I was thinking the other day about the worst announcements and conferences in which the games,products or the platforms ended up failing miserably. I would like to hear everyone's stories, thoughts and even if you can link them. This can be from any company Nintendo,Sega,Sony,Microsoft or even from obscure companies in the 80's and 90's.
For me i am going to go with the Nintendo Announcement for the WII-U which is more recent of a failure or one i remember fondly.

And it bombed hard, the sales were abysmal, the Nintendies were defending it up and down despite the results. Not even 2 years later did the PS4 and newest Xbox came out and WII-U was barely selling past it in the West.

What are you talking about? The PS3 beats it up quite easily. You had Uncharted, Assassins Creed, Call Of Duty and the rest before Western companies went even more into complete crap and micro-transactions, focused much more on how "diverse" and how much of a sellout it could be. Honestly the only thing that is holding this generation together is the Japanese, Indies and some smaller 3rd parties.

Its kind of ironic because it would be impossible at the time. The PS Vita did that well enough but they also too had problems(i will make a detailed post soon about it). Now we have the Switch that became what the WII-U should have been long ago and even now i find it difficult to kind of like it.

There was the infamous RIDGE RACER Sony conference about 10+ years ago, it took years for them to recover from that one and it basically caused them to basically give the generation away to Microsoft and Nintendo. I should also take a moment to remember the PS Vita as well. I genuinely believe it had far more promise and would have come close to becoming a viable handheld when Sony was getting ready to announce it

Fuck man if i was ever let down by the handheld that i wanted but clearly did not understand its audience was poor and not made of money they would have understood to not charge out the ass for memory cards and make it proprietary. I did end up getting it a year later and i did play Persona 4 Golden & Danganronpa on it. The two games that really did make it worth buying the system even years later with its failure. Even the PS TV sold better than the Vita and did help newcomers play PS Vita games easier.

It wasn't "bad", but it wasn't a good port either. By 1995, VF1 was two years old and people thought it could've looked arcade perfect on Saturn, just like how Ridge Racer was arcade perfect on PS1. But because AM2 had to rush it out, the port didn't run as smoothly as the Model 1 arcade original.

The design and idea for the Wii U Gamepad gimmick was for the (main) selling point of "off-TV" play, that's why it needed the large screen. As in play console games without the use of the TV screen which for isn't a bad idea for a household with a single TV which really only applies to Japanese household. Outside of Japan though, it was fucking stupid because everyone has at lease two TV's.
Then to top it off you couldn't technically even play every Wii U game with off-TV play unless it was designed for a single screen experience (NSMBU/Bayonetta/Smash) or had an optional map/inventory view (MK8, Resident Evil: Revelations). While games that used both screens simultaneously (Zombie U, Splatoon or any asymmetrical mutliplayer games) couldn't use it. It's an utter game design clusterfuck, unless you want to make a minigame collection that does all 3 methods of play.

Probably not going to end either, regardless of whether or not it still holds true (I'd say seventh gen going on as long as it did worked in the PS3's favor). Especially since NOGAEMS could also be applied to the PS4 (and depending on who you ask, the Vita). And while the PS2 certainly seems to be more fondly remembered, even it had something of a NOGAEMS period, albeit shorter and not costing $600.

Saturn's was the worst, easily. In relative terms, others have had worse performances, but they're big enough to absorb the losses and make a rebound. Sega's was so bad that it basically completely removed them from the largest western markets and tanked their entire company.

I replayed Black Ops recently just to see how it held up. It hasn't aged well. I couldn't finish the campaign because it felt like it was on-rails.
I have feeling most 7th gen cinematic games will age fast and be unreplayable years down the line.

Came to post about this. I was working in retail when the Wii U came out and I had to explain to dozens of people every single fucking day that it was a new console and not another plastic accessory. I actually enjoyed all the AssCreed games up until the one they made after the first one in Italy. I quite literally beat the game in 3 hours, checked progression saw I only had 25% completion. The other 75% is collectibles, I stopped buying AssCreed games after that.
