where you make base of your own with companions

I don't know when this feature came out but it's pretty neat thing to try out. On the current run with my other character:

>ransack labs for the mutagen and CBMs and other cool shit

>one lab has nearby anthill, probably has some holes in lab

>get down in first level, there's rubble everywhere, fan-fucking-tastic

>it's bitch to move around, and with soldier ants pissing me off, thank fuck its not those acid variants

>suddenly TEKE-LI-LI somewhere in lab, get concerned a bit

>try to find the route for next level

>soon there's more echoing in level, become worried even more

>it just keeps increasing

>find the containment area where the sound comes from

>there's zombie brute, surrounded with shoggots

>yes, there's many of them

>see the shoggoth's containment wall being broken

>attempt to cull them, but my nodachi, along great expertise both in melee and cutting weapons isn't cutting it

>try to contain it in two areas

>mfw there's no way to contain it, most of the metal doors are down and walls are busted in too many areas to do anything about it and they just keep breeding like rabbits

>run the fuck away and hope they don't come out

Most of my enemies, apart from ranged enemies with machine guns, are simply no match to me and I usually deal over 200 damage, but that time I felt terror. I guess it's time for me to get the big guns or just find the nearest downstairs, get my shit and fuck off and seal the lab.

4eee44  No.15626082

>>15625335

Whatever's in there can hardly be worth it anyway considering if there's one lab nearby then there's probably another. Or at least that's my experience.

86eb11  No.15630264

>>15623446

Oh, it's [Y] to define different zones for clothes, ammo, food, etc, and [O] to sort items in them/into them.
